Some households used their retirement savings or tried to sell their homes after a job loss. Others found themselves grateful for unemployment compensation even if it didn't pay all their bills. Some adult children found it necessary to move back in with their parents, while some families found help from a local food pantry or meal program-maybe one to which in better times they actually made donations. In Sunday's Gospel, the widow from Nain has lost her only son. In the time of Jesus, this was not only a personal loss filled with grief, but also a devastating economic event. There was no one on whom she could rely for support. With her husband gone and now her only son dead, the woman had nothing. She was in the very worst of straits. That is, until Jesus came along. Suddenly, the widow had renewed hope, as her son was raised up and restored to her. Her life could go on. The plight of our neighbors in need today is not so different from that of the widow of Nain. While we might want to have Jesus walk into town and give them their house or their job back, we know that isn't going to happen. But that doesn't mean that something can't happen. Indeed, something should! As the followers of Christ today, we are His presence in this world. When there are people suffering, we are the ones called upon to reach out and help. There might be one or the other among us who actually can offer someone a job, but most of us will help in other ways. It can be as simple as buying one extra item every time we go grocery shopping to donate to the local food pantry. We can all help! ©2013 Liturgical Publications Inc PARISH INFORMATION & EVENTS “COR REGIS” YOUTH GROUP Our next gathering will be on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, from 5:15 to 6:30 pm. “Skits and skittles” Please meet at 5:15 pm in the Chapel. Friday, June 10 at 6:30 pm Parishioners are invited to “Theology on Tap” at the Jan & Mary Frohlich home. Theology on Tap is an opportunity each month for adults to discuss the faith, the Church, and to meet others with similar interests. The purpose is to discuss ancient and current questions regarding the faith in a relaxing atmosphere of friends, food and yes…beer. Children are invited to come with their parents and play together while the older children help babysit. To attend, please RSVP to Jan & Mary at 391-3315 or [email protected]. We are deeply grateful for the regular adorers of Jesus, present in the Blessed Sacrament. The Eucharist is exposed on Wednesday from 9:00 am — 9:00 pm and on Thursday from 4:00 pm — 9:00 pm. Adoration is anytime during the week by opening the doors on the Monstrance to expose Jesus. We ask that this is done in a reverent manner and when the adorer leaves the chapel the doors must be closed if no one is present. During Wednesday and Thursday, because the Blessed Eucharist is exposed on the altar, an adorer must be present and the Body of Christ cannot be left alone. Fr. Schneider asks that on Wednesday and Thursday scheduled adoration times have two adorers. We have some hours on Wednesday available for you to sign up to be a regular scheduled adorer: Wednesday: 9:00—10:00 am 10:00—11:00 am 12:00 noon— 1:00 pm 4:00—5:00 pm Please call Margy Froelich at 663-0022 or Kim at Christ the King 663-6200 to sign up for your special hour to adore Jesus. 4 AREA ANNOUNCEMENTS CHI St. Alexius Health’s Living Grand Program will host an educational session entitled “Understanding Stroke” on Thursday, June 9.
