DYNASCAN Software and electronic solutions for inertial or braked dynamometers Systems for chassis and engine dynamometers Solutions for braked or inertial dynamometers Compatible with all technologies; automobile, motorcycle, kart… DYNASCAN_UKP_11_05 Multi-track technology; single or multi rollers compatibility Economic solution for renovation of existing test beds 1/6 15 YEARS OF DYNAMOMETER EXPERIENCE Rotronics has over fifteen years of experience in the design, development and manufacture of dynamometers. This experience, which includes associated measurement techniques has enabled Rotronics to develop a data acquisition and operating system compatible with all types of inertial or braked test beds : the DYNASCAN solution. A single concept, with multiple applications Dynascan is a universal inertial dynamometer operating system including operating software and a high performance digital data acquisition system. This product, compatible with all existing test facilities, is assigned for users of earlier generation test beds as well as for all those who wish to build their own test bed mechanics. Available in an engine test bed or chassis test bed version, inertial or braked dyno, Dynascan is an economic and modern solution that answers the needs of the most demanding engine specialist. Totally adjustable in accordance with the test bed’s characteristics, Dynascan is suitable for multiple applications : automobile, motorcycle, kart, Shell marathon, modelling.... 2/6 Fast and easy installation - For inertial test beds, the only mechanical work consists of installing the rotation speed sensor on the shaft of the flywheel, or of the inertial roller(s). Once installed, the data acquistion card is able to determine the speed and acceleration of rotating elements and transmit this information to the software. - For braked test beds, it is necessary to install and cable the load sensor on the brake, and the power supply of the Eddy current brake. During the initial software run, a configuration procedure invites the user to enter all mechanical characteristics of the test bed (inertia, diameters and number of rotating elements), eventually calibrating the brake torque measurement. Following this operation, which takes only few minutes, the information entered is automatically reloaded each time the software is used. User-friendly high performance software Developed to run in a WndowsTM environment (NT, 2000 or XP), the DYNASCAN software has been the subject of a thorough ergonomic study in order to get a user-friendly operating system. It has a powerful and intuitive user interface, and is very easy to use for all software operations. Acquired data is instantaneously processed and each measurement is displayed in real time. The user has continual access to all information necessary for optimum testing. The saved data is displayed in graphical or table format and can hence be compared with previous tests or exported to other software applications. 3/6 Dynascan Engine Solution for inertial or braked engine dynamometers Dynascan Inertia Engine is adapted to all types of inertial engine dynamometers. Measurements are made during the acceleration phase from a programmable minimal speed and until a maximum speed. Dynascan Braked Engine, is derived from our karting dynamometer. The software supplied with Dynascan Engine is compatible with all types of braked engine test beds. Measurement can be done during acceleration under controlled load, defined under road law completely programmable. Measurements can also be done according to speed level. Thanks to the semi-automatic integrated procedures, the test is run directly from the computer, with no intervention on the dyno. The power and torque curves are available as real or corrected, (according to atmospheric conditions). The user can superimpose up to 16 different curves on one graph, rename it, save the output, add commentaries, or print the results as a test report. Dynascan Chassis Solution for inertial or braked chassis dynamometers While similar to the engine version, Dynascan Chassis comprises equipment and complimentary test procedures that fulfill the specific requirements of a dynamometer having one or more rollers. Operation of the test bed is carried out from the vehicle driving seat using a remote control unit. This software version also enables complimentary plots such as the force at the wheel, acceleration or power as a function of linear speed, etc... Finally, simulation tools taking into account the mass, gear ratios and the vehicle aerodynamics, allow calculation of the real acceleration of the vehicle and optimisation of gear ratios. 4/6 USING THE MEASUREMENTS AND ANALYSING THE DATA The many graphs and tables proposed for each series of measurements allow easy diagnosis of faulty performance and detection of items requiring optimisation. Here we see curves of power and torque for a motor-cross engine installed in an inertial engine dynamometer. We can clearly see the improvements resulting from the tuning engineer’s modifications to the exhaust and air intake. This plot shows the change in the signal from a Lambda sensor located in the exhaust system of a single cylinder engine, we can see that the mixture is too lean at high revs, which results in a power loss and an increased risk of engine failure. All data sets can also be presented in tabular form, which facilitates reprogramming the engine management electronics. Here we can see an ignition defect in a four cylinder engine, the curve indicates a loss of power at 112 mph or approximately 7000 rpm. Thanks to the engine speed kit, an ignition anomally is identified and localised (transient problem in cylinder 3). Finally we see a simulation of aerodynamic resistance on a roller test bed equipped with Dynascan chassis. This function allows to stage the gear box in optimum way to harmonise the engine with its vehicle. 5/6 EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES Vehicle cooling unit : Available in several versions, according to the engine power being cooled. The cooling fan assures material safety (overheating) and helps at repeatability by giving stabilised temperatures. Exhaust gas system : The mobile system allows recover, and evacuation of vehicle exhaust gas. Environment Monitor Light SML101 : Environment monitor measuring temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure thanks to its 3 high precision sensors. It send automatically the datas to the software that determines corrections to apply to results. The Environment Monitor SME301 : The SME 301 has the same functions as the SML101, but also offers four type K thermocouple inputs, and four 0-10 Volt analogue inputs for complementary sensors. OBD vehicle interface : Allows engine data acquisition (engine speed, water temperature, air inlet pressure, etc) from the diagnostic OBD connector of the vehicle without mechanical intervention or complicated instrumentation. Engine speed kit : The engine speed kit comprises of a sensor designed to measure and transmit an engine’s ignition or injection frequency to the data acquisition card. Thanks to this sensor, the software automatically calculates the transmission ratio by synchronising engine speed and roller speed signals. The equipment is supplied with different measurement devices (induction clamp, piezo-electric sensor for diesel engines, ignition coil measurement circuit...) allowing its adaptation to most types of cars. Air/Fuel ratio measurement kit CMR101 : The CMR 101 kit allows wide-band sensor (UEGO) management, a digital display of the calculated values such as average richness, air/fuel ratio, air excess (lambda) or oxygen rate. This data is transmitted to the software and allows the air/fuel ratio or lambda curves to be drawn according to the engine speed. Gas analyser : Available in four or five gas versions (CO, CO2, O2, HC, optionally NOx), this analyser also calculates corrected CO content, Lambda and the stoichiometric ratio. It can, moreover, input engine speed and oil temperature data in order to adjust the fuel mixture under various regimes and engine loads. Computer and printer : Systems are compatible with most PCs (minimum Windows 2000 or XP, 2Ghz 256 Mb Ram, 1 free serial port for DynaScan inertial, 1 ethernet network port for DynaScan braked) but we offer computers adapted and optimised to the specific needs of Dynascan software. Workshop cabinet : Pratical, solid and attractive, it accomodates computer hardware and all the test bed accesories (engine speed kit, temperature probes, ear protector,...) Additional sensors : A wide range of sensors is offered to complete power and torque measurement, with other measurements useful for the engine development : temperature of fluids, exhaust, cylinder plug, pressure of blow-by, of turbo, Lambda sensor...
