Community Help for Paralyzed Accident Victim
Volunteers from Summit Presbyterian Church, Rebuilding Together Fredericksburg, and Lowe’s of
Fredericksburg have been dedicating their time and expertise to improve a home in Stafford. This home
improvement project is being done for Troy Ohler an accident victim who is paralyzed from the waist
down and needs modifications to his residence for handicap accessibility. This will permit him to become
more self sufficient and to regain the independence and self worth that is so important to a paralysis
victim. The work includes upgrading the bathroom with handicap fixtures, renovating a bedroom, new
flooring, handicap accessible doors, and other upgrades to permit better wheelchair access for Troy. The
work began April 17th and has continued every weekend and will be completed this month.
Primary funding for this project is provided by a $5000 grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational
Foundation. The additional funding required for this project has come through donations to the local
Rebuilding Together affiliate.
This is one of more than 40 home repair projects that Rebuilding Together Fredericksburg is sponsoring
this year in Stafford, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania. Contact information for the Rebuilding Together
affiliate in Fredericksburg is found at http://www.rebuildingtogetherfbg.org or by calling (540) 373-9807.
Volunteers and tax deductible donations are needed to permit home repair projects for low income
families and the disadvantaged to continue in our community.
