puzzle is the date at pngfcjip.” Drawing lines on the map text area will result in this:
Final Answer
DECEMBER ’09.
Puzzle 1. Postcards
Each team receives 3 postcards. Each postcard will have 1, 2, or 3 holes in it. Each hole will be numbered on
the picture side of the postcard. Each postcard will also have hand writing on it and a stamp with a value
that goes with a numbered hole from another card. If the person with hole #3 finds the person with a 3
cent stamp, the postcards can be lined up to read a word through the hole. All of the words become a
question that the team must answer.
Puzzle 2. “Sign Up” (100 Points)
The player gets a 17 x 11 sheet of paper with the following picture:
They get the following instructions:
The letters are falling off the signs along the north side of the street in downtown Truckee. A letter will
always fall to the lowest square available following a downward path. I made the sketch from memory and
could only remember the biggest words on the signs so look there first.

Puzzle 4. Mileage (150 Points)
Players get a bus schedule sheet that looks like this:
They are expected to use the letter S and the bolded text “Train Station”, “Distances”, and “Wall Map”, to
figure out that the wall map at the train station is needed to solve the puzzle. In the train station, there is a
large wall map with a small mileage map on the lower left corner. If they fill in the total distance between
the cities for each line of the schedule, they can then translate the numbers to letters using the ASCII
conversion table. At least one letter will already be filled in for them.
Result
“Send Distance of Title Route to Mosey” is the message hidden in the bus schedule. The title route and
distances are Red Bluff 72 Williams 59 49 32 39 Merced 18 Chowchilla and the total is 269.
Text Response
Buy a postcard. Write "puzzle 4" and a message on it. Turn it in with answers.
Puzzle 5. Our Five Black Sheep (200 points)
The player gets a sheet of paper with the following information formatted so that the letters in the poem
are all lined up on a grid. Punctuation is squeezed in between the letters as well as possible without
upsetting the grid. The clue leads the player to darken the vowels to show braille. Here is the content of the
clue sheet:
The shepherd has a flock of 26 sheep. He tends to them all day and all night. He likes to write bad
poetry and when things are slow, he sends poems and secret messages to his blind wife. The text of
the poems doesn’t mean anything but there is something hidden in them somewhere. Maybe the 5
black sheep can help us find the message in the poems:
I T o o A m a z e M y V i c t o r i a.I A p o l o g i z e A

Braille Result
The vowels are braille dots. The braille is:
Translation

INSIDETRAINSTATION
And then…
On bulletin board in the train station is this message:
LOST!
Five Black Sheep
I’ve lost my five black sheep. You don’t need to bring them to me, just find the right
place on your map and let me know the address. X marks the spot.
R to S
J to L
T to V
Q to I
M to W
Send the street address number to “LOST”.
Do not remove this notice.
Result
Drawing lines between the letters on the street area of the map results in all lines crossing at the same
location over the circled letter K. This is “The Capitol” building. The address on the building is 10072.
Answer
10072
Text Message Response

Puzzle 9. Follow the Leader (100 Points)
Each clue will ask a question about information on a plaque or marker. The location of the historical
marker might be specified or there might be a clue about how to find it. Each answer is the number of the
next question to use. Only a small subset of questions are used to get to the final answer but the other
questions are also clues that lead the players in the wrong direction. They start on question number 1.
1. “To start your quest now, on your map is an E; it says that there is no longer rocking to see.
The plaque that you find will tell you the rest. Working with numbers is the idea that’s best.
Use the first digit of the chapter, it’s not very complex, then add the day of dedication and go there next.”

many a year. Each final-year digit is fairly clear. Add them all up and your final question is near.”
Stones garage plaque. Years on it are 1863, 1907, 1965, 1909, 1972, and 1981. Add the last digits to
get 27. It is a mistake to add last digit of the chapter number 3691!

make you a star. The plaque on the right is not too far and the day of May is the number that’s par.”
The plaque is the plaque on the right behind the train station. The day of Map is 9.
The answer is 9.
26. “You have finished the game, hurrah for you. But the final answer is not in the queue! Now don’t be stricken and
get all wide-eyed. Just pick a new number from the last plaque you spied. You will get the puzzle right with the
year that he died.”
The final answer, the year that he died, is 1863.
27. “Around the corner from where you are now, there is a large rock not shaped like a cow. The equation (some
math) is shown with some years. Add 80 to the answer and go that far from right here.”
The plaque is on the rock next to stones garage. It has the dates (equation) shown as 1867 – 1949.
The math comes out to -82. Add 80 and the answer is -2 or two questions before this one.
