4th Sunday of Easter

This weekend we have our second collection
for Sharelife. Our parish goal this year is
$90,000 and to date we have collected
$32,474.40. I encourage those who have not
yet given their donation to Sharelife to prayerful consider doing so. Ultimately it’s not about
the parish goal and reaching it or even exceeding the goal – no, it’s about helping our
brothers and sisters from the many agencies
that Sharelife supports.
This weekend we also continue to celebrate
the first time our young brothers and sisters
are to receive communion. This is a time of
joy and celebration for them, their family and
for us as a faith community. We congratulate
all the children who have and will receive their
first communion this year.
Finally, this weekend two buses will leave our
parking lot with parishioners who have signed
up for the second of our Holy Doors pilgrimage. We will be going to the parish of St. Theresa’s in Scarborough and then we will visit
St. Augustine’s Seminary, which is just next
door to St. Theresa’s. I encourage all parishioners to take advantage of this “Year of Mercy” and make a effort to visit one of the nine
doors of Mercy in the Archdiocese.

of Toronto on Saturday April 30th at
St. Michael’s Cathedral. After our
7:00 p.m. evening mass we will
have Exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament – there will be time for
personal prayer, recitation of the
rosary, concluding the evening with
Benediction. We invite you to come this Friday evening to pray for these two young men
and for vocations in general.
Retreat for Catholic Parents of People with Same Sex Attraction
In June 2011, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishop published a pastoral
document entitled Pastoral Ministry to Young People With Same-Sex Attraction. It
states:
Catholic parents testify that a welcoming, respectful and sensitive attitude by their parish
community is especially important when they are dealing with a child’s disclosure of
same-sex attraction. Offer your patient assistance to parents who are grappling with the
challenges of supporting a son or daughter who is coming to terms with same-sex attraction
and may experience isolation or reproving silence. Ostracism or the fear of being rejected
or even hated, frequently contributes to the despair that all too often is felt by these young
persons. We urge you to be attentive to their parents, reducing their isolation and worry by
