I’ve been waiting for her to perform in Tahoe for years, and now it’s time for some Silverman fun. From New Hampshire, with influences of Jerry Lewis and Steve Martin, Sarah, 40, was a writer and feature player on Saturday Night Live’s 93-94 season. She’s been in a lot of TV shows, movies, and her show on Comedy Central from 2007-2010 was a big hit. Her concert film in 2005, “Jesus Is Magic”, is so funny. Known for addressing social taboos, controversial topics, racism, sexism, and religion, she’s her own unique comedy style with enormous talent. And yes, she can sing also. Her 2010, “The Bedwetter” book, was on the New York Times BestSeller list. She hosted the MTV Awards in 2007 and ripped up many celebs, that was funny. It’s time to have sassy Sarah in Tahoe. Yonder Mountain String Band will perform April 20th at MontBleu. Blues and Rock star Kenny Wayne Sheperd and his band comes to Harrah’s April 9th. Kenny is a seasoned vet at age 33, since he’s been recording and touring since he was 17. Sheperd had many Grammy nominations, Billboard Music Awards and has sat in and played his amazing guitar with all the greats out there. From Louisiana, he was self-taught to play and has never stopped. His Hendrix version of “Voodoo Child” is so cool. Sheperd’s “Live in Chicago” is number 1 on the Blues Chart. His vocalist, Noah Hunt, and his talented band, is so impressive to hear and watch. Kenny has opened for the Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Bob Dylan and Van Halen. He married actor Mel Gibson’s oldest daughter Hannah in 2006 and they have 3 children. This music will make you feel good. G. Love and Special Sauce April 16th at Harrah’s will be a party atmosphere. Garret Dutton on guitar, vocals and harmonica, mixes Blues-Hip Hop and Alternative Rock to a tasty blend that is loved at all his shows. This 3 piece band with Dutton’s very cool flowing rhymes, makes for a fun and entertaining show. I met Garret, who’s from Philadelphia, years ago when he first came to Tahoe at the Nugget’s outdoor shows in North Shore. He also tours with his friend, Jack Johnson, who’s played Harvey’s outdoor shows. His album “Lemonade” is very popular and I love his song “Can’t Go Back To Jersey”. He was influenced by the Beastie Boys. This is a good-time show. April 23rd is Air Supply. Harrah’s had Robin Trower with his classic rock style. At 66, from England, Trower has played with Procol Harem, Jack Bruce, (from Cream), Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) and has a new release out called, “The Playful Heart”. Trower’s unmistakable guitar tone captures the classic 70’s sound. His 1974, “Bridge of Sighs”, still holds up today. Ghostland Observatory at Harrah’s have their own unique music sound as a duet. There laser lights and their funky music mix was enjoyed. Tahoe loves St. Paddy’s Day and all the fun that goes with it. This month’s Entertainer is filled with locals having fun at the many events that were happening. McP’s Pub Tahoe, Murphy’s Irish Pub, MO’s Place - presented by LateNite Productions, Opal Ultra Lounge and Blu Night Club at MontBleu and Tahoe Douglas Rotary International 43 year tradition St. Patrick’s celebration at MontBleu. There was lots of people wearing green, beads, drink specials, prizes, The Guiness Girls, Go-Go Dancers, foam party, live auctions for local charities and more. Everyone was having a great time all over and many other places in town also. Check out Laughs at the Improv at Harveys. Live music at Whiskey Dick’s, Fresh Ketch, Beacon, Fox and Hound, The Flight Deck, Cabo Wabo, Arty the Party at Harrah’s, and April 24th at Mo’s Place will be Afroman with his hit song, “Because I Got High”. Vex Nightclub at Harrah’s on Friday and Saturday goes off big with their sexy dancers and DJ music. And remember, Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner. Have fun, you’re in Tahoe! Another Late Night with LateNiteBilly Between a near sold-out show with Delhi 2 Dublin and our "off the hook" St. Paddys Day Party, Mo's Place was definitely the place to be last month!! Delhi 2 Dublin threw down one of the most energetic and unique live sets I have seen in a LONG time! Tahoe just couldn't get enough! We brought together all the World Music / Summertime Festival goers, the local Indian community and everyone in between! What an amazing night. They will be back at Mo's Place on July 13th after they play the California World Music Festival this Summer. Finding a band like that is definitely one of the main things that inspires me to do what I do! Now all Winter long people have been asking me, "when in Andre Nickatina coming back?" Its been about two years since he has been to the Lake so here we go!! Wednesday, April 13th Andre Nickatina and Smoov-e live in concert at Cal Neva Resort in Crystal Bay (North Lake) and all-ages are welcome. A favorite at public venues and on college campuses, Andre Nickatina continues to sustain an amazingly loyal fan-base, while engaging new supporters throughout North America. Nickatina’s classic