Classic Announces This Year’s Winners
Four Season Resort Punta Mita celebrates successful sixth annual culinary and golf
extravaganza welcoming more than 500 guests and Punta Mita residents

Located within Mexico’s most exclusive beach community along the shores of Riviera Nayarit, Four
Seasons Resort Punta Mita, in conjunction with The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, DINE (master developer
of Punta Mita), and the Riviera Nayarit Visitors and Convention Bureau, announces the successful
conclusion of the sixth edition of the American Express Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf Classic. As part of the
four-day extravaganza held January 28–31, 2016, 150 participants played in the Punta Mita Cup, a two-day
golf tournament held on Punta Mita’s two prestigious Jack Nicklaus signature courses, Punta Mita Bahia
and Punta Mita Pacifico.
Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita played host to exhilarating culinary events and dinners including the lively
Punta Mita Iron Chef competition, hosted by James Tahhan of Telemundo fame. The competition offered

a remarkable display of culinary mastery from Chef Carlos Gaytan, the first Mexican chef to be awarded
a Michelin star, and Edgar Nuñez, Sud 777 – one of the top 50 restaurants in Latin America. The spirited
competition continued as Mica Rousseau, renowned mixologist at Fifty Mils at Four Seasons Hotel Mexico
DF competed against the team at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita showcasing innovative cocktails and
colourful libations. Other featured events included Sweet Temptations by Paulina Abascal, Private Chef’s
Table, and the Pre-Hispanic Experience, a culinary session focusing on ancient cooking techniques and
ingredients.
“For the sixth year in a row, the Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf Classic unfolded as the premier culinary and golf
event in the Riviera Nayarit,” said John O’Sullivan, General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.

by working with our partners to bring together an impressive group of culinary and golf talent from around

The extravaganza kicked off on Thursday, January 28 with the Aeromexico & Delta Airlines Opening
Cocktail hosted at Sea Breeze Beach Club, where participant chefs, winemakers, sommeliers, tequila
masters, guest and craft brewers welcomed guests with culinary delights and elixirs. Participants were
delighted with an artisanal Mexican food market, 13 live gourmet stations, and music from renowned
French DJ Roman Rosati. The event was led by talented guest chefs Abraham Salum, Felipe Donnelly,
Andrew Ormsby, Diane DiMeo, Dean Fearing, Thierry Blouet, Alfredo Villanueva, Montse Estruch, Daniel
Ovadía, Maru Botana, and resort chefs José Meza Gabriel Kolofon and Erick Ramos. The cocktail
reception concluded with a Champagne ritual and fireworks.
On the mornings of Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30 the Punta Mita Cup was held on the two
stunning Jack Nicklaus courses, with live food and beverage stations throughout featuring the opportunity to
win a Porsche Boxter S PDK 016 when hitting a hole in one at the 17th hole of the beachfront Pacifico golf
course. The exciting two-day competition featured three categories of two-player teams – ladies, men’s
and mixed division. This year’s winners included: former soccer player and Fox Sports TV anchor Alberto
García Aspe and Pedro Solis in the men’s division, Margaret Osberg and Sherry Evershed in the women’s
category, and Hugo van Belle and famed culinary and lifestyle connoisseur Deby Beard in the mixed
set. Winners of the golf tournament also enjoyed other exciting prizes such as a two roundtrip international
flights for two, to any Delta destination worldwide.

This year, Golf Digest presented an exclusive golf clinic by professional golfer Craig Stadler, offering guests
the rare opportunity to meet the legendary pro golfer, who has won numerous tournaments at both the PGA
Tour and Champions Tour Level, and learn about some of his tips and techniques.
To conclude the memorable four-day event, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita hosted The Closing Dinner
under the stars at Las Cuevas Beach featuring a star lineup of top Mexican chefs and the culinary team
of Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, as well as interactive live cooking stations, tequila, mezcal, raicilla
and regional Mexican wines, followed by homage and gift presentation to guest Chefs Abraham Salum

and Richard Sandoval, recognising their longstanding involvement with the Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf
Classic since the inaugural event in 2011. Professional bartenders Sebastian Bisignano and Juan Pablo
Santiago illuminated the closing dinner with an impressive display of interactive mixology.

For the fourth consecutive year, the American Express Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf Classic supports Ayudar
Es Posible, the foundation of acclaimed former professional Mexican golfer Lorena Ochoa, which supports
underprivileged children through educational programs, sports, healthy living, and self-esteem seminars.
The auction, featuring exclusive experiences, luxury products, and overnight stays at St. Regis and Four
Seasons hotels and resorts worldwide, is still live online until February 15, 2016.
