FLITE LINES CAREFLITE’s NEWSLETTER Aug – Sept - Oct 2014 Dr. Ron Anderson who served as President and CEO of Parkland Memorial Hospital from 1983 until 2012 when he retired, passed on September 13, 2014. He also served as a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern. A native of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Dr. Anderson spent his entire career working to bring world class medical care to the indigent population of Dallas County. A great supporter of CareFlite, he appeared in our 30th Anniversary video. He will be missed by all who knew him, by those whose health was impacted by his leadership and by the entire Dallas community. Great Southwest Parkway, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052 CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS TO THR’s CEO DOUG HAWTHORNE… On August 12, 2014, CareFlite presented Mr. Hawthorne a model of CareFlite’s 407GX aircraft in thanks for THR’s support of CareFlite and to acknowledge Mr. Hawthorne’s many years of service to Presbyterian and then Texas Health Resources where he has served as CEO since the system’s founding in 1997 with the merger of Presbyterian and Harris Methodist Hospitals. Mr. Hawthorne is retiring at the end of this month and we wish him a wonderful retirement. The presentation was made at THR’s executive leadership meeting at THR headquarters in Arlington. Great Southwest Parkway, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052 CAREFLITE APPOINTS NEW VICE PRESIDENT, FLIGHT OPERATIONS CareFlite has appointed Damon Cooper ATP its new Vice President of Flight Operations. Damon has over 4500 hours of flight time in fixed wing and helicopters. He most recently served as Chief Pilot and Manager of Flight Standards of Jet Solutions in Richardson, Texas. The appointment was effective August 25, 2014. This program is oriented towards South Dallas and usually takes place at Dallas Executive as it did on September 27th. Great Southwest Parkway, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052 TWO EVENTS WORTHY OF YOUR SUPPORT The CareFlite Paluxy Pedal is fast becoming one of the top rides in Texas. The ride starts and ends at the northern tip of the Hill Country in beautiful Glen Rose, Texas. The meandering paved route takes you through scenic views, gentle hills and challenging climbs. Whether you are a novice or advanced rider, you will have fun with the other riders and volunteers who all help to make this ride an unforgettable annual event, and one that you don’t want to miss Ride distance: 29, 50 and 65 miles. All but the 29 mile ride take you to the top of “The Wall” a 3/10 of a mile stretch with a hill grade of almost 19% at its steepest. The view of miles of beautiful vistas is worth the effort. Start time: 8:30 a.m., no riders start after 9 a.m. All riders are asked to be off the course by 3 p.m. Rest stops/support: rest stops and water stations are stationed throughout the course. SAG vehicles constantly monitor the course. Showers are available at the finish line. Register at http://www.paluxypedal.com/about.html and receive early bird special. Early entry fee is $30 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Early registration ends October 3, 2014.