stage show combined with his rare interviews, maintains his mystery and unique musicianship that has spanned two decades. The longevity of Nickatina speaks for itself. An awardwinning MC and producer (2005 Bay Area Artist of The Year / Album of The Year for "Bullets"), Nickatina’s vision has expanded beyond the 18 albums (and hundreds of thousands of sales) that he has executiveproduced. Also, a diverse artist, Nickatina has gained critical acclaim for his work and vision as a filmmaker, with more than seven films to his credit as either a director, co-director, executive producer, producer or actor. Now for Smoov-e. He has played alongside Nickatina many times in Reno and also shared the stage with Mickey Avalon right here at the Lake but has now "re-invented" himself. As of 2010 Eli has signed with I-Khan Distribution headed by his friend and mentor Andre Nickatina. In order to represent yet another new direction in his illustrious career he has dropped the moniker “Smoov-e” and is now known simply as “Eli”. He’s currently putting the rapping aside and focusing his efforts on singing and song writing. All the elements of Smoov-e that define his persona and style are still there, just in a different package. It’s plain to see the old Smoov-e of dirty raps isn’t gone…he’s just become, as Nickatina put it, “The New Face Of Rock & Roll”. Next up, I will be heading out on tour with the "Worlds Highest Rapper" for a string of shows in Mammoth, North Lake, South Lake, Reno and we will even be doing an up close and personal meet and greet at the Beach Hut Deli in South Lake on Sunday, 4/24 and guess what time? Yes, 4:20pm! This is free and all ages are welcome for pictures, autographs and more! Friday, April 22nd he will be performing live at Cal Neva Resort in North Lake for and all ages show and on Sunday, April 24th he will be live at Mo's Place for a 21+ show. Don't miss Afroman as he blazes though Tahoe! The song "Because I Got High" was based on Afroman's inability to clean up his room. The song lists a number of activities -- cleaning his room, going to court, attending class -- that get derailed because of "reefer madness." But that didn't stop his success! The song is the #1 downloaded ringtone in the word, it made it to the soundtrack of Kevin Smith's film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, it got him signed to a 6 record deal with Universal Records and it keeps him playing sold-out show after sold out show, Were not slowing down for Spring either. May brings us the hottest Cinco de Mayo Party in South Lake. The Patron will be flowin with superstar DJBrird and DJ Keenan spinning Hip-Hop, Electro, Reggaeton and Mash-up's at Mo's Place on 5/5. Pato Banton will be making an appearance in Reno on 5/11 and I am proud to announce Detroits finest, Eminem's supergroup, D12 on 5/15 in Reno. This show was almost sold out the day we put tickets on sale so get one if you can!! GIRLS gone WILD will be making there annual rounds as they finish up with Spring Break in South Padre Island and coming to town on 5/17 at Mo's. The infamous Tour Bus will be on location and the Film Crew will be filming live for their 2nd season of "Hottest Girl in America" on Mark Cuban's HDNET TV. Don't miss the $200 cash prize wet t-shirt and more! You even get a free DVD with paid cover! If I haven't already made the announcement sooner, this time next month I will be telling everyone about the next big and exciting endeavor of mine. Its a little to early to leak it yet but I can assure you, I will have Tahoe rockin' on a whole new level!! I just launched a new website at www.LakeNiteProductions.com so please bookmark it. You can be the first to find out about Tahoe's hottest Concerts and Events, buy tickets there and more! I have to give a shout-out to Sierra At Tahoe for their continued support. Till next time, Keep the Vibe Alive! ~LateNiteBilly Howie Nave COMEDY FROM THE MOUNTAIN So the snow has dissipated and people have put aside their desire to kill people now that the sun (and spring) have finally arrived? Well, it’s about time! People were calling me up on the air telling me that this was like the third heaviest snow season in like 25 years! Wow. It’s funny too seeing all of the shingles that have parted ways with my roof when those huge blocks of ice slid off in massive chunks. I’m thinking all of this snow (especially out in the Meyers and Christmas Valley area) will be gone by June. When that happens I’m going to have the greenest grass in Tahoe. Why? Well all during the snow season we would let the dogs outside on two relatively long chains that pretty much covered the perimeter of the front yard. They did their business (lots of business too I might add) and then it would be covered up when the next system moved in so I’m predicting by this time next month a lot of that fertilizer will find its way to whatever grass is frozen under there and eventually turn from its natural color turning into a big, damn green machine to assist in the reforestation process. Ah nature