Qui nous sommes
Solution sensée voyait le jour en janvier 2003. De retour sur le marché du travail depuis peu, alors que j'occupais un
poste de réceptionniste dans une clinique privée d'ergothérapie, le personnel me demande un jour de confectionner
quelques équipements sensoriels qui, à l'époque, étaient presque introuvables au Québec. L'idée me séduit : non seulement
pourrais-je fabriquer et commercialiser du matériel indispensable, mais j'aurais en outre l'occasion d'exploiter mes talents
artistiques. Je fais alors appel à une amie couturière. Quelques mètres de tissu et deux ou trois patrons suffiront à
démarrer l'aventure. Sac de pois, hamac en lycra, tente cocon, gant de corps et Tortille la tortue se retrouvent aussitôt
sur le marché.
Je multiplie les formations et compte surtout sur les conseils d'une ergothérapeute chevronnée
— Annemarie Couture, spécialiste en troubles du traitement de l'information sensorielle — , dont
la générosité et l'expertise m'ont indéniablement permis d'acquérir les connaissances nécessaires à
l'élaboration de la gamme de produits que nous proposons aujourd'hui. Qui plus est, je suis désormais
mieux outillée pour aider mes trois fils à s'épanouir, chacun avec ses difficultés : hyperactivité, hypersensibilité, hyposensibilité et dyslexie.
Tous nos produits sont conçus et mis au point par nous, au Québec. Bien que le côté ludique
de ces produits les destine d'abord aux enfants, ils peuvent convenir aussi aux adolescents et aux
adultes de tous âges. Nos produits, pour la plupart proprioceptifs, sauront notamment satisfaire les
besoins de ceux présentant des troubles du traitement de l'information sensorielle, souvent observés
chez les personnes ayant un trouble envahissant du développement (TED), dont l'autisme, une
déficience intellectuelle, une déficience physique ou simplement l'hyperactivité. En fait, Solution sensée
met à la disposition de tous, avec ou sans diagnostic, des solutions sensorielles visant l'atteinte d'un
bien-être optimal.

Who we are
It all began in 2003 when I started working in a private O.T. clinic as a receptionist. At the time, sensory equipment was difficult to find in Québec.
The suggestion to start making some of those equipments was certainly of interest to me as it was both a new challenge and an opportunity to
use my artistic talent.The adventure started with a few patterns and a couple of meters of fabric, that soon became bean bags, lycra hammocks,
cocoon tents, body socks and Wiggly turtles, to form our first product range.
Several training sessions in sensory processing dysfunction and the advice of Annemarie Couture, an O.T. specialized in that field, certainly helped
me create the product line we now offer you. Not only did it give me the knowledge I needed to make safe and well adapted products, but it
has also helped me understand and help my three sons with their own difficulties: hyperactivity, hypersensitivity, hyposensitivity and dyslexia.
The products we sell are all made by Solution sensée here in Québec. Although a lot of our products are designed for children, they can
also be used by adolescents and adults of all ages. Sensory dysfunction, often seen in people with PDD such as autism, intellectual or physical
deficiency or simply hyperactivity, will benefit from them. In fact, we at Solution sensée wish that everyone, with or without diagnosis, could
benefit from the soothing and calming effect of our products, which are mainly proprioceptive. We could all seek simple and effective solutions
to help us get rid of our daily stress and tensions!

Formations
Solution sensée vous propose une gamme de produits sensoriels,
pour la plupart proprioceptifs. Ils doivent être utilisés avec
précaution, car ils peuvent ne pas convenir à certaines personnes.
Nous recommandons donc la supervision d'un adulte en tout
temps et, de préférence, l'apport d'un thérapeute qualifié afin de
maximiser tant leur efficacité que leur sécurité.

Entretien
Tous nos produits sont faciles d’entretien. Ils sont soit lavables, munis

Solution sensée's products are mostly proprioceptive and should be
used with care as they might not be suitable for everyone. They
should be used under an adult supervision at all times, preferably
with the assistance of a qualified therapist, in order to maximize both
their efficiency and security.
Care
All our products are easy to clean. They are either washable, have a
washable cover or are made from waterproof nylon.

