[ Coachland
RV Park ]
[ Loch Leven
Lodge ]
Bob Gales, Owner
Garrett Brandenburger,
co-owner
Bob, how long have you been in business?
Coachland RV Park is a family-owned business that was acquired
from the Resolution Trust Corp. (RTC) in 1990 after the prior owner,
Brookside Savings & Loan, was taken over by the FDIC.
Who are your clientele at Coachland RV Park?
Coachland consists of the 131 space RV park and 100 space mobile
home park, and was originally built in the l 970's. RV spaces are
rented on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
We also have seasonal business for those workers here to help
with specific jobs during the various seasons. Then there are others
choosing to spend a few months in the Sierra who opt to rent an RV
site for a few months.
The mobile home section of the park offers Truckee residents
high-quality non-subsidized affordable housing. After acquiring the
Park we added 65 new mobile home sites and became a Fleetwood
dealer in an effort to provide new homes at attractive prices for
those who otherwise were priced out of the local housing market.
In what ways does Truckee’s location help with your business?
Our guests in the RV Park come from all over the world to enjoy the
beauty of the area. So it’s great for the tourists, as well as the full
time people and families. The mobile home residents are primarily
locals looking for a quiet, well managed community in close
proximity to the downtown area, the new Rec Center, the middle
school and churches.
We also have added a new two-acre ballfield in 1997, and a 2,500
square foot clubhouse built in 1999 for our residents' use.
Bob, what has been especially heart-warming for you since establishing
Coachland in Truckee?
I have found that it has been most gratifying to see families raise
their children from infants to high school graduates while living in the
Park. Many have celebrated birthdays, family reunions, graduations,
Quinceañera in the clubhouse and picnic areas with their friends and
other park residents.
Conversely, what has proved the most challenging for you?
One of the challenges in running the RV Park is the need to keep up
with the demands of the needs of the RV traveler. Technology
advances require that we stay up-to-date with wireless Internet,
digital television and 50 amp. service.
In what ways has the Chamber been a valuable resource for you?
We have found the Chamber to be most valuable in providing our
potential RV guests with information from wherever they are
through the Chamber’s website as well as their visitor center. It’s a
Garrett, the Loch Leven Lodge is quite an institution on Donner Lake. How
long have you been in business?
Loch Leven Lodge has been in the Brandenburger family since 1974,
when it was purchased by my parents, Steve and Ede Brandenburger.
In 2011, my parents decided they liked being guests more than owners,
and handed over the reins to their sons, David and me, Garrett.
Loch Leven Lodge is an all-seasons motel on Donner Lake. Guests
of the lodge enjoy lakefront views, a hot spa, 4,000 square foot
redwood deck and kitchenettes in most of the rooms.
Who are your clientele at Loch Leven?
Many of our guests have family and friends residing in Truckee, but we
also have guests from across the 50 states and international guests as
well. Our guests come to fish, hike, water ski, wakeboard, ski and
snowboard, and just plain relax in the refreshing Sierra mountain air.
In what ways does locating in Truckee particularly suit your needs?
Truckee has the perfect mix of grit and polish with immediate access
to world renowned skiing and other destinations. You can enjoy a five
star meal downtown, or just a quick taco on the west side.
Additionally, Donner Lake has quick access to Reno and
Sacramento.
What is your favorite season for business in Truckee?
Summer brings hot temperatures and relaxing days by the lake with a
slew of recreational activities. In fall, the lake is peaceful and beautiful
with exceptional fishing. Winter guests get a taste of the steep and
deep followed by a dip in the hot spa. Spring is a great time to
experience Truckee without the crowds, and enjoy fair weather skiing
or fishing.
Garrett, what has been the greatest challenge overall to your business?
Our greatest challenge is driving business in the slower fall and spring
seasons.
What has been most beneficial to your ability to conduct business in
Truckee?
The support of the local residents has been absolutely crucial in our
success. As I said, many of our guests are relatives or friends of local
residents. Of course we appreciate the referrals from the Chamber,
and the strong support of the business community.
With your many services, what are your business goals?
Providing customers with exceptional service day in and day out has
been, and will continue to be, our primary goal.
What tips or pointers for other small business owners in the region would
you offer?
It’s critical to treat each customer as if they were your only customer.
real partnership!
