Philosophy
OUR
PHILOSOPHY...
The Western Village has a unique
atmosphere
and
well-defined
character that give it a highly
unusual cachet.
The village is not just a complex
dreamed up by a marketing
department and financed by an
investment fund. It was nurtured
by individuals with complementary
skills, shared ideals, and a common
goal.
Throughout the history of the village
and its founders, with its twists and
turns of fate, joy, suffering, and
a determination to succeed, an
individual philosophy has evolved
that can only be described in
human rather than technical terms.
«Necessity is the mother of
invention» (Little Women). This was
definitely the case for us. Thanks to
much hard work and perseverance,
we were able to re-open in the
summer of 2000. (…)
Our original themed holiday
concept for a campsite is grounded
in people and history. (…)
This is the keystone of our
educational aims, enabling
people to learn about nature’s
«intelligence» and make the
most of their ability to become
self-sufficient, so long as they
assimilate and sustain accumulated
knowledge.
The concept, inspired by the saga
of the American West, highlights
multiple aspects of human
development and our relationship
to nature by offering original
accommodation and exotic decors
as well as recreational and cultural
activities, sports, etc.
Over time, after our fair share of
tears and laughter, the Western
Village has become an attractive
family tourism centre offering
wonderful vacations off the beaten
track.

All our rental accommodation is
set in small villages: One Horse
Town, La Petite Louisiane, La Jolie
Pennsylvanie, Pine Tree Village,
Prairie Band Reservation, etc., to
create a friendly atmosphere and
respect your privacy, with minimum
visibility by your neighbours.
Our mobile homes are modern and
comfortable.
A couple or family? Not to worry: the
varied layouts, from the Easton (one
bedroom) to the Lafayette (three
bedrooms, two bathrooms, two
toilets, and a mezzanine) ensure
that the accommodation will suit
your needs.
The setting among the trees and the
use of natural materials, such as bark
or stone, give the accommodation a
special charm.

YOUR SITE
The sites are spacious (100-120 m²), clearly
delimited, and either in the shade or not, as
you prefer… All you have to do is to pitch
your tent, or park your caravan or camper
van, then enjoy the tranquil environment and
all our services.
The choice of amenities is up to you: with or
without electricity, and even with water and
waste disposal if you wish.
During your stay, you will also appreciate
the unique décor of our new toilet facilities.
This focal point of our village, inspired by late
19th century schools in the northern US, has
a spire that rises proudly into the sky. This
toilet block is like no other...

In the saddle...
Our Westerlies riding centre is a firstclass establishment, with around
thirty ponies and horses (quarter
horses and Appaloosas) and welldeveloped infrastructures.

equestrian centre is affiliated
with the FFE (Fédération
Française d’Equitation)
as well as the AFEW
(Association Française
d’Equitation Western). It
is approved by the French

riding skills, we offer courses and
outings on horseback overseen by

Hourtin is a typical Médoc village, located
between Soulac and Lacanau, with a wellpreserved coastline, sandy beaches, and
ancient sand dunes.
You will also enjoy discovering the Lac de
Hourtin, the largest freshwater lake in France, as
well as its marina, traditional open air markets,
and “Ile aux Enfants” a wonderful children’s
playground. Hourtin offers a host of natural
leisure activities: sailing, surfing, kite-surfing,
fishing, hiking, riding in the forest, cycling,
mountain biking, etc.
Hourtin is only 50 minutes from Bordeaux and
just a few kilometres from the Médoc wine
country – one of the most prestigious in the
world – with its famous châteaux. And don’t
miss nearby Arcachon Bay and the Dune du
Pilat, Europe’s tallest.