ai its very best. Speaking of all things natural comedian Joe Starr is back for the first time in ages and this time he’s bringing his wife, Fran who has never been up to Tahoe before. We love Joe because he’s not only one of the best story tellers around and I don’t mean that in a tucks to bed ever night kind of thing either no. Joe is like a throw back to those old days of comedy where the you really have to wait to get to the eventual punch line because of the build up but always well worth the extra wait. It’s because in part to his whole New York attitude. A lot of attitude. Maybe becasue it runs in his family? I mean his grandfather was a vaudeville performer and Joe says that talent in his family skips a generation so that makes Joe the keeper of the laughter. The last time he was here I had him on both my radio and television show. I asked him about talent skipping a generation in hs family and he said “Yeah, it’s actually a common thread with most comedians I know. I’m sure it was the same with you Howie. I mean, you’re father must have been hilarious.” Was that a cut? Be sure to see a little east coast with Joe along with Don McEnery the week of April 6th through the 10th. Back to headline for the second time up here is Scott Henry. He had to start headlining because hen he was middling he was making it tough for the headliner so it was bound to happen…..finally. Like a good Midwestern boy, Scott followed in his father’s footsteps and began working as a machinist in a tool and die shop. That was back in 1988. He knew that life wasn’t for him even though it made perfect sense for a career in stand up. One day Scott’s boss stopped by the machine he was operating and suggested he go to an open mic night at the nearby comedy club. That’s funny because you get the idea his boss was dropping very strong hints to NOT become a machinist like his father. Either that or was going to fire him! The great news is that Scott did very well at that open mic night and Scott was hooked. A year later he left Milwaukee for good and pursued his career developing indo a fine stand-up comedian. Working with Scott is Darryl Lenox and I’m stoked that he’s here this week. He was here only one time and that was three years ago! First off his humor is extremely insightful, incisive and pushes it to the edge commenting on the absurdity of everyday life. Second, he does a killer Morgan Freeman that nobody can touch! And get this: he too wasn’t supposed to go into comedy. After a friend challenged him to stop talking and start living, he entered an open mic competition in Seattle and the rest is history. Admittedly his first set wasn’t exactly flawless, but it did plant a seed that would grow into lifelong obsession. Lenox embraced his gift, fought hard and people began to talk. Seizing every opportunity, Darryl won more and more stage time throughout the Northwest and revealed the beginnings of a world-class stand-up career. Darryl now tours the globe and entertains at world-renowned comedy festivals like HBO’s Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and Montreal’s Just For Laughs Comedy Festival. Lenox has built up an impressive list of accomplishments including appearances on A&E’s Evening at the Improv, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, Jamie Foxx’s Laffa Pallooza, BET’s Comic View, and Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival. Catch both Darryl and Scott April 13th through the 17rh. This is Joel Lindley’s second time here as a headliner. I think what I like most about watching Joel perform is the expression on the unsuspecting audience’s faces when they hear some of the stuff he says. I don’t know maybe it’s his sarcastic, observational slant directed at authority figures that cracks me (and the crowds) up the most. Maybe it’s the women in his life who he sometimes has little patience with? Although I have to admit looking back it was pretty funny when one of his ex-girlfriends had the password to one of his social networking sites (might have been MySpace it was a while back) and changed the password after posting that he was a bunch of things that I can’t print here and asked who out there has dated him and would they like to also post their comment too? Joel has done some pretty off-the-wall things I admit some pretty damn funny too. Remember not too long ago when there were tons of those spam emails from Nigerian embassies or ndividuals promising that millions of dollars were waiting for you if you would send over your SS#, pin number and oh yeah-$500 to $5000 as a ‘processing fee” and then the money was all yours? Well Joel would actually send replies to ALL of those emails and have a check ready after setting up an appointment to actually meet with them at the Los Angles International Airport! He would give them the bogus check if they would agree to have their picture taken holding an outrageous sign or posing like an nimrod to show what idiots they were. After he got his pic Joel would then post them on a website dedicated