State Fair Plays in !Tops-Down" Weather

The AAMA car show was located near one of the main entrances at the Palmer,
Alaska State Fair grounds. The main entrance thoroughfare was along the side
of the main pavilion at the upper right, so our display drew a large crowd of interested guests.
It didn’t rain on the 2009 Alaska
State Fair in Palmer. In fact, the parade and subsequent show at the fairgrounds took place under mostly clear
skies and shirtsleeve temperatures.
The event was characterized by
two slight changes. First, the parade
followed the customary route, but in
reverse, starting at the Pioneer Center
and ending near the Trouper station.

Truck at the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry’s Second Annual Truck Show held on 8 August
2009 in Wasilla, Alaska.
Plymouth, a Division of Chrysler,
built commercial vehicles as early as
1930; mostly delivery sedans based on
their Plymouth automobiles. In 1937
the PT-50 series was introduced as a
half-ton pick-up with a cab that was
very similar to their automobiles.
By 1939 when Bill’s truck, a
PT81, was build they no longer looked
like cars but very much like their
cousin, the ! Ton Dodge Pick-ups.
The last of the Plymouth trucks were
built in 1941.
When Bill got his truck 3 years
ago it had been sitting outdoors for

Second, the location of our car show
was next to one of the main entrances
at the fair, so we had lots of traffic and
interest.
LeRoi and Margaret Heaven
chaired the event and facilitated in the
parade staging and in reaching our
designated location for the car show at
the fair.

Running Board Reflections
We're closing out another summer
driving season in Southcentral and I
want to thank everyone for supplying
a great turn out at this year's events.
I'm sure we're all grateful mother nature cooperated with a little less rain
than last year.
We have just a couple events this
month: the final Adopt-A-Road on
September 12 and the Denali Park
tour on September 21 (if you're going,
Bruce should have already contacted
you).
It may seem early but the board is
discussing activities during the
Christmas party. We want to hear
from you, what would you like to see?
Some suggestions include the gift exchange as in previous years; a skit or
two, perhaps a skit competition between teams; a "slide show" of events
from the past year or so; some other
game or contest with a car theme.
These are all just ideas and we need
some further input. Come to a meeting and share your ideas, or contact
one of the board members.
While you're thinking about some
great activity for the Christmas party,
also be thinking of the club leadership

facility is maintained by Bob’s family and
is open by appointment. The facility was
our destination for the after-meeting
drive-around in August.

Dear Tom and Marcy,
We have moved from Anchorage
to Norwood, Missouri. We still enjoy
reading the Tinkering Times and
learning what all of you are doing
with your antique cars.
Our 1923 Nash made the journey
in a Conex and arrived here safely.
Only the loading and unloading were
adventures. She didn’t want to make
the trip, I guess, so she wouldn’t start
on moving day. It took six friends to
push her up the ramp into the Conex,
where Fritz carefully secured her
wheels for the journey. On this end,
we used a slant-bed to unload her.

engine was seized up.
Three years of effort by Bill,
NAPA Automotive Parts in Palmer
and John Glass to completely rebuild
the engine, restore and paint the body
have produced an award winner!
