The hikes passes through parts of Utterdalen Nature Reserve and Färna Eco-Park. www.farnashjarta.se 7 Hiking on Bruksleden – Trummelsberg to Ulvsbomuren (16 km) Ulvsbomuren is a perfect base for hiking on Bruksleden. This is a fairly easy walk on marked forest trail (Bruksleden). The landscape is varied; lakes and wetland, bogs and moors and deep forests. Fantastic wildlife, keep an eye out for moose and roedeer. There are wolfs and lynx in the area. Great opportunity for birdspotting, black grouse and capercaille and a variety of wetland birds. Transfer by car to your starting point. Then walk back to Ulvsbomuren where you can end your day with a wood fired sauna, a 3-course dinner and a comfortable bed for a good nights´ sleep. Map, compass, lunch and snacks to bring along can be included. – This walk comes highly recommended in the guidebook “Weekendvandra kring Stockholm” Gunnar Andersson/Calazo (Weekend walks around Stockholm). This is one example of several walks that can be arranged. There are possibilities to make both shorter and longer ones. www.ulvsbomuren.se 8 Fallängetorp – Stora Bjurfors – Stora Klingen – Klingholmen – Fallängetorp (16 km) The tour starts at Fallängetorp B & B. The first part of the trek goes along the village road into the forest and out to “odlingen”. “Odlingen” is 40 hectares of fields in the middle of the forest, and in summer time, there are often a lot of sheep to count while you walk by. The grassy road follows the fields and soon leads into the woods. Here you walk on the moss, and after a short while you come to Stora Bjurfors where you can see Lasjö. After a few hundred meters on the gravel road it is time to go into the forest and follow the forest road as far as it goes. Dark magical forest graduate to younger forest and part of the route leads past a cleared forest where grass and raspberries compete with spruce seedlings. The forest road reaches its end in Bjurmanstorp, an old mining area full of mines, most of them filled with water. Stora Klingen, a popular lake for birds during migration periods, lies north of the trail. The trail follows the gravel road past a few cottages and on to the narrow asphalt road towards Karbenning Church. Here the landscape is open and flowing, the terrain is hilly but the road is easy to walk on. Instead of going to the west towards the church, turn east and go down to ”Skvallertorget”. After walking up and down and crossing fields and farms for a few kilometers, the trail turns off from the small asphalt road into the woods. Initially, you follow a forest road then you need to look for the marking of the path which leads you besides fields and over a small bridge over Bjurforsån to Klingholmen. From here the trail goes on a forest road again and leads through the woods to an open area. A nice easy hiking path is waiting for the final section. Summertime this part of the trail is wonderfully lush and cows are grazing on the wetlands close to Bjurforsån. Forest frames the landscape in all directions, but the trail follows a gentle and lovely grassy road straight through the fields. Once you have gone over Bjurforsån for the second time, there’s only a short walk on the asphalt road before you see the sign to Fallängetorp B & B. Shorter versions also available. www.fallangetorp.se 7 8 9 9 One day hike on Bruksleden with Kolarbyn Eco Lodge (14 km) This package is a 1-day self-guided hike on the local hiking trail. The trail goes through large forests, past beautiful rivers and through terrain that is typical for this specific part of the country. An easy and peaceful hike in the Bergslagen historic environment. The trail is a total of 250 km long and divided into 27 stages. In this package you will hike along the beautiful stage 18. The hike along stage no 18 is basically only along forest paths, often through dense forest with young coniferous and deciduous trees. The exception is a short piece on a little road beyond the lake Dammen. This stretch is easy to walk, perfect for beginners. To get to the start at Borntorpet from Kolarbyn you hike about 2 km along a gravel road. Once at Borntorpet, the first kilometer of the hike goes along a jogging track. Shortly after crossing the second road you will come up on a small hill with a nice view. At the lake Dammen, the trail follows along the lakeside. A few kilometers further on, you reach the stage goal Lake Kolpen. Here is a shelter right down by the water – a perfect place to take a well deserved break. Difficulty: Easy www.kolarbyn.se 10 Skedvistrand (2-7 km) 10 At Skedvistrand there are three hiking trails, of varying length between 2 and 7 km. All the trails start and end at the front desk of Skedvi Strand Holiday Village. The trails are easy to walk, and mostly on gravel road. The longest of them is the most beautiful one. It goes through all types of forests and also over a small hill. When arriving at the top of the hill, there is a tower that is built of timber. It is an excellent place to spend the night. The