Axcom Battery Technology is expanding: More
space for research, manufacturing and storage
The company, just having recently moved into their stateof-the-art European headquarters in Willich-Münchheide in
April 2014, is now expanding its capacities with the construction of a 1,300 m2 production and storage facility. Located in
the Carl-Friedrich-Benz-Straße, a true "power centre" is being
created for batteries, charging technology and communication accessories.
Axcom Managing Director Marzena Schwarz-Szymura is investing an amount in the single-figure million range in the
new building, which also contains areas for research and
development as well as various test labs for quality control.
New employees will also be hired in
sales, product management and purchasing for instance.
With the expansion strategy, the seasoned Managing Direc-
tor who boasts an extensive international background, also
takes the fact into account that battery technologies will
continue to penetrate even further markets. One such example is electromobility with its e-bikes and e-vehicles, which is
becoming an ever-more significant branch for batteries and
innovative charging technologies.
In Willich-Münchheide, Axcom is expanding its
production and storage capacities by another 1,300 m2.

The increasing complexity of battery technology
"A battery once used to be essentially made up of just individual cells. Today, batteries are becoming more and more
intelligent", says Marzena Schwarz-Szymura. Electronic circuitry with extensive programming make high-tech batteries
safer and more reliable for the user.
Since its establishment in 1983, Axcom has been developing
complex battery solutions for professional areas of application such as medical technology, industry, communication
devices, emergency systems, tools as well as energy storage
solutions for the generation of wind and solar energy.

Room for ideas
Axcom invests in the future. The site in Willich is a competence centre for mobile energy supply that is now being
further expanded. For instance, the technologies available
in the markets are to be integrated into serial production.
Besides the known Li-Ion batteries, this also involves future
technologies such as lithium-sulphur and lithium-air. With
the new development, production and storage hall, Axcom's
experts now have even more room for new ideas.
