Longtime friends Joe
Guthrie and Keith Lynch
come together with extensive experience to bring the
Harbor Springs/Petoskey
area something they have
been waiting for. Guthrie,
who holds a BBA of Finance, a Real Estate License and a
CCM in Club Management, has managed private country clubs
throughout Michigan including Birchwood Farms Golf &
Country Club. Lynch, received his culinary degree from The
Florida Culinary Institute. After, he worked under nationally
known chef Richard Ruiz at the La Vieille Maison a mobil 5
star-5 diamond rated restaurant in Boca Raton. When Guthrie
and Lynch met, Lynch was an Executive Chef in a Harbor
Springs area restaurant. Lynch is also the Executive Chef,
partner and founder of the well-established Goodfellow’s
Restaurants on Mackinac Island.

Vernales Restaurant is taking on its’ second season since opening a little over a year ago and is located directly between Harbor
Springs and Petoskey along M-119. Its 7,500 square foot home
was brought back to life after sitting vacant for nearly 10 years; it
was once home to one of the area’s most remembered restaurants
(The Flying Dutchman). Within this wonderful space owners Joe
Guthrie and Keith Lynch were able to put in a multi-venue restaurant for locals and visitors to enjoy for years to come.
The Chop House is family-friendly and has a setting of
upscale casual. Signature dishes include prime and dry aged
steaks, Italian cuisine, fresh fish, seafood, dry aged burgers and
more. The Sports Bar, is a happening place with an array of topnotch specialty sandwiches, burgers, and pizza, but also hosts the
entire Chop House menu. You can kick back catch a game, and
enjoy it all. The Cellar is very cozy, and offers a “best of the
best” menu featuring many of the restaurants most popular items.
A diverse wine menu, wine bar, and temperature controlled wine
room finish off this wonderful space that has been created in the
center of the restaurant. All of the venues within Vernales serve
gracious portions so that whether you spend 9.99 or 39.99 on dinner, you will leave feeling very fulfilled.

Executive Chef, Partner Keith Lynch and his culinary team work
very hard to source only the best for those dining at Vernales.
Everything is made and created in house, and only the best
grade steaks, fresh fish, and seafood are served. Fresh pasta,
imported specialty products, and Michigan produce are others
items that top the list of key components in the food people are
raving about.
Outside of the kitchen the service staff is constantly noted
for their extremely upbeat positive approach. Our inside track
is that we strive to “treat everyone like a regular” with above and
beyond service and being very personable. These efforts are
noticed and mentioned on a regular basis, especially with those
who are new to the area or first timers at Vernales. This one-two
punch is what has started to set Vernales apart from the rest.
