Karaoke & Open Mic Monday, May 23; 7pm; Georgetown Parlor If you’re looking for something fun to do on a Monday night, you don’t want to miss this event. Last month we had a fabulous time. There was singing, tap dancing, and poetry readings. We finished the night with a group sing along that we hoped would never end. Jim Whitney has his karaoke all ready to go, so let’s bring some Monday night excitement to The Highlands! Open House Tuesday, May 24; 12-4pm; Campus Wide Let’s give a warm welcome to our guests and quite possibly your future neighbors! You will see lots of activity on this day as perspective residents tour The Highlands and see first hand what a wonderful community we have. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other better and enjoy some wine and cheese. We hope to see everyone for this terrific event. Field Day Thursday, May 26; 2pm; Behind Friendship Cove Warmer weather has arrived and summer will be here before we know it. What better way to celebrate then to have some great music, fun games, and summer treats. We may even have some friendly competition, just be sure not to get egg on your face. Lunch Outing & Moving Wall at Knox Museum Friday, May 27; 11am; Departing from the Lobby The Knox Museum will host the Vietnam Combat Veterans’ The Moving Wall, a halfscale replica of Maya Lin’s original design located on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Admission is free, and all are encouraged to attend. 13,000 people are expected to visit The Moving Wall over Memorial Day weekend. The Moving Wall has been touring the country for over 30 years, offering thousands who would never have the chance to get to Washington, DC, the opportunity to witness this important American monument. Your support in donations and sales was greatly appreciated. A special thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who helped so much; Pommy Hatfield, Linda Machacek, Jackie & Lee Mapletoft, Jan Faulstich, Barbara Pelley, Wanda Barlag, Liz Volckening, and Marilyn Crandlemire, for her beautiful jewelry display. Special thanks to Carol Wutzdorff who carted all the bags of unsold merchandise to Goodwill. Many thanks to the staff who came through with so much help when needed. Finally, thank you to Pat Aikens who worked tirelessly to ensure the sale was a success. 2 Memorial Day Parade! We Need You! This year The Highlands will participate in the Brunswick Topsham Memorial Day Parade. As part of our parade unit we would like to recognize the Residents of The Highlands who have served in the Armed Forces. Our banner will read, Honoring Veterans, Past, Present, and Future. Behind our Veteran’s we will have our second group of parade participants which will be made up of Residents and Staff. This Banner will say, The Highlands: Your Friends & Neighbors. We would love to have a huge showing of Residents and Staff participating and being an active part of this wonderful community event. If you can’t walk the parade route but want to participate, let us know and we’ll work to make this happen. If you don’t want to be in the parade, we will offer transportation to watch it. Please see Cristy Williams if you’re interested in participating in the parade. Below are key points regarding the parade: Parade Route is 2.5 miles long Parade Line Up begins at 7am 8:30, Observance at Topsham Town Hall 9:00, Parade begins, approximate duration if in the parade is 2 hours. Lobster Bakes Pure Love Pet Care Save the dates for our Annual Lobster Bakes! Tammy Lincoln is a licensed vet tech with 17 years experience and owner of PureLove Petcare, LLC. Pet sitting and dog walking business. Although she does not pet sit in our area, she is available for nail trimming on a regular basis, this will be on a 4-6 week interval. Please email her at [email protected], or call if necessary at 401-636-2388. Mention request from the Highlands and give info on your pet and address. Tammy is looking to schedule this service on a Saturday in the near future, but requires a minimum of 5 appointments to come. Nail Trims for cats are $20 and are done right in your home.