Proprioceptive Equipment
Règles de base
pour l’utilisation de nos produits proprioceptifs
• Contrairement à l'idée répandue, il n'est pas recommandé de fonder le choix d'un équipement proprioceptif
sur la règle du 10 % du poids corporel (sauf pour la couverture lourde).
• Le choix du poids peut varier d'un individu à l'autre et devra tenir compte du poids corporel de l'utilisateur,
mais aussi de sa capacité musculaire et respiratoire, et de ses besoins et préférences.
• Le choix du poids peut varier selon la position dans laquelle l'utilisateur portera l'outil proprioceptif :
debout, assis ou couché.
• La superficie couverte par l'outil proprioceptif influencera votre choix : pour le même poids, une superficie
plus grande donnera l'impression de plus de légèreté.
• Pour en maximiser l'efficacité, on suggère de les utiliser de façon intermittente au cours de la journée, par
périodes pouvant varier de 20 à 45 minutes.
• On les utilisera avant et/ou durant l'activité nécessitant une disponibilité maximale, ou à tout moment pour aider la personne à
s'autoréguler, voire être calme et alerte (p. ex. : période de devoirs, travaux scolaires, heures des repas, routine du dodo).
• Il est impératif que l'utilisateur accepte, tant physiquement qu'émotionnellement, l'utilisation de ces équipements.
• L'utilisateur doit en tout temps être capable de retirer lui-même l'équipement proprioceptif, et ce, tant au niveau physique qu'émotionnel.
Est-il capable d'exprimer un refus ?
• Dans tous les cas, et particulièrement chez l'utilisateur à mobilité réduite, on retirera l'équipement proprioceptif au moindre signe d'inconfort.
• On veillera à pouvoir prendre les signes vitaux de l'utilisateur en tout temps.
• Les outils que nous vous proposons ne doivent en aucun cas servir de récompense ni de punition, le but premier étant la recherche
de bien-être et de réconfort.

Basic rules
for using our proprioceptive products
• Unlike what most people think, no proprioceptive equipment should be chosen based on the “10% of the body weight” rule (except for
the weighted blanket).
• Choose the weighted equipment according to the user's weight and physical condition, such as respiratory capacity, muscle tone,
needs and preferences.
• The chosen equipment should consider the position in wich it is being used: standing up, seated or lying down.
• You should consider the surface area to be covered: for an equal weight, a larger surface will provide a feeling of lightness.
• For best results, it is recommended to use the equipments for limited periods of time during the day, that is from 20 to 45 minutes at a time.
• They should be used before and/or during the activity that requires maximum awareness or at any time to help the user self-regulate
in order to reach a calm and alert state of mind (e.g. during homework or meal time, fine motor tasks or at bed time).
• It is crucial for the user to accept this type of equipment both physically and emotionally.
• Make sure the user is able to remove the equipment himself at all times (physically and emotionally, can he let you know?)
• Remove the weighted equipment as soon as you notice any discomfort from the user, more specifically if physically handicapped.
• Make sure vital signs can be monitored at all times.
• Our proprioceptive tools should never be used as a reward nor punishment, the objective being self-modulation and comfort.

Une ergothérapeute travaillant auprès d'enfants non voyants nous a demandé un tapis qui leur permettrait
d'expérimenter différentes textures, tant agréables qu'étonnantes. Nous avons ainsi créé un jeu géant

An occupational therapist working with blind children once asked us to make a carpet with different fabrics
so they could experience the feeling of fun as well as surprising textures. With that in mind, we developed
a giant textured game that can be used for tactile and proprioceptive activities. It is made of 9 squares

The Wriggly Turtle was designed by Caroline Di Cesare, as she was teaching hyperactive

“Easy homework” kit
Notre tout nouvel ensemble « Devoirs faciles » a été spécialement conçu pour les élèves du primaire.
Il les soutiendra à l'heure des devoirs et de tous travaux de motricité fine. L'outil essentiel à l'écriture,
le crayon, devient un outil proprioceptif apaisant qu'on dépose sur les épaules, tandis que la
gomme à effacer placée sur les genoux servira à la fois de coussin lourd et de tableau où l'on
affichera les pictogrammes conçus pour bien structurer la période de travail. L'enfant s'assoira
sur le coussin rond qui, en plus de l'aider à garder une bonne posture, lui procurera surtout le
micromouvement nécessaire pour demeurer éveillé et vigilant.

Our new “Easy Homework” kit has been developed for pupils from 6 to 12 years old. It will support
them during the homework and fine motor skills period. The basic tool to writing, the pencil, becomes
a soothing proprioceptive equipment worn on the shoulders while the eraser is placed on the thighs,
acting as a weighted cushion where pictograms designed to better structure the working period will be
affixed. The child will sit on the round cushion that will not only help him keep a good posture, but also
will create the micromovement that most of them need to stay alert.

Les produits chauffants de cette gamme sont faits de flanelle de coton biologique à 100 % exempte de teinture et remplis de graines
de lin également biologiques. Vous pouvez aussi bien les chauffer au four micro-ondes que les mettre au congélateur. Faciles d'entretien,
ils sont recouverts d'une housse amovible lavable. Ils vous apporteront bien-être et confort, et soigneront tous vos petits bobos.
Le temps de chauffe varie selon la grosseur du coussin et la puissance de votre micro-ondes. Retirez d'abord la housse, puis chauffez le
coussin par tranches de 30 secondes jusqu'à ce que vous obteniez le degré désiré. Prenez bien soin de ne pas trop les chauffer pour
éviter tout risque de brûlure et d'incendie.

Our organic heatable line of products are made of 100% organic cotton
flannel. Filled with organic flax seeds, they can be heated up in the microwave oven or placed in the freezer. The removable cover is easy to wash.
They will give you comfort and sooth your pain and sorrows.
The heating time will vary depending on the cushion size and the strength
of your microwave oven. Remove the cover and heat 30 seconds at a time
until desired temperature. To avoid burns and fire, do not overheat.
