Program Information: Age Requirements - A participant must be the indicated age by the start of the program. All age requirements are set to benefit the participant and make instruction more consistent for the program leader. In some instances, the requirements have been set for the participant’s safety. The Recreation Department provides discretionary funding for program scholarships. Interested individuals must register at least ONE WEEK prior to a program’s indicated deadline, must present any current income statement, and will be issued on a first come/first serve basis. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Recreation Department’s sports leagues are always looking for volunteer coaches! We’d love for you to help out! Help coach/co-coach in soccer, basketball and volleyball! Pre-School Art & Sports Pre-School Open Gym Moms, dads and caregivers … Looking for a place to let your kids expend some energy during these fall/winter months? Bring them to our free-play "open gym" to run, ride scooters, play with balls, socialize, and just have FUN! Held at the Rec Center. A great way for you to meet other adults and socialize too! Days Wed & Fri Teeny Boppers This semi-structured class introduces wee-ones through pre-school age (1.5 - under 3 years) to basic gymnastics, gross motor skills, and socialization activities in a fun, safe environment. Active circle-time songs, games, ball and parachute play are a few of the fun activities children will enjoy. The program is designed as a parent/tot class that requires direct participation with your child. Classes held in Rec Center Gym. Anyone interested in participating should contact his/her elementary school directly. Parents home-schooling their child(ren) should contact the CASD public school that their child would attend if he/she were attending a public school. Games held Saturdays at Memorial Park. K-3rd graders are invited to join us for three fun-filled days of basketball skill instruction. Designed to better prepare children for their participation in the winter leagues, the program introduces the fundamental skills, rules, and necessary terminology of the sport. Classes held in Rec Center Gym. Skateboarding Clinic 4th/5th Grade Basketball League Geared to novice skaters, 5-10 years of age, this clinic focuses on learning basic skills, improving existing abilities, and proper use of skate park obstacles. Classes held at the Memorial Park Skate Park. Requirements: skateboard, helmet, knee & elbow pads. Similar to the fall soccer league, the 4th/5th Grade Basketball League is also run in collaboration with the elementary school PTO/PTA Associations. Deadline: 9/15 4th grade, co-ed teams begin in January. 3 Youth & Teen Clinics & Leagues Boy’s and Girl’s Lacrosse Clinics 6th-9th Grade Fall Soccer League Boys and Girls, are invited to join the lacrosse action and learn the fundamentals of this fun, fast-paced sport! These clinics will separate boys and girls as the game is different for each gender, but both will involve stick skills, game fundamentals, and participation in small-sided game scenarios. The first 45-minutes of each session consist of skill building and learning through drill and lead-up activities, while the second half consists of small-sided games. Participants need a mouth guard and stick. Goggles for the girls and a limited number of sticks are available to borrow. Pads and other contact equipment is available for the boys. Both clinics held at CAMS South. This co-ed, recreational league provides teenagers an opportunity to participate in recreational soccer without having to travel out of town. Everyone plays! Games are held in 1 hr increments and participants should expect to play at least half of each game. Games held Saturday morning at Henninger Field. Deadline 9/15 Strictly Skills Basketball Clinic 6th-9th Grade Volleyball League Join Miles Smith, Wilson College’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach, and Miranda Payne, Shippensburg University’s Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, for 5-weeks of basketball instruction! Each 60-minute session will provide innovative and fundamental instruction of basketball skills, as well as time to practice the skills in 3 on 3 formats. The instructors will focus on player development through game specific repetitions and will teach how and why to develop specific basketball skills. Class size will be kept small to ensure individual attention and many repetitions. Held at the Rec Center. Calling all mothers and their sons to spend an evening playing indoor games such as kickball and dodgeball, eating catered, picnic-style food, and trying their luck at BINGO to win some great sports paraphernalia, coupons, and gift cards to area activities (bowling, rollerskating, etc). A great way to spend some mother-son quality time in an “all-in-good-fun,” competitive atmosphere! Held at the Rec Center. Youth in 1st-5th grades are invited to join us at the Recreation Department during their holiday break for a few hours of sports and games excitement! Individual or Team registration is accepted in the divisions listed below. Those registering as a team are required to wear their own team’s jersey or shirt. All teams will receive two, pre-season practices (one hour in length), and play six games. Games and practices will be held in similar time frames during the approximate time-frames listed below. 6th-8th grade and U13-U15 teams will also participate in post-season play-off games. The season incorporates skill instruction and games, and is held at the Winebrenner Seminary (formally Scotland School for Veteran’s Children). Baskets are lowered to 8' and teams play 4 v 4. Individual registration only. Participants receive four pre-season practices and play four games. (Game days incorporate a 15-minute practice each week.) You will receive a phone call indicating your 1st practice time. Did you know that hip hop originated in the south Bronx and is a culture that’s always evolving? Come be yourself at the Rec Center and learn to dance during this fun, upbeat class that will teach the fundamentals of rhythm, sense of direction & coordination, along with basic choreography. Intermediate levels will learn more complex teaching of rhythm, style and form. Calling all girls, grades 6-12, who love to run or would like to start running! Join certified NSCA Personal Trainer, Samantha Stratton for 6 weeks of fun, games, and running! This class encourages youth to become more physically active and helps establish a lifelong appreciation of health and fitness. By the end of 6 weeks, girls will be ready to tackle a 5k (3.1 mile) race! Girls will be encouraged to run Menno Haven’s 5k Fun Run/Walk for Memory Care on November 1st. She has been practicing meditation in her own life, in yoga training and in her clinical treatment groups. Running, jumping and jogging are not incorporated and most exercises are safe for anyone suffering with joint ailments. Class includes a warm-up, aerobic workout, and cool-down. Held in Rec Center Gym. Requirements: Bring a mat! *Participants may also stay for an additional 1/2 hour of weight work, which promotes building bone density and muscle strength. Season includes 1 practice, 6 games, and a post-season, single elimination tournament for the top 4 teams in the league. This league for adults age 16+, consists of 5 games and concludes with a post-season tournament for the top 4 teams in each bracket. Games held Sunday afternoons at Henninger Field. Team registration only. Dates 9/28 - 11/9 Day Sun Time 1P-? Dates 10/10 - 11/21 Cost/Team: $225, + $5 for each Non-Boro Res. Day Friday Time Begins at 6PM Cost/Team: $225 + $5 for each Non-Boro Res. Shopping, museums, theatrical performances… Whatever you choose to do, we’re sure you’ll enjoy your day! Depart from the Chambersburg Recreation Center at 6 AM. Plan to arrive back to Chambersburg at approximately 11 PM (departure from NYC at 7 PM). Please plan to bring your own snack/drinks for the bus ride, there will be no stops. Clarke, Jr. Community Center (A.K.A. the "Recreation Center") provides space for numerous indoor activities and includes small meeting rooms, two gymnasiums, and a large banquet room? Reserve a room for a business or club meeting, social gathering, birthday, wedding reception, or anniversary party. OR, reserve one of the gymnasiums for an athletic team practice, recreational games, or youth activity. Call 261-3275 for more information. A 15-minute grace period is provided for groups to vacate their space before being charged an additional fee. On-line: Credit Card Refund / Transfer Policies Programs We will offer refunds for any program, provided you contact us 7 days prior to the first class. (A $5.00 administrative fee will be retained by the Recreation Department for each refund issued.) After this time refunds will not be issued except for medical emergencies. Returned Checks Any check returned for insufficient funds will be assessed an additional $25. Register Early! Any program that doesn’t receive sufficient registration by it’s deadline may be canceled.
