The Texas Limousin Association presented four $500
scholarships at the Texas Junior Limousin awards banquet
held Saturday night, June 5 at the Bryan County Expo
Center. The E.J. Bishop and Gene Rogers Memorial
Scholarships were founded many years ago by the

success of the associations. In later years, Marcy & Rusty
Perrin began donating scholarships in the memory of
Matt Ertl, a former TJLA member.
This year, the Texas Junior Limousin Association
awarded an additional scholarship that was made possible
by the success of this year’s Texas Limousin Field Day.
Tanner Schmidt of Grandview,

Stephenville, TX was
awarded the TJLA
Scholarship.
Shelbi Holdman of Sundown, TX

Limousin News & Notes
TLA Board Met June 5
A LETTER FROM THE
EXecutive Director
Hello Limousin Friends,
The old saying goes “time flies when you are having fun”, well we must be
having fun because this summer has really flown by. The Texas Junior Field
Day and Junior Nationals have come and gone and thoughts are now turning
to the fall sale season. Speaking of the Field Day and Junior Nationals, Texas
juniors surely made us proud. The state show was the largest in memory, and
very possibly the largest event of its kind in the nation. The quality of the
cattle was strong, and the young people exhibiting them proves our future is in
good hands.
Your board of directors met during the Field Day and heard
recommendations from TLA’s marketing committee regarding TLA Sales. The
committee, responding to members requests to eliminate the requirement
for bulls selling in TLA Sales to enter the gain test, recommended the rule be
changed.
The board voted to discontinue the requirement with the understanding sale
bulls would be weighed on arrival at sale and bulls not meeting all criteria in
current sale rules be removed from sale.
Also approved was the recommendation to change format of Houston Sale.

Instead of a conventional auction as in the past, the sale will be a “bid off sale”
held in the stalls during the Houston Livestock show.
This type of sale is used by many in the club calf industry and will lower the
cost to our consignors and hopefully generate some excitement for the sale.
Speaking of sales, the Heart of Texas Fall Sale will be held in West on
October 16. Selling will be bulls, bred cows, pairs, and Lone Star Shoot-Out
heifers. The Shoot-Out show was very successful this year with 25 head
returning to compete for $7500 in prize money. Please give us a call if you are
interested in consigning or buying.
In closing I would like to express my condolences to the families of Karen
Stolte, Kassidy Chapman, Roy Lee Fuhrmann, Ron Wayland, and Donna
Etherton. All members of the Limousin family who left us much too soon.
God Bless,
Ralph

The board of directors of the Texas Limousin Association met June 5 in Bryan, Texas
during the Texas Field Day and TJLA Show. Items of discussion included approving a budget
for the remainder of 2010, and revising TLA sale rules. Changes to sale rules are that bulls
will no longer be required to be entered in gain test prior to entry in TLA sales. The North
Central Texas College Beef
Evaluation Center will
continue to hold all breed
tests and TLA members
are welcome to develop
bulls with them if they so
desire. Rules governing
weight per day of age and
performance data will be
strictly enforced. Pending
approval by Houston Stock
Show officials, the format for
the Solid Foundations Sale
J.R. Brady, president; Jay Wilder, vice president; Ben Reading, treasurer;
in Houston will be changed. Lyle Keeton, secretary; Ralph Hawkins, executive secretary. Back - Jerry
Hudec, Rick Doty, Ed Kirby, Marcy Perrin, Brad Davis, ex-officio.
Watch for details.
HEART OF TEXAS SALE ENTRIES DUE SEPTEMBER 1
Entries for the TLA’s Heart of Texas Fall are due September 1. Entry forms will be mailed
in coming weeks. The sale will be held October 16 at the West Auction in West, Texas, and
will include bulls, pairs, bred females, open heifers and Lone Star Shoot-Out heifers. As noted
above, bulls will no longer be required to enter gain test, however they will be screened closely.
Sale season will be here before long, so begin preparing those sale candidates now.
National Junior Show returns to Amarillo in 2011
The 2011 National Junior Limousin Show & Congress and All-American Limousin Futurity
will be held in Amarillo, Texas, July 9-16. The Texas Limousin Association, however, will not
be hosting the event. NALJA will handle the hosting duties and do most of the work, but it
will rely on smaller state associations that cannot host a show on their own to step up and take
on certain aspects. For example, one state will be in charge of the opening ceremonies, while
another takes responsibility for the hospitality area.
Fundraising will be the major challenge. Various entities in Amarillo will help, but NALJA
will need a finance committee to oversee funding the show awards. Several states will have to
combine forces for that major committee.
Because no one submitted a bid to host the 2011 show, the boards decided to take that
approach rather than cancel it. NALJA and NALF will do the best they can to provide a
national junior show without a single host state.

