Adding Elton John to the prestigious list of names that have headlined over the years at Harveys (bringing in around 7,000 people to the Stateline area each show) is really exciting for the biggest entertainment town in the world, Lake Tahoe. My favorite encore of any of the acts that performed was Chicago and the Doobie Brothers playing together three songs from each of their hits we’ve enjoyed since the 70s. You could also feel how they loved playing all together at the end of the show. Next year, I’m sure will be another cool year to enjoy the outdoor fun. Tahoe is also known for its many benefit events that raise money to help our community. We at the Lake Tahoe Entertainer have helped promote many of these events over the years. The Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra had their 8th Annual SeptOberfest at Montbleu. There were fun games that put lots of smiles on peoples faces, good beer and wine, German food, live music and a DJ, George Alm (from KRLT 93.9) doing the live auctions and entertaining the crowd so well (like he always does), and beautiful German Maidens who helped out and shared their cute smiles. This event raised money for people in need in our town. Great job for all who helped out! Barton Community Clinic put on a new event that was a Signature Cocktail Contest where the winner’s drink will be featured at the Barton Foundation’s 19th Annual Gala, Festival of Trees and Lights. Riva Grill was the host, and wow did they serve excellent appetizers as you sampled everyone’s sweet and delicious concoctions of Ketel One vodka drinks. Chip Norton from Edgewood Tahoe submitted the winning drink. Upstairs at Riva, you saw our beautiful lake during this cool first-time event, and enjoyed live music. Santa Claus chatting with everyone made for a good time and money was raised once again to help out our community. Great job everyone! For over 50 years, around the September 10th weekend, the Ostrich & Camel Races at Virginia City has been a blast to check out. This year was no different. People riding a seven-foot tall ostrich that doesn’t like giving rides is too funny. And some camels don’t really want to race, so it’s a crack-up to watch. The ostriches also pull people in chariots, while the riders use a broom to try to guide them – too crazy, but a ton of fun. Then you walk around downtown and party in all the bars, little casinos, great stores and restaurants. Miss Nevada USA 2010, Julianna Erdesz, was an added bonus to all the excitement as she took photos with everyone all day. This event makes for a fun day – check it out next year. Tahoe loves its Halloween parties, and the Lake Tahoe Entertainer’s Pictorial Issue is November. The 32nd Annual Freakers Ball at Montbleu, Vex Nightclub at Harrah's, Whiskey Dick’s, and Cabo Wabo at Harveys are the most popular parties over the years. I photo-shoot hundreds of pictures for all of Tahoe to enjoy. People come up with the wildest costumes each year, and the girls are really sexy. Harrah’s is hosting Foreigner Oct. 8, Night Ranger Oct. 16, Hit Men All-Stars Oct. 23, and Rock Sugar Oct. 30. Montbleu has Ultimate Reno Combat MMA Cage Fights Oct. 9. You can see live bands, good DJs, Go-Go dancers, and body painters while you enjoy drink specials at Opal Ultra Lounge and Blu Nightclub. The Improv at Harveys, with new comics each week and host Howie Nave, is always good for lot of laughs. Lakeside Inn & Casino has great food and drink specials during football games. Catch Rocky, Carlee & Trey playing at Murphy’s Irish Pub (The Rockwater) every Tuesday. Cabo Wabo and Vex Nightclub goes off huge on the weekends. Get some football squares at Fox & Hound, Sam’s Place and Mott Canyon. The peel and eat shrimp for $5 for Monday Night Football at The Fresh Ketch is delicious. Bloody Marys with a beer back for $3.50 on Sundays at Turn 3 is very good And remember, come on be happy. Have fun – you’re in Tahoe! Another Late Night with LateNiteBilly Well summer is officially over and it’s time to get hyped again for some Powder! It's been a few months since I've written this article and it’s good to be back. Many of you were reading to follow my trails while I was on tour with Girls Gone Wild and others were just waiting for the next show. Well, I'm back in town for a while after ten long months on tour, and yes... we did find "The Hottest Girl in America"! Most have been surprised to run into me after being back for the last month and I know a lot of people are excited to see a lot more shows rolling through town again! First off, my Tuesday Night Party at Whiskey Dicks is going strong as ever now after about six months in the running. If you haven't caught on yet, it's a