TheCollective
Fourdifferentpeoplewithoneshareddream.Theartist'sdream...
OurrootswereplantedinnorthernEurope,wheretheseasitshigherthantheearth,anda
circusschoolisjustbeginningtofinditsfeet.Afterspendingoneyeartogetheratthe
AcademyforCircusandPerformanceArt(ACaPA)inTilburg,theNetherlands,bondswere
formedandourartisticvisionagreed.SwingingTrapeze,meetsTeeterboard&CyrWheel
andday-by-daythedesiretocombineourartisticideasgrewstronger,asdidthehungerto
realizetheseideasonstage.Soitwasdecided,theconceptofthecreationandofour
collectivebegantogrowandcouldnotwaitforschoolto
end.
Ourlaunchpad:aborrowedaerialstructure.Ourmodeof
transport:anoldPeugeot205.Ourguide:anarchaic
caravanandabible!Allofthisresultedintheideaof“Sens
DessusDessous”,meaning‘TopsyTurvey,’whichseemed
veryfittingatthetime!
Oneperson’sapprehensionisanother’ssourceofstrength.
Oneperson’ssensibilityunderlinestheother’senergy.The
collectiveevolvesinharmony.Thedifferencesbetweenthe
FlemishandFrenchculturesenrichestheartisticinspiration
ofthecompany.
TheCollectiveemergesin2009withtheprojectSens
DessusDessous.
TheperformancetoursinBeneluxtoapositivereception,
andtodaytheshowispushingitsbordersfurtherinto
Europe.
After2yearstogetherintheNetherlands,theTeeterboardDuoleavestheschoolto
continuetheirstudiesintheFrenchNationalSchool,CentreNationaldesArtsduCirque
(CNAC).Thoughtheirpathsbranchawayfromeachotherhere,thedesiretocollaborate
remains,andtheperformancecontinuestobeenrichedbythesedifferentexperiencesand
artisticencounters.

TheCreation:
SensDessusDessousisacollaborativeshowwhereeveryonewasallowed
tohavetheirsay,addtheirownflavour,theirowntouchofhumour.

InAugust2009,thefirstdraftoftheshowtookshapeinthegardenofthe
AcademyforCircusandPerformanceArt(ACaPA).
ThefirstpartofthecreationbeganinthetentoftheCircusSchoolin
BrusselsundertheexternaleyeofdirectorJanDaems,inFebruary2010.
Thenin2011,inGent,theperformancewasawardedtheAudiencePrize
andtheJuryPrizeattheFestivalMiraMiroinBelgium.

TheShow:
Theshowisagamecadencedbyentrancesandexits,fallsandstunts,appearancesand
disappearances,asinaclassicalFarce.
Then,enhancedbytheprofessionalprowessofthecircusdiscipline,itisallowedtogo
further,deeperandtranscendtosomethingfarmorepoignantthanthecommonfarce.
Thetoneoftheshowismadeupofafraternalrelationshipbetweenthecharactersofthe
group,ayounggirlwithasoutherntemperamentandthreeenergeticboys
Throughouttheshowweareconfrontedby‘MademoiselleFrançaise’,whoishesitantabout
whattowear.ShepresentsherversionofEveandtheforbiddenfruit.Herirritated
monologueleavestracesacrosstheshowwheretheapplesresonateasapunishment,but
alsoasagame.
Atouchofabsurditystrengthensthecontent:applesinthemouthbecomepigsbeingputin
anoven,MademoiselleFrançaiselaunchesintotheairtofindhertrapeze,aduodancesina
circleandagianthammercrashestotheground.
Anendasenergeticasaesthetic,theyregainthepleasureofbeingonstage,withno
pretense.Theyappearbeforeus,honest,simpleandalmostnaked.

humour,SensDessusDesousisashowthatnotonlyoffersanentertainingspectacleforall
agestolaughandbeamazedby,butalsoamorecreativeandvisualaestheticperformance
forthosewhoareseekingmoreartisticstimulation.Withalotofapplesmashing,people
flyingandcostumechanging,thisshowoffersalittlesomethingforeveryone.

Biography:
VincentBruyninckx,theyoungestof4brothers,wasborninMechelen,
Belgium.Hestartedcircus,alongsidehisbrotherSimon,intheyouthcircus
CircolitoofMechelen,whenhewas7.Hisperfectionistnatureensuresthathe
isalwaysfocusedonajobwelldone,blackhumoursuitshimwell.Heis
progressingontheCyrWheelwhilstjugglingadegreeinphysiotherapy,in
Antwerpen,andhispassionforcoffee,whereheisBelgium’schampion.
SimonBruyninckxisthe3rdofthe4brothers.AlsofromMechelen,the
FlemishpartofBelgium,hestartedcircusattheageof9andfellinlovewith
it.HisprofessionaltrainingbeganinACaPA,inTilburg,wherehemetArne.
TheywentontoformaTeeterboardduo,alsotraininginHand-to-Hand.
Together,theycontinuedtheirroadtotheCentreNationaldesArtsduCirque
(CNAC).Simonlikesachallenge,andheisambitious.Heistheinitiatorofthe
creationoftheCollective.
ArneSabbecomesfromTorhout,inBelgium.Abornacrobat,heneverwanted
towalkonhisfeetbutpreferredjumpingonhisknees.Arneisaballof
energy.Withthequalityofafelineheispassionateaboutmartialartsand
gymnastics,andafterdiscoveringtheKoreanTeeterboardattheageof18he
madeithisprofession.ArnemetSimoninACaPAandtogethertheybeganto
walkthesamepath.HeisalsotheinitiatoroftheCollective.
TheteeterboardduoSimonandArnejointhe24thpromotionofCNAC,inChâlons-enChampagne,France.Theyaretouringin2013withtheperformance“Pulsions”,directedby
LaurentLaffargue(CompagnieduSoleilBleu).
JulietteCorreawasborninPoitiers,France,toaFrenchmotherandan
Argentinianfather.Sinceaveryyoungage,shehasbeenintouchwith
dance,theater,taekwondoandbasketball.Then,suddenly,‘CLICK’!
Whenshewas14atthecircusschoolinNiort,Cirque-en-scène,shehad
arevelation,“Iwillbeacircusartist,”shepromisedherself.After
graduatingfromNiort,shetraveledtoToulousetotraininLeLidoand
LaGrainerie.ShethenundertookaprofessionaleducationinBalthazar,
Montpellier,in2007.FinallyshewasacceptedinACaPAtospecializein
SwingingTrapezeaspartofthe2ndpromotionoftheschool.Julietteis
creative,optimisticandbringsacrazyandbeautifulenergytothegroup.
