EDA Grants & Sale of 1016 Charles St.
he Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority (EDA)
awarded $197,600 in grants this spring.
The largest grant, $125,000, went to Germanna Community College (GCC) for
their new Fred CAT: Fredericksburg Center for Advanced Training program.
In order to qualify for the grant, the facility must be located in the city. Grant
funds will be paid over a five-year period with annual criteria measures outlined within a performance agreement.
In addition, the EDA awarded the following grants:
n Desiderio Hebron, Jr., $10,000 matching façade improvement at 201-203 William St.
n Red Dragon Brewery, LLC, $35,000 ($10,000 matching façade improvement and $25,000 For-Profit
JumpStart! grant for interior restoration) at 1419 Princess Anne St.
n Washington Heritage Museums, $1,800 for repairs to Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop at
1020 Caroline St.
n Bluemont Concert Series, $3,500 for Artists-In-Education and Healthcare Outreach program.
n Sprelly LLC, $2,400 to assist with purchase and installation of hood system at 920 Caroline St.
n Rappahannock Rotary, $7,500 event sponsorship for Fredericksburg Music Blast – Beach Music at
the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fairgrounds.
n Fredericksburg Area Museum & Cultural Center, $10,000 for 2016 “Sounds of Summer” concert
series to be held at Market Square.
n Rappahannock POPS Orchestra, $1,400 for a Memorial Day Memoriam Concert at 1001 Sam Perry
Blvd.
n Fredericksburg Parks & Recreation, $1,000 for 2016 art programs and events including The Fine
Arts Show and The Children’s Art Show to be held at the Dorothy Hart Community Center.

The EDA has also completed its project at 1016 Charles St., the former StellarOne Bank property at
the corner of Charles and Amelia Streets. In late March the EDA sold a portion of the property – the
building and 0.22 acres – to an affiliate of Lifecycle Construction Services. Lifecycle moved into the
building, which will serve as its new headquarters, in late April. The EDA deeded the remainder of
the property, about a third of an acre, to the City of Fredericksburg for a municipal parking lot that is
expected to open in early June. The lot will provide a total of 46 public parking spaces on weeknights
and weekends.