exclusively to those scammers for all to see! I thought for sure we would never hear from Joel again. He’s back and so is Shayla Rivera! She’s on my radio show every Wednesday morning in a segment we call, “It’s Rocket Science with Shayla Rivera” but seeing her in person is always way better. To this day I wonder what was going through Shayla River’s head when she told her parents she was giving up her job as a rocket scientist for NASA to become a full-fledged comedian. Shayla really was a rocket scientist working on the space shuttle and Space Station systems at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. She attended Texas A&M University earning her degree in Aerospace Engineering and then landed the gig at NASA soon after. This was her chosen career path because she wanted to be an astronaut when she grew up. Quite a dream too for the ambitious Shayla. While she was at NASA Shayla realized that her calling was going to lie elsewhere. She had anticipated being in a world on the leading edge of technology guided by Americas’ greatest minds but instead Shayla found out, “It was more like being at K-Mart with lots of pocket protectors.” The native of Puerto Rico still jokes that one of the reasons she left NASA was that “They wouldn’t let me put St. Christopher on the Shuttle’s dashboard.” Sshayla and Joel April 20th to the 24th. Howie Nave is the host/emcee/ manager of The Improv @ Harveys every Wednesday through Sunday and also hosts his own morning show (“Howie’s Morning Rush”) on 93.9 KRLT radio Monday through Friday from 6 to 10am. He’s also on Lake Tahoe Television doing interviews with comedians and film reviews during the segment called, “Nave’s Raves.” Oh yeah, his DVD, “Live From Lake Tahoe” is currently available after his shows nightly or you can order a copy on his website, www.Howienave.com and make sure you check him out on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/howie.nave. Fly Fishing What are we going to do with all of this water? Hopefully fish in it! This has been one of the bigger winters I can remember and I can't remember not being able to fish on a river in the month of March. Don't fear though, the fishing is already back and the flows will hopefully not get to out of control over the next few months. It has been good for the rivers especially the East Walker River where the flows reached 850 CFS. These flows blew out the silt and all the weeds and the river hasn't looked so good in years! You have to have big flows now and again to keep our rivers healthy and with controlled flows below our reservoirs the rivers were looking pretty ugly from the past few years of drought. I'd say we are back in business but we might be fishing a lot of Streamers this spring. Indian Creek Reservoir has been stocked with some pretty good quality fish over the past month or so and if the rivers blow out again it will be one of our better options for wetting a fly. Buggers and Blood Midges should be the ticket during the month of April! Look for fish rising to the Blood Midges in the afternoons and evenings otherwise throw a Bugger backed with a Blood Midge trailer stripped slowly on a full sinking line. Float Tubers tend to have better access to the rising fish but I have had many a good day just fishing from the banks! Pyramid Lake is doing wonderfully and will just get better and better as we get closer to the month of May. I have heard of more fish over 10 pounds lately than I have in many years, I might have to give it a go myself some time soon. Dark and light Buggers, Beetles and Chironomids fished with a full sinking line from a ladder is the tradition but if the fish aren't taking the stripped fly switch to the indicator system. Copper Johns, PT's, or just about any thing that has some flash will work! The East Walker had some great hatches prior to the high water and with the weeds and silt went some of the Baetis Nymphs. The hatch is still there but not as heavy as it was. The Stones seemed to stick around and when the water gets a bit warmer the fish should start eating them. Otherwise streamers are going to be the norm! Who knows when we will see the road to the Little Truckee? At this point I would say not until mid April at the earliest. The flows have stayed down this winter and hopefully when the road opens the water won't go too high. The LT can be a lot of fun when the Baetis are going in April! Get your last chance at the Tahoe Keys this April, Fish and Game will be removing as many of the Warm Water Species as they can. If you like fishing for Bass, Crappie or the Bluegill in the Keys get in there soon! The Browns tend to get in there this time of year as Victor Babbit well and they are not targeting them but they are targeting some of the fish they like to eat. Buggers with a full sinking line work great! If you would like further information on these fisheries or any others in our area, stop by Tahoe Fly Fishing Outfitters or give us a call and we will set you up with what ever it takes to get you out on the water for a great day of fishing! We are located at 2705 Lake Tahoe Blvd. about 3.5 miles from the Casinos. 