MANDATE The vision of Benson Idahosa University ows from its divine mandate which was God's spoken words to its founder, Archbishop B.A Idahosa: to raise for Him Africa's rst Charismatic Christian University. It was to be a centre of excellence where leaders would be raised to take God's name to places of prominence in Nigeria, Africa, and the world. His vision was to raise up an army of Professionals and academics who would go in Christ name to the ends of the world with the re of the Holy Ghost to impart truth by precept and example . VISION STATEMENT Benson Idahosa University (BIU) aspires to be a model for Academic Excellence with Godliness. We are a university that will raise academics. professionals and entrepreneurs, who will be effective disciples for Christ by excelling in their professional elds. It will be distinguished by high performance in interdisciplinary research, addressing national and international problems, eliminating wrong behavioural patterns among students and becoming a storehouse of knowledge to be used for the bene ts of mankind on Christian ethical principles, designed to change the nation and the continent by changing one student's life at a time. MISSION STATEMENT BIU is a private Christian University providing state-of-the-art undergraduate and the professional education. We are committed to the mission of raising leaders for the nation, who are complete in spirit mind and body, thus contributing to the production of high level leadership and quality manpower for the nation and the world. Our key services are teaching, research, community development and character building. We perform these functions by judiciously utilizing current information and communication technology, networking with similar institutions worldwide, putting people rst in our operations and emphasizing Christian ethical values. The bene ciaries of the university's services are students, employers of labour, present and future generations, Nigeria and the global community. CORE PURPOSE Change Nigeria. OUTLOOK The traditional outlook is to look at the past and present to determine the future. The Master of Ceremony signals to the University Choir for the National Anthem and Benson Idahosa University Anthem. The congregation remains standing. OPENING PRAYER The Registrar rises, doffs his cap and requests the Vice-President, Professor J. A. Okhuoya to say the opening prayer. After the prayer, all congregation members and invitees take their seats. CONSTITUTION OF THE CONGREGATION The Registrar will rise, doff his cap and say as follows: May I respectfully, invite the Honourable Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Most Rev. Dr (Mrs.) M.E. Benson Idahosa, Archbishop Church of God Mission, Int. Inc. to declare the convocation open The Chancellor will rise and declare the Convocation open, saying: By the power vested in me, I hereby constitute this assembly as Convocation Ceremony of the Benson Idahosa University, Benin City for the purpose of conferment of diplomas, degrees and honorary degree, I declare the convocation open. Dr (Mrs) M.E. Benson Idahosa, Archbishop, Church of God Mission, Int. Inc. to deliver her address, Chancellor Ma. The Chancellor, accompanied by the Vice-Chancellor, proceeds to the rostrum where she presents her address. The Vice-Chancellor returns to his seat. At the end of the address, the Chancellor, accompanied by the Registrar, returns to her seat. The 2013 Benson Idahosa University Change Nigeria award goes to a personality who, by his activities, has contributed to the improvement of Nigeria in one or more ways. He is an embodiment of one or more parts of our mission and vision, that is, he is a leader in his eld and in the arena of his profession. We choose to highlight this individual because he serves as an example to our graduating students of what they can aspire to become. HON. KINGSLEY K.
