3.1 Universitas Indonesia (UI)
Introduction
University of Indonesia (UI) situated in Jakarta was founded in 1849 and it is a
representation of education institution with a history of largest and oldest in Indonesia.
Today, predicate as the country’s best campus, UI is actively developing global
partnership with world prestigious universities namely Australian National University,
National University of Singapore, Kyoto University, Washington University, Melbourne
University and many more. Established and Proven in its medical science, UI still

3.2 Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)
Introduction
• Gadjah Mada University situated in Yogjakarta (Central Java), known to be one
of the best universities in Indonesia. This university has more than 20 years of
experience in handling foreign students from all over the world including American,
Dutch, Austrian, British, German, Swedish, Australian, Malaysian, Canadian and
many more.
• UGM, which has taken on a new status as a state-owned legal entity since December

Faculties
• The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in UGM initiated its international
programme in 2002, to create an opportunity for international and Indonesian
students to study medical science with an international standard curriculum.
• The Faculty of Dentistry in Gadjah Mada is developing an internationally recognized
academy and practical training in order to establish itself as a leading dental school
in the world. The faculty has modern facilities with 11 departments. It has established
good working relationship with reputable universities such as Tokushima, Niigata,
Leiden, Groningen and Melbourne Universities.
• The Faculty of Pharmacy in Gadjah Mada was established in 1946. It has developed
into a professional pharmaceutical school in Indonesia. The faculty consists of four
departments - Pharmaceutical Biology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology
and Clinical Pharmacy.
Course Details
The medical faculty offers 5 ½ -year English program and has fully incorporated
Problem Based Learning (PBL) in its teaching of medicine in order to be on par with
international teaching standards.

3.3 Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD)
Introduction
At the initiative of prominent society members of the West Java on 11 September
1957, Universitas Padjadjaran was established through the Government Regulation on
24th September 1957.
When Universitas Padjadjaran was established, it had only 4 faculties, and now it has
developed into one of the leading higher educational institutions in Indonesia and has
11 Undergraduate Programs, Specialist Programs, 17 Master’s Degree Programs, 10
Doctorate Programs, 9 Extension Programs, and 15 Diploma Programs.
Universitas Padjadjaran has formed close working relationships with some reputable
universities of Australia, USA, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Russian and others.
Faculties
• The faculty of Medicine in UNPAD was established in 1957 and it has been considered
as one of the top medical schools in Indonesia. There are 17 departments in this
faculty, Besides degree in medicine this faculty is also offering degree in nursing.
• The faculty of Dentistry in UNPAD was established in 1959. There are six departments
in this faculty. Since the day of its inception more than 3000 professionals have
graduated from this faculty.

3.4 Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU)

Introduction
Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), which is located in Medan, was officially established
in 1957. However, the Faculty of Medicine started its operation in 1952. Currently there
are 11 faculties in this university offering more than 100 programmes at various levels.
USU's degrees in medicine and dentistry are recognised by relevant authorities in
Malaysia. The Faculty of Medicine in USU is considered as one of the well equipped
medical faculty in Indonesia with more than 30 departments.
USU as it is known widely is situated on a 120Ha land about 6 km from the centre of
Medan. The university offers various programmes at diploma, degree, masters and
doctorate levels. Currently there are more than 32,000 students pursuing various
courses at different levels in this university.

3.5 Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB)
Introduction
• Bandung Institute of Techology or better known as ITB was founded in the year
1959. The ITB's main campus located to the north of Bandung and covers a total
area of 770,000 square metres. Pharmacy higher education program at ITB was
established in the year 1947 under the Department of Pharmacy.
• Since August 29th, 2005, Department of Pharmacy changed its status into School of
Pharmacy, a level that is equivalent to Faculty. By 2006, undergraduate program at
the School of Pharmacy diversify into two study programs, these are Pharmaceutical
Science & Techology (Sains & Teknologi Farmasi, STF) and Clinical & Community
Pharmacy (Farmasi Klinik & Komunitas, FKK) Study programs.