locals dream, ecpecially during the slow season... no cover, inexpensive drinks ($2 from 9-11pm) and great music with DJBird and DJ Keenan throwing down the Hip-Hop every week. Definitely a cool, classy crowd and lots of beautiful ladies! Since I have been back we have seen some great shows with the likes of Zion-I w/ Z-Man and The Bayliens, Mystic Roots w/ Zion Roots and Pato Banton & the Now Generation Band. All shows were well attended and off the hook! Now let's talk about what is going to get us through the first part of the "slow season" till the snow hits! We have a couple more shows at Whiskey Dicks and also our first event back at Mo's Place in quite some time. On Friday, October 15th at Whiskey Dicks, The Dickies are back for one night only. It's been a couple years since they have graced the stage and I am excited to have them back. Local favorites, Ninja Slaughterhouse will open the show and I know they are working on a new album so this could be a good time to hear some new stuff from them! The Dickies were among the first punk rock bands to emerge from Los Angeles in 1977. They were the first California punk band to appear on network television and the first California punk band to be signed to a major record label. The Dickies' style is campy and humorous, influenced by The Ramones, for whom they sometimes opened. They started playing around the burgeoning L.A. punk scene and quickly earned a following with their zany live show, which featured outlandish costumes, puppets, and a midget roadie. If you want to know more, well... you know where to find them on October 15th! Sunday of the same weekend (October 17th) at Whiskey Dicks we bring you an Artist most Underground Hip-Hop fans have seen before either solo, or with his crew Living Legends, Luckyiam, but to bring something new to the table we bring a phenomenon that is taking over YouTube these days, the Grindtime M.C. Battles. Grind Time Now is the fastest growing urban media company and the largest battle rap league in the world. It was started by noted battle MCs David 'Drect' Williams and Joshua 'Madd Illz' Carrasco with a monumental push from co-owner/CEO Nicholas 'Lush One' Hyams, with the intention of bringing more exposure to upcoming artists who weren't receiving the light that they deserve. In addition to a performance by Luckyiam, several of the Grindtime Battle M.C.'s such as Cadalack Ron, Mestizo, Rollin' Rockers (Plex & Lush One), Kap Kallous, Trevercrow and DJ Iron Byron will join the stage as well. This will also be an opportunity for new Grindtime Battle M.C.'s to be found. GrindTimeNow has a partnership with youtube, which was earned as their youtube channel skyrocketed to popularity. This videos on this channel get on average over 35,000 views a day. Check them for yourself! Last up, we bring you Lake Tahoe's Hottest Halloween Party outside the Casino's. This is the Pre-Party to all the others and is taking place on Friday, October 29th at Mo's Place. Come check out Mo's Haunted Mansion (trust me, the building is truly haunted, ask any one of the employee's that has spent any amount of time there over the years afterhours)! We will transform the club into a Haunted Mansion like you have never seen it before - this will be a blacklight party and you will be impressed! Costumes are not mandatory but encouraged and there will be $500 in cash for the most creative, sexiest (male and female) and the most original. $2 drinks will get things started between 8-9pm and $3 drink specials will take you through the rest of the night! We have confirmed Reno and Tahoe's HOTTEST DJ's, FM Marc & XM Freddie (Hi'R Entertainment / Volume Control) plus DJ-Bird & Keenan (South Lake Tahoe) spinning Hip-Hop, Funky House, Electro and Mashup's all night. Advance tickets to all of our shows are available at the venue or Mad About Music in South Lake or online at www.Ticketweb.com Well Tahoe, I will see you soon at a show! This Winter you can count on lots of great shows at Whiskey Dicks as usual, lot's of new stuff at Mo's Place and some great shows in the works at Montbleu Resort! Till next month... Keep the Vibe Alive! ~LateNiteBilly Howie Nave COMEDY FROM THE MOUNTAIN Here it is fall already and still feeling a little off-kilter. Why? Well, our spring was furloughed really because of an extended winter and summer was more like spring and here it is fall that will hopefully be a regular fall because we need the winter as it’s part of our cash cow up here and hopefully it’ll snow before Thanksgiving so people will come up up here in droves, drop their tourist money around the entire basin, maybe buy a few more ads for this rag and then I’ll get paid for writing this. Okay, maybe