Welcome to Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam,
Spam-a-lot. Yes, what a silly show, but what fun! We are pleased to
be the first community theater in the region to be given the license
to produce “Monty Python’s Spamalot” and we appreciate your

Our next show will be “Leaving Iowa,” a wonderful, poignant family comedy. The
show requires at least three men and three women, but has the flexibility of using
many more because there are several small characters who interact with the family
throughout the play and each could be portrayed by individual actors. I hope you will
consider auditioning. See the audition information on page 19 of this program. Remember
there is no experience necessary. Come and “get into the ACT.”

“Spamalot.” In 1975 (and between seasons 3 and 4 of their
successful British sketch comedy series), the troupe of actors
with no filmmaking experience put together a low budget film
based on the legend of King Arthur. What emerged was Monty
Python and the Holy Grail, a box office success on both sides
of the Atlantic. It was no wonder that audience members could
be found quoting lines and repeating the jokes from the film. In fact, some of the most
enduring gags in the film (coconuts used instead of horses) were the result of having

almost no budget. So, it was with great anticipation from the theater community when
Eric Idle approached director Mike Nichols with the idea of turning Monty Python
and the Holy Grail into a Broadway musical in 2004. The blend of British insanity and
Broadway savvy turned this idea into a Tony Award winning musical that would run
for three and a half years on Broadway. Now Aberdeen gets a chance to see what
all the laughter was about. So, Python fans be prepared to revisit this re-envisioned
adventure; and for the uninitiated, prepared to enter the imagination and wackiness

Aberdeen Community Theatre (ACT) is a not-for-profit community
theater serving the greater Aberdeen area. It is a member of
the Aberdeen Area Arts Council, South Dakotans for the Arts,
Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce, American Association of
Community Theatres.
BOX OFFICE ACT’s box office prior to a show’s opening is
Kathleen’s, 401 S. Main St. Typical hours are Monday through
Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in person
at Kathleen’s or by mail to ACT. The Capitol box office is also open
one hour prior to performances. Tickets can only be purchased
by credit card by calling (605) 725-2697 Monday through Friday,
9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
PERFORMANCES ACT maintains a firm policy of not canceling
any performance due to weather. We urge all ticket holders
to make every effort to attend. In the event that travel proves
impossible at performance time, ticket holders may inquire at
ACT’s office the next business day. ACT will make alternative
arrangements, excluding refund, when possible.
ACCESSIBILITY Wheelchair seating arrangements should be
made by informing ACT at time of ticket purchase.
Assistive listening devices The Capitol Theatre is
equipped with assistive listening devices. Ask an usher
for details or go to the Jane West Gallery to check one
out. You will need a driver’s license or credit card to leave
as a deposit. Devices must be returned immediately after
the show.

CHRIS ANDERSON (actor) Chris seems to be drawn to the stage in
ten year intervals, doing shows in the early 1980s, 90s and 2000 in
various communities. Now in 2012, he is “living a dream” by being a
part of “Monty Python’s Spamalot.” A long-time “Grail” fan, he and
his wife, Jennifer, have two sons, Jake, 16 and Brock, 6.
KATI BACHMAYER (actor) Kati lives in Aberdeen and works for
Senator Tim Johnson’s office. She has volunteered with ACT since
1997. Her first show was “Guys and Dolls” (1999), and she was seen
last summer onstage as Velma Kelly in “Chicago: The Musical.”
STEVE BALSARINI (actor) Steve teaches and tutors at NSU. He was
last seen on ACT’s stage as Mitch Albom in “Tuesdays with Morrie”
(2011). Other credits include Max Bialystock in ACT’s production of
“The Producers” (2009), “Eurydice” and “Fiddler on the Roof” at
NSU. For the Northern Fort Playhouse, he appeared in “Dames at
Sea” and “How the Other Half Loves.”
CURT CAMPBELL (actor) He’s had such an amazing time doing
shows with ACT ever since doing “Honk!” in 2005. He was last
seen on ACT’s stage in the original one-act festival show “Perfectly
Normal and Healthy” (2011). Monty Python has always been a huge
part of his life.
TRENT DEYO (actor) Trent is a long time ACT volunteer. He and
his wife, Stephanie, are the parents of Meghan and Carter. Trent
received awards at the state, regional and national levels in 2007
for his role as Bullfrog in “Honk!” He was last seen in “Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (2010) as Pharaoh and as Ed
Humde in “How to Talk Minnesotan: The Musical” (2009), another
ACT national festival show.
YVONNE FREESE (actor) This is Yvonne’s second appearance on
ACT’s stage. She made her debut in last summer’s “Chicago: The
Musical.” She currently attends NSU as a music education and
musical theatre major. She has participated in many NSU shows
including Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera”, Dido in ”Dido
and Aeneus” and Kitty in “The Drowsy Chaperone.” She also
participates in basketball and track and field where she recently
participated in the National Division II meet.

