Drinking a nice cup of tea with the Queen of England bathing in my tea and
looking through the window to see the bad weather of this day. Raining, wind
and leaves fluttering down, that means autumn has begun. A nice time for our
collection, and that we will have it busy that’s a fact. Because there are a lot
of new teabags. So much that I cannot put them all into this magazine. One of
the newest teabags from the Netherlands are the Albert Hein teabags. In next
number I will show you them. In this magazine of course a lot of new teabags,
my story about a teabagcollector, the last country list, some information
about Kaldi a Dutch teabag company with very special and nice teabags and of course the teabag

My name is Els van Gastel. I am 64 years
old and live in Hoofddorp, it's 10 km from
airport Schiphol in the province NoordHolland. I was married to Arend and we
didn't have children. Sadly my husband just passed
away). We do have a dog and his name is Bruno. He is a
foxterrier. I have been collecting since childhood, first
sugarbags, matchboxes. Later stamps and a short period
jokers from playing cards. First I made cards with teabags. Family and friends collected teabags for me. I had
many different teabags and that's how I started my collection in 1996. The first brand was Pickwick. I now have ± 9000 teabags. I also collect coffeecreamcups-lids. I
exchange by internet and mail. I also exchange beerlabels, stamps, sugarbags, etc
for teabags. I hope in the future to make a website (but I

You know you're a teabag collector when:
xYou feel compelled to purchase new kinds of tea that you don't particularly care for, just so you can
xYou know words like "tea", "green", "black", "lemon", and "apple" in ten (or more) different languages.
xYou've drank tea without knowing what kind it was, because you couldn't read the wrapper.
xYou get excited when you see a new packaging design for Lipton's old kinds of teas.
xYou've secretly taken empty teabag wrappers from someone's trashcan when you were at their house.
xYou never, ever just tear open a teabag. In fact, you have a special knife or scissors just for opening
teabags.
xYou never make a cup of tea with a teabag that still has a tag attached to it.
xWhen your guests have tea, you open the bag for them. If you're feeling especially kind (or selfconscious), you might let them use the tag, but you keep a watchful eye on it so you can remove the
tag before the used teabag gets thrown away.
xWhen your friends offer you a cup of tea, you look at their selection and drink a kind that you don't
already have in your collection. Usually you already have envelopes from most of the kinds of tea they
have, anyway.
xYou have developed specialized detective skills so that when you're in the tea aisle at the grocery
store, you can shake, tap, jiggle, and squeeze an unopened box of tea and figure out whether the teabags inside are individually wrapped.
xYou're extremely disappointed when you open the new box of tea you bought and discover that the individually wrapped teabags are in plain white envelopes.
xWhen you're putting empty teabags into your albums, you can identify whether the teabag still has the
tag inside (or attached) by simply feeling the bag rather than looking.
xAnd lastly: Your husband is afraid to buy you tea for a gift, because he has no idea which one(s) you

south of the scenic
landscapes around
Guilin is Heng Xian
County in GuangXi
province, China. The
area, considered the
largest producer of
Jasmine tea in the
world today, was also
home to the sixth annual Jasmine Tea
Festival Aug. 15-16.
In attendance were
many Chinese tea buyers, along with several
from Taiwan, who maintained that the local
Jasmine flower production is as high-quality as
it is important to the economy. Jackson C.M.
Huang, chairman of the Taiwan Tea Manufacturers Association told me that, 30 years ago,
the biggest jasmine fields were in Ninde, in Fujian province. The move further south to
GuanXi was made because here, more land and
more labor were available, offering the possibility to increase the production. Today that
production is estimated to be of about 50,000
tons per year. Local farmers pick the flowers
by hand, daily,
from mid April
through October.
They bring their
full nets to the
official flower
market in town
or carry them directly to tea factories in the vicinity. In town
there are three
markets:

traded daily

One where buyers source premium teas
to under go the scenting process

One where the finished jasmine teas are
displayed for sale
A blackboard at the entrance of the flower market
broadcasts each day’s weather forecast, the previous day’s total of flowers delivered and today’s
price per kilogram. This day, it was 15 Yuan (about
$2.20). Pickers shoveled heaps of flowers into big
nets for weighing. There was not only Jasmine, but
also some Ylang Ylang, giving the place a heavenly
smell. So, how is the scenting process carried out?
Through insect-repelling wire mesh sliding doors,
you could see workers with big shovels bustle
around huge batches of loose tea and flowers,
spread out on the floor, continuously moving the
tea and flowers around. Ma Da, a buyer from
Guangzhou International Tea Trading Center, explained that the moving around process is done for
about 12 hours. Then the tea and flower mixture is
put into a pyramid-shaped pile for the evening. This
is because, at midnight, the flowers release their
maximum scent. In the morning the flowers are
separated out – either the tea is finished after one
scenting operation, or new flowers are added. This
process can be repeated up to 6 times, explaining
the wide variation in prices. Ma Da, a buyer from
