HELP & HOPE ARE NOW CLOSER THAN EVER IN HILL & BOSQUE COUNTIES SINCE CAREFLITE’S NEW AIR BASE IN WHITNEY OPENED FEBRUARY 28, 2014 CareFlite opened its newest helicopter base in Whitney, Texas on February 28, 2014. In its first month, it flew 37 lifesaving missions. Located on the helipad at the former Lake Whitney Medical Center, the unfortunate closing of the facility has had no impact on the base’s ability to respond in Bosque, Hill and McLennan Counties. For the Whitney area, trauma care is now just a 15 minute CareFlite to Hillcrest Medical Center (a Baylor Scott & White hospital). Response and transport times are now much shorter in Bosque County as shown in the comparison below. Great Southwest Parkway, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052 FASTER BY FAR: JUST 36 MINUTES FROM CALL TO TRAUMA CENTER CAREFLITE TRANSPORTS TRAUMA PATIENT FROM VALLEY MILLS AND SCHEDULES FIRST RESPONDER TRAINING IN BOSQUE COUNTY CareFlite responded from its Whitney Air Base to a vehicle rollover in Valley Mills at FM 56 and CR 3350 on Friday afternoon. From the time the call was received at CareFlite Communications until the patient was delivered to the Trauma Center in Waco at Hillcrest Medical Center was just 36 minutes, well within the Golden Hour. (The Golden Hour refers to the national effort to get all trauma patients to a Level 1 or 2 Trauma Center in less than 60 minutes.) Help from the First Responders was also a key factor in helping to expedite the transport. The efficiency and urgency of CareFlite’s air operations are illustrated by the dispatch times for this transport. Established in 1979, CareFlite is the oldest joint use air medical transportation service in the nation. It opened its Air Base in Whitney on February 28th utilizing an Agusta 109 helicopter in order to better serve Bosque, Hill and McLennan Counties. The Agusta 109 is the fastest medical helicopter in the region with a maximum cruise speed of 173 miles per hour. CareFlite’s Whitney Air Base is 15 miles closer to Bosque County and its aircraft 44 MPH faster than the next nearest medical helicopter. The Whitney Air Base is staffed 24/7 with a pilot holding an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, a Flight Nurse and a Flight Paramedic. Our aircraft was unable to participate due to having to transport a real patient. The patients were taken by Ground to Hill Regional. ©2012 CareFlite, 3110 S. Great Southwest Parkway, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052 The Shattered Dreams program includes taking the student who acted as the drunk driver to jail and the victims to a hospital on a ground ambulance or by helicopter. Those acting each role are typically covered with simulated wounds that look very realistic. The hope is that anyone seeing this will refrain from dangerous acts. ©2012 CareFlite, 3110 S. The goal of the program is to further the interests of high school students that are currently juniors in high school to pursue health care careers by providing learning experiences in a health care setting. The program is funded by J.P. Morgan Chase Bank. CareFlite crew members presented career opportunities in EMS while also demonstrating a variety of the tools of our trade. Students learn what health professionals do, education and training in these fields, develop a higher interest in making healthcare a career, receive first hand exposure to a hospital setting, network with fellow students and hospital staff, and gain leadership skills.
