Wildflower Planting Days
Sept. 12, 13 & 14
Coloring the hills of Central Texas,
wildflowers remain a state staple. Aiming
to promote proper planting procedures,
Fredericksburg’s Wildseed Farms will
host its annual Fall Planting Days.
The largest family-owned wildflower
center nationwide, Wildseed Farms
will hold daily information sessions and
demonstrations from 2-4 p.m., geared to
teaching successful wildflower planting
and nurturing. Come tour the working
wildflower farm; find specialty gifts,
foods and planting gadgets at their
Wildseed Market, or enjoy lunch at the
BrewBonnet Biergarten. Wildseed Farms

117th Annual German Saengerfest
Sept. 27
Founded by German settlers in the 1840s,
Fredericksburg’s ancestral culture is kept
preserved by their yearly German singing
festival. Sept. 27 marks Fredericksburg’s
117th annual Texanischen Gebirgs
Sangerfest, translated for all of you
non-German speakers to mean the
Hill Country Singers League. Held
nationwide, Sangerfest performances
are customary to the German culture.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of
Fredericksburg’s Arion Maennerchor of
Fredericksburg, an all male choir being
commemorated at the German festival.
The free afternoon event is sure to be a
good time for all.

Oktoberfest

Start gearing up; Oktoberfest celebrates
its 28th birthday complete with singing,
dancing and plenty of toasts to go
around. One of the year’s biggest events,
Oktoberfest is a huge festival celebrating
the Fredericksburg community and
their German heritage. The event sets
the stage with three days of exhibitions,
contests, and the best of German and
Mexican-American foods. Three covered
stages will host over twenty entertainers
featuring the best of German favorites
– oompah, polka and the waltz will be
danced by all. Forty-five juried artists will
showcase specialty arts and collectibles
perfect for gifts and home décor. With a
rock climbing wall, super slide, jumping
castle, and games – the event is a perfect
family adventure the kids are sure to
enjoy. With all festival proceeds going to
support scholarships and local art, you
can celebrate supporting a good cause.
