Taking Prevention to the NEXT Level
Drug Free Collier Monthly Newsletter - May 2016 Dear Coalition Partners, Please join us in welcoming Rey Pezeshkan, Founder, President and CEO of PK Studios, Inc. as the new President of Drug Free Collier's Board of Directors. "As one of the founding members of Drug Free Collier, Rey has had a significant role in the organization and has helped us advance our mission," said Melanie Black, Executive Director. "He is a strong advocate for giving back to the community and has provided critical support, resources and Rey Pezeshkan leadership to Drug Free Collier over the years." Pezeshkan replaces Dr. Frank Nappo who recently completed two terms as President of the Governance Board. "We've made a lot of progress since the organization was first established and I'm ready to take it to the next level," said Pezeshkan. As part of this larger plan, DFC recently moved into a new location where it will continue important initiatives that it began under Dr. Nappo's leadership and will also pursue new strategies to help protect the children in Collier County from substance abuse. Other members of the executive team include: Vice President David Dettloff, Senior Vice President at Moors & Cabot Inc.; Secretary Brian Goguen, Chief Operating Officer, Barron Collier Companies; and current Past President, Dr. Frank Nappo, President, Immokalee Housing & Family Services. "We are very fortunate to have such a strong team of local leaders who care about the health and wellbeing of our youth," said Black. Pezeshkan joins a small, but distinguished group of local leaders who have chaired the organization since its inception in 2005. Our Past Presidents include: The Honorable Lauren L, Brodie, Collier County Circuit Court Judge; Scott Salley, Retired Chief of Corrections, Collier County Sheriff's Office; and most recently Dr. Nappo. Drug Free Collier remains committed to helping our youth reach their full potential, free of substance abuse. We encourage you to please take a moment to review the valuable resources included in this month's newsletter to find out how YOU can get involved. Together, we can save & change lives! PLEASE TAKE THE CADCA SURVEY Prescription drug abuse and misuse is a growing problem for our communities. Fortunately, coalitions here in Florida are working every day to reverse this dangerous epidemic. As YOUR coalition, we are teaming up with law enforcement, parents, youth, high schools, business groups, faith communities, and other organizations to prevent prescription drug abuse from becoming a problem in our neighborhoods. We are at the forefront of this fight and we need your help. We invite you to take a few moments to complete a brief, anonymous questionnaire designed to learn more about attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors regarding the use, storage, and disposal of prescription pain medications. The findings from this survey will be used to identify community patterns in order to support coalitions across the country in developing effective messages. To participate in the 3-minute survey, please click-HERE by June 1st. Please address any survey specific questions to our national partners at Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (www.cadca.org) by sending an email to Robert Busch at [email protected]. Thank you for your time and efforts in making this a safer place for everyone. DRUG FREE COLLIER EXPANDS INTO NEW LOCATION...