530-541-8208 www.tahoeflyfishing.com Entertainment & Events Spring is here, weather is improving, and we keep working hard at PRE to bring some of the hottest shows in the country to Lake Tahoe for spring ski/ snowboard season. We had a blast in March with some great shows, but what stands out from all of them is the Trevor Hall concert we did for the Jerel Dutton Benefit. It was a magical evening from beginning to end. The Mark Sexton Band from Reno opened the show, then Jerel Dutton made his homecoming debut, singing two amazing songs and addressing the audience for the first time since his almost losing his life back in November. We’ve posted pictures and videos of this event at our fan page, www.facebook.com/PREpresent. As a “fan” of PRE, you can also win tickets to all our shows, backstage passes, even room/show packages. We will start out our spring season with one of the funniest ladies of comedy, Sarah Silverman on April 9. Sarah's comic style is somewhat controversial and could perhaps be considered edgy, or even over the edge. She was raised by Jewish parents, so the topic of religion is often on the table. She has also addressed issues like sex and racism in her shows. If you’re never seen Sarah Silverman, I highly recommend her if you love to laugh!! She’s great. Yonder Mountain String Band will stop in Lake Tahoe on their spring tour, on Wednesday, April 20. Yonder on 4/20 will be one of the best shows this season. Guaranteed to sell-out so get your tickets early. Yonder Mountain String Band has always played music by its own set of rules. Bending bluegrass, rock and countless other influences that the band cites, Yonder has pioneered a sound of their own. With their traditional lineup of instruments, the band may look like a traditional bluegrass band at first glance but they’ve created their own music that transcends any genre. Dave Johnston points out “What could be more pure than making your own music.” Yonder’s sound cannot be classified purely as “bluegrass” or “string music” but rather it’s an original sound created from “looking at music from [their] own experiences and doing the best job possible.” The band continues to play by their own rules on their new record The Show. Opulent Temple DJ's Come To Tahoe for a benefit, Christina: The Epic Voyage To Black Rock City. Join Opulent Temple DJ's Jeff Taisch, DJ Dulce Vita, DJ Sentient, and Special Guest DJ Dan Saenz, along with the Tahoe Fire Dancers on Saturday, April 23 for an amazing night of music, dance, drink, entertainment, and BRC community support. 100% of all proceeds from this event will go toward Burning Man's 2010 Art Car Of The Year, "Christina". This NOTFOR-PROFIT event will be inside the MontBleu Theatre, which has been home to such DJ's as Tiësto, Paul Oakenfold, Kaskade, DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, BassNectar, and more. The evening will feature other surprise artists, dancers, videos/pictures from our camp(s). Donations are $20.00, and advanced purchase is highly recommended due to prior like-events selling out quickly. PRE’s Sports Division is proud to be involved with Telefutura’s Boxing Series. Nevada’s own Jesse Brinkley (25-6, 22 KOs) will take on Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (23-0, 17 KOs) for the I.B.O. USBO super-middleweight title fight set for April 29th, at the Reno Events Center. This will be an amazing match, and some great undercards for an excited night of boxing in Reno. This event will surely sell out, so jump on Ticketmaster and reserve great seats today. We will end of the month with a great night of hip-hop with J Pigg and The Hooliganz, along with special guests Papay and New York’s own, The Syndicate. This special event will take place in Blu nightclub on Saturday, April 30. Paul Oakenfold has been touted Paul Reder as one of the world’s leading DJ/ remixers by various outlets including CNN, Rolling Stone, BPM, Remix and more.. He commands audiences of well over 4,000 people each weekend at The Palms in Las Vegas as their resident DJ, and was on tour with Madonna all last year playing for over 20,000 people per show. He will be live at MontBleu on Friday, May 27, Memorial Weekend as part of worldwide fundraising efforts to save the rainforest. The Amazon Foundation (501c3) produces events around the globe to save earth's precious resource, the rain forest. The Amazon Foundation was established in 2009 to acquire and to preserve large tracts of the Amazon rainforest in their natural state in order to maintain its ecological function, biodiversity, and climatologic function and to protect the region's long-term ecological viability and to create global awareness for the cause via marketing campaigns and charitable events. Our #1 goal is to purchase pristine rain forest acreage and to leave this in its natural state for posterity. DJ Paul Oakenfold has graciously donated his time and resources to star in three world events.