ALISON GOETZ (actor) This is Alison’s first show back at ACT in six
years. In the meantime, she finished graduate school, got married, and
spent some time living on the east coast and in the Twin Cities. Past
ACT shows include “Gypsy” (2003) and “Anything Goes” (2006).
MATTHEW HARMEL (actor) This is Matthew’s second show with
ACT after an 11 year absence from the ACT stage. He was last seen
as Amos Hart in “Chicago: The Musical.” Matthew and wife, Lori,
have two children, Gabriel and Jillian.
SETH M. HONERMAN (actor) Seth is a graduate of NSU where he
continues to study directing and musical theatre. He works as a
supervisor for UPS. Past credits include: “Chicago: The Musical,”
“The 39 Steps”(2011) and NSU’s “The Drowsy Chaperone,” “The
Liar” and “Eurydice.” He is married to fellow NSU student Sarah.
KURT DEAN KOHLMAN (actor) Kurt is a native of Huron where
acting bloomed from spending most of high school making short
films. Now in Aberdeen he works with many up and coming
directors, producers and actors. His dream is to see his son’s face
the first time his dad’s on the big screen.

DIANE LEITHEISER (actor) A native of Emery, SD, Diane has spent
the last nine years living in Aberdeen teaching and directing plays at
Simmons Middle School. She loves being onstage, singing, quilting
and spending time with family. She was also a part of “Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “Chicago: The Musical”
and hopes to be in many more shows.
SANESSA LINDEMANN (actor) After taking a three year break, and
being convinced to audition by a special kid in her life, Sanessa is
thrilled to be back on stage making her debut performance at ACT.
Her favorite role has been Crystal in CHS’s “Little Shop of Horrors.”
She is currently attending NSU.
EMILY MEIDINGER (actor) Daughter of Karen Tollefson and the late
Herb Tollefson, Emily is from Mount Vernon. She is a proud army wife
to husband Justin. This is her first show with ACT although she was
involved in her high school one act plays, oral interp and band. Emily
works at Menards.
KRIS MONROE (actor) This is Kris’ first time on the ACT stage.
He has performed with the community theaters in Pierre and
Spearfish. A 2010 graduate of Pierre High School, he is studying
vocal music education and musical theatre at NSU. Recent NSU roles
include Cliton in “The Liar” and dancer/ensemble in “The Phantom
of the Opera.”
KEVIN NILSON (actor) Kevin is originally from Webster. He is studying
history at NSU. He has been acting since he was a freshman in high
school and was last seen in NSU’s productions of “The Liar” and “The
Phantom of the Opera.” This is Kevin’s debut ACT performance.
SHANON PATEK (actor) This is Shanon’s second year performing
for ACT. Her debut performance was in “Chicago: The Musical” as
Roxie Hart. As an NSU musical theatre graduate she has been in
many NSU productions such as Janet in “The Rocky Horror Show”
and Clara in “The Light in the Piazza.”

COURTNEY ROTT, JR. (actor) Courtney is the proud father of six-yearold twins, Ava and Jackson. He is a sales consultant at Harr Motors.
He appeared professionally for two seasons at Minneapolis’ Guthrie
Theater and is excited to be in his 19th ACT production, starting with
“Oklahoma!” (1989) and including “Chicago: The Musical” (2011).
FREDerick SLOTA (actor) Making a comeback after 20 years, you
might remember him from such things as…well, you’ve never seen him
before. Starting as a dancing Rainbow Fish in second grade to
Marching Band, Choral Union and Choral at the University of
Delaware, from Carnegie Hall to touring Czechoslovakia and now
seen performing here in Aberdeen.
AUSTIN VETTER (actor) This is Austin’s second ACT production, his
first being “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”(2010).
He will be a junior at CHS. Austin plays the cello and participates in
show choir, school plays and performs with ACT’s Young People’s
Theatre.