that’ll never happen but one must always hang on to a dream….. October is my favorite month mainly because it’s Halloween but more so this time because best friend and Best Man (coming in December) Rocky LaPorte returns to the Lake. Since he was here last a lot has been happening for Rock most notably his involvement with Showtime television’s special called, “The Godfathers of Comedy.” The special is based on his tour of the same name featuring all Italian comedians (which includes John Caponera). Look for it later this year on the cable network. Rocky’s also been on the big screen with the Tim Allen remake of the Disney classic, “The Shaggy Dog” and co-stars in Allen’s “Crazy On the Outside” which Tim not only stars in but directed and served as co-producer. The movie also stars Sigourney Weaver, Ray Liotta and Kelsey Grammer. Rocky is also slated to shoot another television pilot and everyone in the comedy business wants him to land a sitcom soon. When not touring Rocky likes to do charity events to give back and some of his favorite organizations include St. Jude’s for Children, NFL Charities, countless homeless shelters, cancer research and various police and fire dept. fundraisers. Rocky calls Chicago home and lately we’ve both been exchanging gardening tips to one another. He’ll send over pics of an arrangement of flowers he planted from this past summer while I recently sent him pics of some Jeffery Pine and Douglas Fir that I planted. Comedian Graham Elwood said it best, “It’s nice having two old ladies have a hobby that they can do to keep busy in their latter years.” Performing with Rocky is another fav: Ron Morey. It’s like having Christmas and Halloween all rolled into one this week. Ron is a unique talent and quite visual. He incorporates a lot of his Scottish heritage into his act which is hilarious. He’s performed overseas working for the USO in places such as Italy, Greece, Bahrain, and Germany. Ron has also been featured on NFL Films, PBS, A&E and even on Snoop Dogg’s MTV show, “DoggyFizzle Televizzle.” He’s opened for such diverse acts as George Lopez, Tracy Morgan, Ellen DeGeneres and D. L. Hughley. A fine show indeed the week of October 13th through the 17th. Gotta mention Mark Pitta coming back here too. Mark started out at the height of the comedy boom in San Francisco during the heydays of the 1980s. Back then he was performing with the likes of Robin Williams, Kevin Pollack, Bob Sarlatte and Dana Carvey just to name a bay area few. Mark, a bay area native born in Oakland and raised in San Lorenzo moved to Los Angeles where he had regular appearances on “The Tonight Show,” “3rd Rock From the Sun,” “Mad About You,” Fox’s “Totally Hidden Video,” “Comedy Central” and many others. He has also toured with Paul Anka, Howie Mandel, Dana Carvey and occasionally sat in with the famed improvisational group, The Groundlings.Over the years Pitta was able to interview the giants not just in the entertainment world but also in the sports arena. Among his buddies is baseball great Mark McGwire. During his record setting season a few years back, Pitta wrote an article for USA TODAY on how he would instruct McGwire to answer the ridiculous questions that the press was asking him. See? Comedians also come in handy as advisers and not just professional jokesters. See Pitta October 27th through Halloween. Howie Nave is the host/emcee of The Improv Comedy Club inside Harveys and also has a morning radio on KRLT. When not doing that you can hear (and see) him on Lake Tahoe Television where he whores himself out doing movie reviews. You can also go to his website at Howienave.com but that's extra credit. What's New, What's Now & What's Next The “32th Annual Freakers Ball” Tahoe’s largest, oldest and most extravagant Halloween Party continues its ghostly tradition on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Due to the seare size of this event, The Freakers Ball now includes all three of MontBleu’s party venues Opal Ultra Lounge, Blu Nightclub and the 14,000 sq, ft. Grand Ballroom. This year’s party will feature elaborate decorations, drink specials, body painting, GoGo dancers and the live non-stop dance hits from “Pop Fiction.” A $10,000 cash and prize costume contest with event support from local favorites such as Sierra at Tahoe, The Powder House Ski and Snowboard, Sierra Athletic Club and Lake Tahoe TV keep it real. All night drink specials featuring Absolut, Jagermiester, Jameason and Malibu rum will keep the party rolling. Doors will open at 8 PM. One affordable ticket price gets you a VIP wristband that allows access to all three parties. Tickets are still only $20 in advance and $25 the night of the event.
