Welcome to the International Encounter of Capoeira and Culture, to be held at the cities of Recife and João Pessoa — Brazil! TRIP OVERVIEW NOV 12, 2013 n RECIFE, PERNAMBUCO The Grupo Axé Capoeira Brazil trip will start off in Recife. Not only is Recife significant in the roots andhistory of capoeira, our own grupo was founded there in 1982. This first weekof the trip will feature Capoeira workshops throughout the week. NOV 16 – 17, 2013 n PORTO DE GALINHAS The grupo will visit Porto de Galinhas, which is famous for its bright-water beaches andthe natural pools. NOV 22 – 24, 2013 n JOÃO PESSOA, PARAÍBA The grupo will travel to beautiful João Pessoa, the city where the sun rises first in South America, to participate in the international Capoeira competition, batizado andtroca de corda ceremony. Renownedmestres will be present at the event as judges of the competition andto share their experiences and knowledge with all of us. INTERNATIONAL SHOW and CD/DVD RELEASE EVENT The event will markthe launch of the Axé Capoeira Vol.8cdandthe 30-year anniversary DVD. There will several workshops throughout this legof the trip. Guest mestres andwell-known capoeiristas will be present for this huge celebration, which is expectedto be one of the biggest events in capoeira history. NOV 18 – 21, 2013 n RECIFE, PB The grupo will return to Recife to continue trainingandsightsee various locations includingOlinda, Ilha De Itamaraca, Casa Amarela, Boa Viagem. November 20th is the “Dia Da Consiencia Negra”, day of blackconscience. On this day we will visit the”Quilombos Dos Palmares” where the famous legends Ganga Zumba andZumbi livedanddiedfightingslavery in Brazil. NOV 25, 2013 n RECIFE, PB On November 26th, after returningto Recife, the students andteachers of Grupo Axé Capoeira will depart to their respective homelands with newly attained knowledge andskills. We will then begin to share our experiences andinsight with other capoeiristas andcommunities aroundthe world! In this way we all become ambassadors of capoeira, enablingit to grow aroundthe globe.