BRENDA WEISHAAR (actor) An Aberdeen native, Brenda debuted
with ACT 24 years ago and has volunteered off and on ever since.
After a multiple-year on-stage hiatus, she has performed in ACT’s
last three musicals. She likes to walk and often contemplates reading
a good book, but watches too much TV instead.
JOSEPH WESELOH (actor) Joseph is a 20-year-old student at NSU
studying music education, both vocal and instrumental. He has been
performing for most of his life; his most recent achievements were
playing Firmin in NSU’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and taking first
place in the sophomore men’s division of the NATS competition.
DAVID WOMACK (actor) A thirty-year acting veteran, David made
his ACT debut in fall 2010 as Owen Musser in “The Foreigner.” He
can currently be seen in the film “Brown County Personalities” now
available for viewing at the Dacotah Prairie Museum. He is thrilled to
be in this production with his son, Jacob.

JACOB WOMACK (actor) The youngest member of the cast, 14 yearold Jacob loves acting and tries to get involved in plays whenever
possible. Unfortunately, he came into this show with no singing
experience. But he loves everything about being in this show and
hopes to get into film someday.
DANIEL YURGAITIS (director/choreographer) Now director of
theater at NSU, Daniel has directed theater companies across
the country. He also choreographed ACT’s “Honk!”, earning him
Outstanding Achievement-Choreography awards at state, regional
and national 2007 American Association of Community Theatre’s
festivals and international recognition in Japan in 2008. He was
selected as NSU’s Faculty of the Year at this year’s commencement.
Dan Fritz as Mrs. Jordon
Mary Marion (music director/pianist) Mary is a longtime ACT
volunteer. She recently retired from a 38-year teaching career. She
has kept busy as an accompanist for two vocal studios at NSU, as well
as being the rehearsal pianist for NSU’s production of “Phantom of
the Opera” and musical director/pianist for NSU’s spring production
of “Xanadu.” She is also director of music at St. Mark’s Episcopal
Church. Mary is married to Mark and they have two children: Patrick
and Jennie married to Rob with RJ.
BEN VILLA (assistant director/stage manager) Originally from
Rapid City, Ben is a senior at NSU who is double majoring in voice
and musical theater. He is also the father of a studly three-year old
boy named Dalen. In the future he plans on being a professional
stage manager.
BRIAN T. SCHULTZ (technical director/set and sound design) He resides
in Aberdeen with wife, Juli, and daughters, Erica and Natalie. Brian
is also ACT’s education coordinator and Storybook Land Theatre’s
director. No stranger to ACT’s stage, his last 10 roles were in “Greater
Tuna” (2010). Schultz received Best Supporting Actor at the American
Association of Community Theatre’s national festival for his role as
Russ Renner in ACT’s “How to Talk Minnesotan: The Musical.”

MARILYN DAVIS (costumer) She made her ACT main stagecostuming debut for “Anything Goes,” after costuming many Young
People’s Theatre shows. Since then Marilyn has costumed more
than 18 ACT shows. She received Best Costumes at the Region V
American Association of Community Theatre’s festival in 2009 for
her work for ACT’s “How to Talk Minnesotan: The Musical.”
Nella Thompson (costumer) Nella cannot remember a time when
she did not have some type of needle in her hand. Sewing, knitting,
crocheting and cross-stitch are just a few of her needle interests.
Nella costumed her first play in college and has helped with ACT
plays since 1996. She finds costuming so much more than merely
sewing. The thrill of locating the right color, texture and design in a
costume all working to augment casting the character into their role
adds to the enjoyment in her work behind the scenes at ACT.