tower fits for two people and can be booked through Skedvistrand. Two beds and a wood stove which ensures that it does not get cold at night. Outside on the ground there is also a barbecue area. The view from the tower often involve different animals such as moose, wolves and wild boar. www.skedvistrand.se 11 Hiking around the Black River Valley and Edens garden B&B (15 km) 11 Hike within ’The Black River Valley’ (Svartådalen) and stay in a beautifully renovated Swedish log cabin from the 17th century. This circulair hike is a part of a bigger hiking network within Svartådalen. Your start-, and finish point is at your accommodation ’The Old Cottage’ at Edens Garden B&B on the manor of Hällsjö Gård. You will hike over gravel roads with almost no traffic, hike along open meadows, a small lake called ’Rörbosjön’ with stunning birdlife, take a shortcut over a rural asphalt road and back ’home’ trough a dense forest. The length of this hike is 15 km. Once you are back at Edens Garden, you can take a warm relaxing bath in our hot tub filled with warm water from our own source! There are also possibilities to stretch out your route and hike all the way to the picturesque little village of Fläckebo and stay overnight at Klockargårdens B&B. A very interesting alternative is to book a canoe for the next day, visit the historic pavilion Braheholmen (anno 1560) and paddle your way back to Edens Garden B&B (Approximately 8 km’s). Svartådalen is internationally famous because of its birdand wildlife watching. Svartådalen’s wetlands are classified as internationally important for a number of migratory birds and is part of the EU network of valuable nature areas: Natura 2000, and is designated as a Ramsar site by the International Wetlands Convention. In the spring many different species of birds pass on their way north. Land and forest beside the lakes “Hällsjön”, “Rörbosjön”, “Fläckjön” and lake “Gussjön” are popular breeding grounds for these migratory birds. From the first ice melting until the first week of April 20000-25000 whooper swans pass through. Svartådalen is classified as an internationally important resting site for the whooper swans. www.edensgarden.se 12 12 Hiking at Bergslagsleden, 280 kilometers of opportunities Small or more challenging adventures await you at Bergslagsleden, the 280 kilometer long hiking trail in the heart of Sweden. Munkastigen is to some extent the path that the monks at the monastery Ramundeboda walked to maintain contact with his friars in the monasteries of Alvastra and Vadstena. The hiking trail runs along the edge of Kilsbergen before it turns south towards the forests of Tiveden. Eventually it reaches the shores of Lake Vättern and the final goal Birgitta church in Olshammar. You can choose between staying in everything from castles to huts along the trail. There are picnic areas with shelters where you can stay overnight or pitch your tent. At the rest areas you will find fireplace, wood and toilets. www.bergslagsleden.se 12 13 14 Day hiking with a historical touch In The Örebro region there are plenty of suitable hikes to do just for a day. And everywhere the trail leads, there is peace, beauty and variety. This stretch of the trail is part of the St. Olav’s Way that leads north to Trondheim and the Nidaros Cathedral. In the Middle Ages the cathedral attracted more pilgrims than any other in Northern Europe, and it is still an important site of pilgrimage. We can recommend day walks and short hikes in the whole region. The Østfold Way leads the walker past quiet forest lakes and fertile fields, along coastal paths and through parks. Just a little of what you will see along the Way: Fredriksten Fortress in Halden, historical churches, manor houses, Bronze Age sites and, not least, the Sarpsfossen waterfall beside whose torrent Saint Olav built Sarpsborg in 1016. Among other things, Akershus is known for its waving corn against a high sky. We recommend a visit to our capital city, Oslo, where one can also include visits to the Oslo Pilgrim Centre and Østre Aker Church. The Pilgrim Way passes the Eidsvoll Manor Farm, one of Norway’s most prestigious historical sites. It was here in the spring of 1814 that Norway’s democratic Constitution was written, the foundation of the nation’s independence. In Hedmark, the Pilgrim Way threads its path across a rolling inland landscape with wonderful views across Lake Mjøsa. And if your feet are getting tired, you can sail from Eidsvold to Hamar on “D.S. Skibladner”, the world’s oldest paddle steamer in scheduled service. In Hamar the Pilgrim Centre is situated on a historical site by the Pilgrim Way, and close to the ancient Hamar Cathedral, its ruins now encased in protective glass housing. Today, as in times past, it is an important site of pilgrimage. www.visitoslofjord.no/no/pilegrimsleden www.visit-hedmark.no/no/hamarregionen/artikler/ Pilegrimsleden/ www.akershus.com/no/pilegrimsleden/ 18 18 18 FACTS What do I need to consider before I travel and how do I get to Sweden?
