April was a very busy month for
TBIC with two major events!
The first was our philanthropic
project on April 11th at Metropolitan Ministries. A very
special thank you to the members who signed up and volunteered. TBIC was well represented! Our second event was
Our annual picnic May 3 was a
great time, we kicked off the
month with a picnic at Cypress
Point Park in Tampa. There was lots
of great food and even better desserts!
We have two FREE events coming
up in June. I hope all of you will
join us for our Annual Meeting and
St Pete Art Walk. We also have the
Tampa Bay Storm game July 11th
and Comedy Club night August
6th. We were able to secure tickets for the December 6th Buccaneers game. Come and see the
Bucs play former Hawkeye and
Buccaneer Adrian Clayborn!
TBIC is looking for a person who
would be willing to store our trailer that you see at our events and
game watches. If you have garage
space or storage please contact
me.

Hawkeye Insider - Marissa Young
We would like to congratulate TBIC
member Marissa Young who is also
the newest member of the University of Iowa Spirit Squad! Look for
her on the sidelines this fall! Marissa is the daughter of Les and Nancy
Young.
Marissa currently lives in Tampa
and attended school at Braulio
Alonso High School and will soon be
attending the U of I where she
wants to study something involving
rehabilitative medicine.
Marissa has been cheering since
she was 6 years old, spending the
first six years of her cheering career with the Westchase Colts of
the Tampa Bay Youth football
League. The next seven years were
spent as an all-star cheerleader
at Tumble Tech Allstars and four
years at Alonso High School.
While she is excited to begin
cheering and attending the University of Iowa, (and experiencing
a new environment such as
SNOW) she loves the fact that she
is able to go to the beach whenever she wants here in Tampa.
Although cheer takes up most of
her time, she does love to
workout, read and hang with
friends! Football is her favorite
sport to watch, however, growing up watching all types of
sports she also loves basketball
and baseball. She was able to
attend a wrestling match during
her most recent visit to Iowa and
although she still has some
things to learn about wrestling,
she had so much fun experiencing the energy of the crowd!
Her favorite part of being a Hawkeye is experiencing the atmosphere no matter the event. You
can always find pride no matter
what.

For the month of April the UIAA and IOWA Clubs across the country participated in the inaugural community service project initiative. The Tampa Bay IOWA Club partnered with the
Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa and on April 11th sent out 30 members of the TBIC to assist
Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa with the Tampa Heights Junior Civic Association (THJrCA)
Center. The THJrCA is a community-based after school and summer program that provides
services to youth and their families in the City of Tampa. Services range from mentoring, tutoring, computer technology, health education, character building, workforce and financial literacy development. These services are created to help ensure every youth in Tampa Heights
has the opportunity to help them become strong leaders and good citizens. We had an incredible time and experience working with this organization and look forward to attending their
Grand Opening in the next few weeks! The Tampa Bay IOWA Club wants to thank each and
every one of you who participated and invite everyone to join us for the Grand Opening so
please stay tuned!