HEIDI JENSON (props mistress) A Watertown
native, Heidi started with ACT in 2010 with
set construction for “Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat.” She received a
Bachelor of Arts in Technical Theatre and a
minor in Chinese Studies from the University
of North Dakota.
LARRY WILD (light designer) Larry was
technical director for ACT’s first “Annie Get
Your Gun” in 1980 and is Assistant Professor
Emeritus of Theater at NSU after a 32-year
career. He and wife Margaret have three
grown children and two grandchildren. All
his family has been involved with ACT many
times.
ALEX BARTLETT (sound board operator) He
is a 2012 graduate of CHS. While attending
CHS Alex served as the head light and sound
technician at the Thomas F. Kelly Theater.
He loves the theater and is always eager to
learn more. He will be attending Iowa Lakes
Community College in the fall majoring in
hotel/restaurant management.
MARGARET WILD (light board operator)
Margaret is a retired English as a second
language tutor. She and husband Larry have
three grown children. The entire family
has been involved with ACT for its entire
30-year history. She has appeared on ACT’s
stage many times including “Joseph and the
Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
EMILY GEFFRE (trumpet) Emily is 13 years old
and will be in eighth grade at Roncalli. This is
her first time as a member of the orchestra,
though she has been on the ACT main-stage
three times. She was first chair trumpet in
Middle School All-State Band and continues
to practice daily.
JOLENE GEFFRE (flute/piccolo/clarinet) The
mother of four, including Emily on trumpet,
Jolene and her husband, Fred, have been
married for 22 years. She works at Presentation
College and keeps busy playing music in the
community. She and her daughter, Emily, are
enjoying playing music together in church,
now in the theater and around Aberdeen for
various events.
JOSH KIMBALL (bass) Josh has lived in
Aberdeen for two years. He is the orchestra
teacher at both Aberdeen middle schools.
JUSTIN KONES (trombone) From Aberdeen,
Justin received a degree in music education
from NSU in 2007. In 2009, Justin earned
a degree in trombone performance from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He
has also performed in the pit for ACT’s
“My Fair Lady”(2000), “Grease”(2002) and
“Gypsy”(2003).
GINNY LEWIS (French horn) She has
performed in numerous theatrical productions
including “Funny Girl,” “Gypsy,” “The Mystery
of Edwin Drood” and most recently NSU’s
“The Phantom of the Opera.” She is associate
professor of German at NSU, but has many
years of experience playing trumpet and
French horn professionally.
MICHELLE MENNIS (alto saxophone/clarinet)
From Wahpeten, ND, Michelle is a junior at
NSU pursuing a degree in music education. She
is very active in all NSU bands, orchestra, sax
quartet and played in brass choir and percussion
ensemble. She performed in the pit for NSU’s
“The Phantom of the Opera” and with rock band
Kansas during the 2011-2012 school year. This is
her first performance with ACT.
TYSON MEYER (trumpet) Tyson is from Leola,
SD and a 2009 graduate from Leola High School.
He is studying musical theater at NSU and was
last seen as Danny in NSU’s production of
“Xanadu.” This is his first ACT show.
Jim Panerio (percussion) He has been
teaching music in Aberdeen since 1993. Jim
currently teaches band and general music
at Simmons Middle School and for 13 years
he taught percussion at NSU. He has a wife,
Debbie, and two sons, Alex and Colin. He has
been involved with the last three ACT summer
musicals including last summer’s “Chicago:
The Musical.”
JOHN PATZLAFF (clarinet/bass clarinet/
tenor saxophone) John will be a senior
music education major at NSU. He has
played for NSU’s productions of “The
Drowsy Chaperone” and “The Phantom of
the Opera,” as well as ACT’s production of
“Chicago: The Musical.” John also worked
with Danie Jensen in writing music for the
one-act musical “Providence.”
Melledy Rostad (keyboards) is the
librarian at C.C. Lee Elementary School.
She is also a church musician and assistant
director for Aberdeen Central Eagle Express
Show Choir. This is her fourth time in ACT’s
pit. She is proud to say Elias and Stephanie
Rostad are related to her.
Gretchen Sharp (French horn) Gretchen
lives and works with her husband and two
sons on their family dairy farm. She also
works as director of the Aberdeen Public
Schools Foundation and designs and
maintains websites for area businesses
and organizations. Sharp enjoys camping
with her family, reading and playing the
French Horn in her spare time. This is her
first ACT show.
LESLIE SWANSON (keyboards) A native
of Chamberlain, Leslie is a recent graduate
from NSU with a degree in accounting and
finance. She is very excited that “Monty
Python’s Spamalot” is her first production
with ACT. She’s been involved in several
NSU productions including “Miss Saigon,”
“The Phantom of the Opera,” “[title of
show]” and “Providence.”
TERESA WITTEMAN (violin) Teresa is a
2004 graduate from Mohall High School
in Mohall, ND. She studied music at NSU,
receiving a BA in music in 2010. She has
been working at Dacotah Bank for the last
year and a half but has recently accepted a
job as ACT’s office manager.

“LEAVING IOWA”

NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!
CAST NEEDED: 3 men and 3 women, but could be expanded to 26
actors to play all the characters Don encounters on his road trip, to
play ages 30s to 60s.
The spark behind Leaving Iowa comes from being children of parents
from the now dubbed “greatest generation.” The story is a toast
to their idealism and character and a little roast of their undying
dedication to the classic family road trip. More specifically, it is the
story of Don Browning, a middle aged writer, who returns home
and decides to finally take his father’s ashes to his childhood home,
as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma’s house is now a
grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper
resting place for his father. This father-and-son road trip shifts
smoothly from the present to Don’s memories of the annual, torturous
vacations of his childhood. Don’s existential journey leads him to
reconcile his past and present at the center of the United States.
“Leaving Iowa” is a postcard to anyone who has ever found himself or
herself diving alone on a road, revisiting memories of his or her youth.
Also needed a large number of volunteers to work
behind-the-scenes.
