There is hiking, white water rafting, spas/ baths, rafting, kayaking, restaurants and so much more. The pay for this job is $8.00 per hour. There are many positions you will be required to do for this job. You must be flexible and willing to do all of them when you are asked. No exceptions. [ Hello and Welcome to Magic Springs and CHI! There are many important points to remember and this will help you to keep track of all of the items that will need your attention upon your arrival. This list will include: Travel and Flight Information Employer Arrival instructions This letter Social Security Location information Housing Information (if you have found your own housing, the email containing your housing information) Sponsor and Emergency Contact Information Before Your Arrival You will need to make travel arrangements. You should arrive into the Clinton National Airport (LIT) website iswww.clintonairport.com if you are arriving into another airport and traveling by bus you will want to take the Greyhound bus http://www.greyhound.com to . Be prepared to take a taxi or shuttle from the airport or bus station to the housing. Once you make your travel arrangements, you will need to contact CHI with your flight and travel information. You can do so immediately by registering your information on www.sevis.org Remember you must have immediate access to a minimum of $1000 when you enter the United States. Employers to not pay you in advance or give advances on your salary and it will be 3-5 weeks before you receive your first full paycheck! Do not bring $1000 in cash with you, it is not safe. You want to have some cash, some traveler’s checks and/or a bank card that will work here that you can access the rest of your money with. If you do arrive with a large amount of cash, make sure to open a bank account within the first few days so that you may keep your money safe. Make your housing arrangements in advance. Housing is getting booked fast so please make your arrangements TODAY!! There is a list of 4 housing choices at the end of this document. It is very important that you make your arrangements before your arrival into the United States. You may want to contact the other students to arrange your housing together. This will reduce your housing expenses if you are splitting the cost. Upon Arrival in the United States When you enter the US, you will receive your I-94 stamp in your passport. You then must go online and print out your I-94 number and keep it in your passport at all times. You will need this number to validate in SEVIS and to apply for your social security card. This is an extremely important number so please put it in a safe place so that you know where it is at all times. Report any lost or damaged luggage before leaving the airport. You will need to give them the mailing address of your employer if you have lost your luggage. The address is printed on your job offer. Since you are responsible for your own housing you will be responsible for making all arrangements. Please make sure if you arrive late in the evening that you have a place to stay. There are many hotels near the airport where you can stay. Please make sure you know where you are going to be staying when you arrive. From the airport, you can take a taxi. Please remember that you will need to be prepared for these extra costs. Please do NOT go to the employer with your luggage, they do NOT assist with housing. Make sure to find the most affordable transportation to your housing. [ Call your family to let them know that you have arrived safely. Validate yourself in SEVIS www.sevis.org within 3 days of entering the U.S. Notify employer by phone after you arrive to Hot Springs, AR to verify your scheduled start date and time. 10 days after arrival: You will not be able to apply for your Social Security card for 10 days after you enter the U.S. providing you registered in SEVIS right after arriving. Make sure you put your employer's mailing address on the form. If you do not put your employer's address, your Social Security number may not reach you. Your employers mailing address is: Your employer's payroll department must also have confirmation that you have applied for your social security card within 10 to 17 days after registering in SEVIS. When you apply for your social security number, ask for a receipt, then keep this with you and provide a copy to your employer, which verifies you have applied for your number. When Filling Out Paperwork for your Employer Please remember to use your home address in your home country when filling out all tax paperwork (W-4 and I-9 forms) with your new employers. Also when you leave your employer, make sure to leave 1 or 2 self-addressed envelopes with your complete address back home on it, so that they may send you your last paycheck or tax papers. Practical Information Cell Phones: Some students may want to carry a cell phone. There are many phone options. Many cell phone companies require a contract and monthly payments. However, you may wish to purchase a phone without a contract, using pre-paid minutes. This is a practical, short-term solution and you do not pay monthly rates. Pre-paid phones are available at a variety of electronic retail outlets, including Walmart. In this agreement, you are able to purchase prepaid minutes and do not have to pay a monthly rate. You can ask an associate that works at the cell phone counter to help you out. They are very kind and will help you pick the best choice. Keep in mind that international calls from your own personal cell phone can [ be very expensive. If you do get a cell phone make sure to log into www.sevis.org and enter in what your cell phone number is. Other Wireless Technologies: Skype is also an inexpensive option for you to use to speak with your family. You can add some dollar credits to your account and call from your computer. The calls can be made internationally with your computer or phone. Without this information, we cannot prepare for your arrival. Most participants usually arrive into Clinton Airport in Little Rock. Make sure you are in direct contact with your employer so they can give you exact arrival instructions. Things to do after you arrive: 1) Log on www.sevis.org to register within three (3) days of arrival. Make sure you include your room number in the housing address. Also, if you change rooms, you must update on SEVIS right away (within ten (10) days). We, CHI and The US government, must always have your current housing address while you are in the US. 2) Wait ten (10) days to apply for your Social Security Number (If you go before, it will delay everything) 3) Monthly reports are to be completed every month. Make sure you do this. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in automatic cancellation of the participant’s J-1 program. 4) Many students buy a bicycle to get around. Make sure you buy a helmet, lock, reflectors, head light and a light colored shirt to be seen when riding. Please bring your employer a small gift, such as : keychain, postcard or chocolate. It will bring a smile to their faces and they will love hearing about your home country.
