ELHI to have pilot project of ITM system
40 traffic junctions soon in PPP model

While all world class cities possess Intelligent
Traffic Systems (ITS) and their police have stateof-the-art video surveillance systems in place,
Keeping in pace Delhi Traffic police wants to start
a pilot project of Intelligent Traffic Management
System (ITMS) at 100 junctions in league with a
private Partner under Public Private Partnership
(PPP) model in Delhi.
“Earlier a similar project was started by Delhi
Traffic Police at 40 junctions but was scrapped
due to poor maintenance ,theft of expensive
equipment and camera’s. This time under the
PPP model the maintenance ,cost over runs and
other upkeep will be fully taken care of and will
keep updating the latest technology” said Mr Anil
shukla, DCP, Traffic, Delhi Police while speaking
at a seminar and exhibition on traffic Safety
“Intertraffic 2013” organized by the International
Road Federation (IRF) which concluded at
Greater Noida today.
“Getting encouraged from introduction eChallan system in Delhi and adoption of
technology by out policemen , we have planned
to lunch ITMS in PPP model in capital. This will
help in increasing our challans as there are
currently 10,000 traffic violations per day. Actual
violations are about 50,000 per day. With
adoption of new technology the challan revenue
generated is expected to go up to Rs 800 to Rs
1000 crore from the current Rs 50 crore per
annum.” Said Mr Shukla.
“This will also help in optimization of traffic
lights to about 99.9 per cent with very less fault
and the Police personal will be able to regulate
more traffic instead of enforcing it. Delhi Traffic
police has 6000 personal highest in the country
and most of the time by them is spent in enforcing
traffic laws rather than controlling traffic” said MR

“More than 300 traffic experts from across
the nation were taking part in the three day meet
and discussing ways and means to reduce fatal
accidents in the country. India has the highest
number of fatal accidents in the world about 1.42

occasion.
