J.Rockett Audio Designs Tour Series Pedals
GTO The new GTO is the latest design coop with Guthrie Trapp. The original was sort of the
Nashville favorite, recreating the old Nobels ODR-1. A great sound in itself but Guthrie
wanted more…;-)
The new GTO has a much tighter bottom, less gain and more cut in the mix. It can go
from super mild to a really nice, dynamic OD feel. This pedal has compression but in a
great way. You can use it as a clean boost and EQ or you can bring in the dirt.
Level - Interactively controls the overall output. The more
gain, the louder it will become so you have to use the two in
conjunction.
Gain - Controls the gain level but also creates compression
and feel. It blends with the clean signal so you can really find
interesting sounds.
Accent - Controls the cut through the mix, the top end and the
bite.
Warmth - Controls the bottom end but is also very interactive
with the Accent control. You can really fatten up the mids but
use the accent to keep it from getting woofy.
Lenny Lenny was a happy accident. We set out to design a
recreation of the legendary Dumble Steel String Singer but
thought…who needs a loud, clean amp sound in a pedal?
The guy that made the Steel String Singer come alive was
none other than SRV. With that said, Lenny was born! It was
our intention to create a Steel String Singer being pushed to
create color, texture and feel versus just loud and clean.
Simply put, this is a very musical boost that colors your tone
considerably, in an inspiring way…kind of like a Neve console. There is a definite mid
character, but boy does it cut through a mix!
Boost - Tons of push, which creates an inter-play with the front end of any amp.
Tone - Dials in your highs, simply put.
The two controls are interactive and really need each other when slamming an amp.
Lenny also takes advantage of the new "Speed Switch" system.
Tranquilizer
The new Tranquilizer is a swirly machine. One of our favorite
effects of old was the original phase 45. We always thought it
was more musical than the 90 and less “in your face”. We
started out to make a recreation but then discovered features
we needed. The tranquilizer is capable of classic Phase 45
sounds, classic Univibe sounds, classic Leslie sounds and
classic Vibe only sounds. The key to everything morphing is
in the Focus control, which is an external biasing feature. One
of the things we never liked about the classic 45’s was that
you could not control the low-end whomp, but you can with the
Tranquilizer. Phase/Vibe - All the way left is 100% phase, all the way right
is 100% vibe and anything in-between is a blend of the two.
The 12:00 setting is exactly a perfect 50/50 blend so you can
lean toward more vibe or more phase, whichever you prefer.
Focus - There is a general area between 10:00 and 2:00 where you get the dramatic
differences but anything beyond that can be very subtle, to no effect at all, so please
experiment. You will find your Leslie tones, your Univibe tones and some other
craziness in between.
Speed - Controls the speed for both vibe and phase.
Fat - Controls the low-end whomp. If you have the bias set super subtle you can
increase the fat control to bring out the effect a bit more for a smoother turnaround.
.45 Caliber
The new .45 Caliber is a pedal we have been asked to create for some time now. It is a
recreation of the original 1962 JTM 45 sound, overdriven.
The sonic influence came directly from the old Malcolm
Young, brilliantly crunchy rhythm tones and the old Pete
Townsend Live at Leeds, “face-melting” goodness! To
achieve that sound seems like an easy task but this design
proved to be quite a challenge. After a year or so we feel
we have nailed it, not only in sound, but also in feel.
Controls are the typical level (loud), gain, bass and treble.
The .45 Caliber also takes advantage of the new "Speed
Switch” system.
Blue Note Tour Series
The new Blue Note Tour Series is exactly what you think…a
small, compact version of the current production Blue Note OD.
The Blue Note Tour Series is identical in sound to the original
Blue Note OD but does not offer the “Hot Switch” option.
The Blue Note Tour Series is designed for the touring musician
with a rugged, steel enclosure and the new “Speed Switch”
system. You can live in the jazz/blues world all day long with
the Blue Note Tour Series always engaged. It gives you that
subtle overdrive that can ride right on the edge of breakup,
depending on how hard you dig in. It is one of the warmest,
most musical overdrives on the market, with amazing touch
sensitivity and responsiveness. Controls are the same as the
original pedal.
The Hooligan The Hooligan is the Tour Series version of the WTF Fuzz
but with some tonal tweaks and made to be simple in every
way. We wanted this pedal to really inspire players, which
can be hard to do with a fuzz pedal. The Hooligan blooms
and feeds back, creating all sorts of textures. You can go
from a very smooth, Rat type overdrive to the famous Trombetta horn sounds. We feel
like we have dialed in the perfect warmth versus the typical, strident sound of a fuzz
pedal. The Hooligan is very musical and fun to play!
Level - Controls the overall output.
Gain - Controls the overall gain.
Gunk - Goes from smooth OD to a complete musical mess with all sorts of horn sounds
in between.

SOS Control - Subtly adjusts the amount of top end in your signal path to be balanced.
Archer and Archer ikon
The Archer and Archer ikon are both sort of a 2 in 1 pedal. They can be used as just a
clean boost by turning the gain all the way down. As you introduce gain it will attenuate
the clean signal, but there is a magic in-between that you will find. Please experiment!!
Gain- Turn to the trig to increase gain,
to the left to decrease gain.
Treble- Turn to the right to increase
treble, to the left to decrease treble.
Output- Turn to the right to increase
output, to the left to decrease output.
The Dude
The Dude is our take on the legendary Dumble Overdrive Special. The Dude can go
from clean boost to classic Dumble sounds to high gain. Please experiment with
settings and be careful with the output…The Dude is loud!
Level-The level control introduces clean boost and can be used independent of the
Ratio control.
Ratio- The Ratio control introduces the ratio of gain vs
boost. You can achieve the classic ODS sounds very
easily but it all depends on your guitar, pickups and amp
as to where the sweet spot is. Start blending in the gain
control and it will simultaneously reduce clean volume &
introduce gain. Somewhere in the middle is the sweet
spot or mix of the two, please experiment.
Treble- Turn to the right to increase output, to the left to
decrease output.
Deep- The Deep control varies the level of midrange
prominence. Turn to the left and it will be scooped in the
midrange with more emphasis on treble and bass. Turn
the Deep control to the right and it will introduce a thick,
low midrange. Once you achieve your desired tone on the
deep control, adjust the treble to taste for clarity.
Boing Spring Reverb
When we developed the BOING reverb we had the live club in
mind. The BOING is part of our new Tour Series line of pedals
which are created around simplicity in design and ease of use.
We wanted to recreate a reverb of the past which was
specifically designed to cut through the mix and give your tone
some atmosphere. The BOING is a simple, one knob recreation
of the classic Deluxe Reverb and, like many of the classic amps,
it is just a single knob for either more or less reverb.
We made the knob extra large so it can be easily manipulated by
one’s foot. There is a ton of headroom and the reverb can be
made to be extremely subtle for use in front of overdriven amps
without getting nasty. When coupled with a delay, like our Alien
Echo, you can achieve some pretty spectacular, spacey,
beautiful sounds.
Control Knob- Increases or decreases the amount of reverb.
J. Rockett Audio Designs pedals operate off of the standard BOSS type 9 volt adapter
or a single 9 volt battery. The power input is a 5.5 mm x 2.1 mm jack with the positive
voltage on the outer sleeve. Using an external power supply will automatically
disconnect the battery. Disconnect the input jack to preserve battery life when not in use
or when not used with an appropriate, external power supply.