been filled with many trials, but he has shown remarkable
courage and determination through it all. Linda found
a quote after Ron suffered the aortic dissection that has
given her solace this year. Ron was incredibly courageous.
“Courage does not mean the absence of fear; it means
choosing to live in the midst of it, and I marvel at the way
you are trying to live normal lives when the definition
of normal for you has changed”. Ronald Mac Wayland
was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma, June 9, 1946 to Harley
Raymond and Idora Virginia McIntosh Wayland. Ronnie,
as he was known to his friends and family, was raised
on the family farm southwest of Arnett and attended
school at Arnett. Ronnie was active during high school in
scouting, FFA, music and athletics. He was awarded the
God and Country Award as well as obtaining the rank
of Eagle Scout and was also a member of the National
FFA band. Ronnie graduated from Arnett High School
in 1964. He then went on to continue his education
at Northwestern Oklahoma State University earning a
degree with a major in Speech and a minor in Journalism
graduating in May of 1968. On February 23, 1962 Ronnie
began dating Linda Kay Bullard. This courtship led to
marriage on June 4, 1966 at the Methodist Church in
Arnett. Ronnie and Linda then established their home in
Alva. Following graduation from college Ronnie became
a District Scout Executive and they made their home in
Guthrie, Oklahoma. During this time the couple was
blessed with the birth of their first daughter, Ronna
Kay. The family then moved to Norman where they
were once again blessed with the birth of their youngest
daughter, Sherrill Lynn. In 1974 the family moved from
Moore, Oklahoma to Shattuck, Oklahoma where Ronnie
joined his father working on the family farm southwest
of Arnett. In July of 1988, Ronnie and Linda moved to
the family farm while Ronnie’s parents moved to the
family home in Shattuck. Ronnie continued to farm and
ranch until his untimely death. Ronnie was employed by
the Oklahoma Limousin Breeders Association (OLBA)
as Executive Secretary, Newman Memorial Hospital
as Foundation Director, and Arnett New Holland as
a Salesman during this time as well. Ronnie was an
active member of the Lions Club and Shattuck School
Board. He was also a 30 year member of the OLBA
where he received the Lifetime Achievement award in
2009. During the last several years Ronnie also enjoyed
following the Shattuck Indian football team by being
“first chair trumpet” in the Alumni Band. Church and
God have always been important to Ronnie. He was
baptized at a young age at the First Christian Church
in Shattuck where as an adult he served on the board as
both a Deacon and Elder. He also was active in the youth
program as a teacher and sponsor. Ronnie and Linda both
were active in the music programs of the church. Over
the last few years, they have enjoyed fellowship with the
First Christian Church of Shattuck as well as the Arnett
Church of Christ. His faith has been very instrumental
throughout his life as has been evidenced by the strength
he has shown through his recent illness. His hobbies
and interests included hunting, fishing, playing cards,
announcing rodeos and stock shows. He also enjoyed
guiding hunters and exhibiting cattle. His children and
grandchildren were always most important to him. As
his children were growing up the family enjoyed many
camping vacations over the United States and snow skiing
in the winter. Showing cattle and sheep with Ronna and
Sherrill were some very special times for all of them.
He enjoyed seeing his daughters in the ring with their
livestock projects. He was more proud of the girls than
any of the animals following behind. The sheep and cattle
may not have placed at all, but he was never disappointed
by his children’s performance. Linda waited in the
wings for it all to be over and was their biggest fan. This
tradition of father/daughter bonding became even more
important after his granddaughters entered the picture.
In the spring he enjoyed taking the granddaughters
to climb the Antelope Hills. This was a special time
of bonding with their granddad. After his illness and
retirement Granddad always looked forward to the girls
coming to the farm to baby sit Granddad for Grandma.
Caitlin drawing pictures and fixing lunch, Allison was
always ready to snuggle in front of the TV with Granddad
or play with the Tinker Toys. As for Samantha she was
up to anything Granddad suggested checking cattle or
just being with Granddad. In June all three girls enjoyed
a weekend at Roman Nose State Park, fishing and just
being with Granddad and Grandma. These are the
magical moments to cherish. Those preceding Ronnie
in death include his parents, Harley and Idora Wayland,
brother, Randy Wayland, and in-laws Cecil and Estella
Bullard. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda,
daughters Ronna Wayland of Yarbrough, Oklahoma,
Sherrill Wayland and Kim Kopff of St. Louis, Missouri,
granddaughters Samantha, Caitlin, and Allison daughters
of Ronna. Brother-in-law Roy Max Bullard of Shattuck,
OK, Sisters in-law Sharon Patton of Shattuck, Oklahoma
and Donna Poppe of Mountain Grove, Missouri, aunt
and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bob McIntosh of Shattuck,
Oklahoma and aunt, Mrs. Elva Sherrill of Stafford,
Kansas, numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host
of family and friends. The family has established the Ron
Wayland Ag Scholarship to be awarded to a deserving ag
student attending Shattuck High School. Working with
youth throughout the state for over 30 years in various
youth programs was always a priority, especially ag related
programs. Donations will be received by the Shattuck
National Bank, Box 39, Shattuck, OK 73858.

Foundation Females
Our program is built around an elite group of donor females that are designed to produce Lim-Flex
and purebred genetics that have the economic traits to be successful in the commercial industry, the
genetic power to perform for seedstock producers, and the eye appeal to be successful in the show
ring. The females pictured here anchor our donor herd and are proven producers. Look for progeny
from these power cows at upcoming sales and available privately throughout the year.