3.7 Universitas Brawijaya (UNBRA)
MALANG
Introduction
Brawijaya University is located in the city of Malang, East Java, Indonesia. From 1957
to 1963, Brawijaya University was in embryonic stage, and was known as Kotapradja
Malang University.
The university was formally established in 1963 with four faculties - Law & Public
Science, Economics, Public & Business Administration, Agriculture, Veterinary
Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Engineering. Later, four more faculties were
established - Medicine (1974), Fisheries (1982), Mathematics & Natural Sciences
(1996) and Agricultural Technology (1998). Now Brawijaya University has 10 faculties
offering both degree and non-degree programmes.
Faculty of Medicine
• The initial set up of medical faculty in Brawijaya University was established in 1962
by several medical doctors. It became one of the faculties in Brawijaya University in
1974.
• The faculty also offers specialist programmes in clinical pathology, internal
medicine, pulmonary diseases, surgery, obstetrics & gynaecology, radiology, ENT
and ophthalmology.

3.8 Universitas Andalas (UNAND)
Introduction
• Andalas University, the oldest university outside Java and the fourth oldest in
Indonesia, was established by the Degree of the Minister of Culture and Education
on December 23rd, 1955.
• The University was officially opened by its founding fathers, the late Vice President;
Drs. Mohammad Hatta, and the Minister of Education and Culture, Sarino
Mangoenpranoto on September 13th, 1956. In its early years, the university had
five faculties; namely Faculty of Agriculture in Paya Kumbuh, Faculty of Medicine,
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science in Bukit Tinggi, Faculty of Law in
Padang and Faculty of Teacher Training in Batusangkar.
Faculty of Medicine
• Faculty of Medicine is the oldest medical education facility outside Java. In fact, it
was established before the establishment of Andalas University.
• The faculty was founded on September 7th, 1955 in Bukit Tinggi. In the early
days, Faculty of Medicine collaborated with Australian University to develop its
educational system and facilities. Unfortunately, due to regional conflict between
1957 and 1959, this cooperation was stopped prematurely. After the cessation of
hostilities in 1959, the faculty began to develop vigorously and that year, it was
relocated to Padang, the capital of West Sumatra.

3.9 Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR)
Introduction
• Airlangga University was established in Surabaya as a branch of Universitas
Indonesia in 1948 with two faculties - Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry.
• University of Airlangga was established as a separate university in 1954 with five
faculties. Another eight faculties were added in 1961.
• Now, the university has developed into one of the leading universites in Indonesia
with several research centres, specific units and major referral centres for scholars
in specific fields.

various stages of development to become one of the leading medical schools in
Indonesia

3.10 First Moscow State Medical University (MSMU)
Introduction
• Also known as I. M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, named after
outstanding Russian scientist – Ivan M. Sechenov, was established in 1758.
• For almost 250 years, MMA has been playing a leading role in the development of
medical science and training of medical and scientific personnel. According to the
UNESCO rating in 1998, MMA took second placing after Rene Descartes Academy
of Medical Sciences.
• MMA is state run higher education institution of the Russian Federation functioning
on the basis of its constitution, legislation, regulations of Russian Ministry of Health
and its own statutes.

• The academy collaborates with 40 therapeutic-prophylactic and apothecary
institutions, research centres and institutes in Moscow. Annually, about 8,000
students from Russia and foreign countries study at the academy.

3.11 Russian National Research Medical University (RNRMU)
Introduction
Established in 1906, Russian National Research Medical University (RSMU) has
around a hundred years of academic excellence and several decades of experience in
the training of foreign students. Over this period, it has been acclaimed as one of the
prestigious medical universities of Russia.
The Pediatric Faculty which was established in 1930 is the first of its kind in the world.
RSMU established its Bio-Medical Faculty in 1963 and has contributed significantly to
the development of molecular biology.
The Post Graduate Training Faculty was founded in 1971 to train graduates of the
university in various special branches of medicine.

Introduction
The University of Debrecen is the oldest continuously operating institution of higher
education in Hungary (since 1538) and has a student body of over 30,000; there are

The Medical & Health Science Centre is one of the largest hospitals in Hungary.

3.13 AICA Education (Australia)
Introduction
This course will equip students with the knowledge and skills to work as a dental
technician. Units include how to design, construct, modify and repair dental prostheses
and appliances including dentures, bridges, crowns and mouthguards. Students will
also learn business skills designed to assist them in managing their own business.
Pathways
Currently there is high demand for trained professionals in this area. Dental technicians
need to be licensed to work in Australia and students can contact the relevant licensing
body in each state. Graduates can continue on to complete the Advanced Diploma of
Dental Technology or Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Technology.
Part-Time Work Opportunities
Students can take up part-time jobs up to 20 hours per week to support their studies.
