INVENTORY
JEWELRY
Hello Virginia and Maryland!
We found a new site in Virginia to replace
our McLean venue, and think it will be a good
location for us. It’s been a struggle to find a
new home after the Westpark closed, so we
are hoping this one can become our regular
go-to place for our Virginia shows. Look for
us at the conveniently located Arlington-Fairfax
Elks lodge on Rt. 50, just 1/2 mile off the Capitol
Beltway.
After a summer break from traveling, we’re getting back to work
and heading your way! While we may not have been on the road,
we’ve still been plenty busy buying from artists all summer and our
inventory has become quite extensive. We have jewelry by some of the
southwest’s top award winning Native American artists and there are
lots of great designs and vibrant colors from which to choose. We have
jewelry with red, orange, and purple spiny oyster shell as well as a vast
selection of jewelry with Larimar, lapis, coral, sugilite, charoite, gaspeite
and, of course, all the many shades of turquoise from deep green to sky
blue.
We picked up some great pieces at outstanding prices from artists
who come by our shop regularly, including works by Mary Tom, Alton
Bedonie, Bruce Hodgins, Nelson Begay, Kee Yazzie, and Jack Tom.
Mary Tom has been working on creating pieces that are exclusively her
design as well as continuing to make jewelry styles that she and Jack
designed together. She made two beautiful necklaces, one with red coral
and the other with lapis which incorporate a hammered silver technique
she taught herself after reading about that style of jewelry making. Nelson
Begay brought us some of his wonderful jewelry and we were able to get
a nice lapis choker, a very contemporary-style sterling silver necklace,
some all silver rings and a very special large barrel-bead sterling silver
necklace in a shorter length. If you like large beads, this one is not to
be missed! Alton Bedonie made us several gorgeous lapis necklaces,
a stunning multi-stone, multi color necklace (which we helped design)
as well as some colorful pendants with charoite, Larimar, lapis and red
and purple spiny oyster shell. He also made us more of his long, allsilver earrings, and created some fantastic large men’s rings showcasing
outstanding turquoise stones. We are expecting to have quite a few more
of his pieces by the time we leave for this show series in late August.
There are also new pieces from Myron Panteah, Carl and Irene
Clark, Jack Tom, Kee Yazzie, Alex Sanchez, Bruce Morgan, Sunshine
Reeves, Gloria Begay, Harlan Coonsis, Charlene Reano, Daniel
Coriz, William Vandever, Wilbert Manning, Delbert Gordon, Albert
Jake, Donovan and Darryl Cadman and many more.
We’ve fully re-stocked our inventory of earrings, rings, pendants,
bracelets, and colorful neckwear this series, many in new and exciting
styles. Also, we finally have more ear cuffs including the turquoise ones
from Jean Hattie.
On our buying trips we were fortunate enough to pick up some great
new (and much sought-after) pieces by multi-award winning Navajo artist
Vernon Haskie as well. These include a gorgeous and very large bolo
tie, two inlay coral bracelets, a turquoise bracelet and three rings. Other
not-to-be missed inlay works include two pin/pendants and a bracelet
from Ruddell and Nancy Laconsello with Avanyu (the water serpent) on
them which we acquired on one of our trips to Zuni. We also managed
to get a beautiful reversible needle point necklace by Harry Melikan.
Last show series we picked up some more great pieces from a
collection that had belonged to friends of my dad. They had great taste!
We finally got the collection cataloged and out for sale, and it includes
very collectible pieces form Leonard Haskie (Vernon’s dad), Betty
Yellowhorse and Louis McCabe, Lu Bedonie, Jake Livingston,
Mitchell Sockyma, Lambert Poseyesva and several other Hopi artists.
We now have the best selection of Hopi jewelry that we have had in at
least 10 years.
Be sure to come by and see what’s new in southwest jewelry and art!
See you at the show!

POTTERY
With summer here potters know that the most prestigious
show in Indian arts is right around the corner. Santa Fe
Indian Market brings a flurry of activity as artists get to
work creating masterpieces for this annual event. Travelers
come from around the globe to see the very best in Native
American arts, and Santa Fe doesn’t disappoint! Thanks
to this event and Gallup Ceremonial, we have acquired
new and old pieces by several award-winning artists as
well as talented artists who have yet to place in the highly
competitive markets. Also available will be some new
pieces from the Mata Ortiz area which are all hand crafted
and come in a variety of shapes and sizes, as well as a few
select Puebloan pieces.
As always we have a great selection of impressive pottery for your
home decorating, collecting or gift-giving. Whether you want a molded
or hand coiled piece, we have something that’s sure to please, and fit
your budget.
SCULPTURES & Kachinas
In addition to our great selection of Hopi carved kachinas, we will
have some new alabaster sculptures by Jemez artist Marvin Toya,
including a very nice eagle carving featuring a pueblo village, and a few
maidens and owls. As well, we will have a fun and varied selection of
Zuni fetish carvings, which make nice gifts. In the kachina area, when it
comes to kachinas the Hopi conduct a good number of dances in early
summer to help ensure good crops and family reunions. This means
kachina carvers were busy carving a large variety of this season’s
representations of kachina dancers. We should have more excellent
pieces added to our inventory (including new works by Raymond
Chee) by the time we head your way.

SANdPAINTINGS, RUGS & ART
Navajo Rugs
We picked up some spectacular rugs from the Teec Nos Pos, Ship
Rock and Farmington areas. We have another beautiful Teec Nos Pos
rug by Sara George, several great colorful Burnt Water weavings, a very
nice Chief pattern style weaving by multi award winning weaver Janice
Van Winkle and two very unique, small round Navajo rugs (something
we rarely have!). One is an exceptional 21” Klagetoh pattern we were
fortunate to get - Bill Malone was considering keeping it for his own
collection! Additionally, you’ll have a rare opportunity to add to your
collection a very fine Della Woody Yei Bi Chei tapestry weaving we
obtained recently from a close family friend. This tapestry has a weft
count between 100 and 120 depending on the color of the wool that
was used. It is a magnificent piece of work! As we go to press, I
anticipate picking up more rugs from Bill Malone in Gallup before we
head your way. In all, we will have a very nice selection of rugs and
hopefully some more Navajo pillow sets by Sally Arviso to go with the
one we already have.
On our buying trips to the Ship Rock area we obtained some
more of the sand painting boxes. We also have a nice selection of the
medium and smaller sand paintings, which make great accent pieces
as well as very nice gifts.
