August Newsletter
“ Wo r k i n g To g e t h e r f o r a B e t t e r B e r e a ” www.BereaChamber.com Back to School & Change August 2016 Newsletter August….a time for back to school preparations, and the unofficial end to summer. As the school buses begin to roam our roads again, colleges and dorms begin to fill, and sleepy headed children and young adults learn to transition back into busy academic schedules with extracurricular activities, homework, and chores or jobs, it would be wise for us to reflect on the importance that our youth play in futures. Membership Mtg. Sponsored & Hosted by Peoples Bank Chamber Coffee & Networking Meeting Sponsored & Hosted by Citizens Guaranty Bank Coupon Book Available 25 People File for Berea City Council Geocaching Weekend Coming In October Blood Drive at Saint Joseph Berea Sunday Brunch Coupon for Boone Tavern These young people will become our future leaders, future business owners, future developers, future doctors, future employees, future parents, and also our future Chamber members. It is the duty and commitment of each generation to mentor and encourage the next generation to excel and reach for new heights, develop new products, create innovative new ideas, believe that a positive and productive future is attainable, and most of all believe it is vital and admirable to work together. When we work in awe of the differences and talents each person has to offer, we learn to admire why we are all different, and acknowledge how those differences are valuable to all of our futures. Do you have a team member who is critical? Their strength is in identifying flaws and pointing out potential problems. Do you have a team member who never has a bad day? Their strength is in motivating and inspiring others. What about that team member who is always making excuses, or wants to get out of doing their work? They’ll usually be the ones to identify a faster way to complete a task….but, if they don’t respect the task, then we’ve taught them that specific task has no value. We should strive to redirect their mindset – because ALL work has value and purpose. If we can appreciate each other’s differences without impeding on each other’s differences, and model the behavior we want the next generation to value, then future generations will perceive opportunities for potential and success, not failure and loss. The future is always about changes, and learning to adapt to those changes is a recipe for success. Your Chamber of Commerce is no different. As many unexpected and unanticipated changes have taken place this year, we’re learning to adapt to them, and face the future with a sense of wonder, admiration, and a positive outlook. The past cannot be changed, and will absorb energy that could be redirected elsewhere, but the future is an unwritten book, yet to be published, with chapters we get write. The chapters are getting ready to get exciting – so be prepared for the publishing party!
