his crazy-looking beast
is from last year’s
Commonwealth champion,
Mike Lowe, a member of the
Scotland team. He insists that
this is his number-one choice
for catching rainbows from
small waters. It looks the part
with its Okey Dokey origins, but
Mike prefers his with the colour
combination turned on its head.

Place the hook in the vice and have Continually wind the white floss up
both the flosses threaded through and down the shank, achieving the

When you’re happy with the shape,
tie off the yellow floss and reattach the white floss.

Attach the yellow floss and, again,
go up and down the body several
times, covering the white floss –
you’ll have a brighter body this way.

Create the head area with
controlled floss wraps, keeping
the correct profile as you go. Whip
finish and trim waste.
Give the fly a generous coat of
varnish, leave to dry and repeat
twice.
