Mark and Luke recount the Ascension, each in his own way; and John consistently has Jesus speak of the necessity of his departure so the Paraclete might come. Ma hew situates his final scene for Jesus on top of a mountain in Galilee (not outside Jerusalem, as Luke does). This is the region where his mission originated, and throughout his Gospel the mountaintop has been the place for him to teach his followers. (We are familiar with the “Sermon on the Mount” from Ma hew.) And here Jesus re-echoes those Ascension themes we hear from the other evangelists: It is Jesus himself, risen and glorified, charged with power from the Father, who sends us out; it is Jesus himself who gives us our mission to bap ze, heal, teach, and proclaim the Good News of salva on; it is Jesus himself who will be with us always, as we con nue to be his presence alive in the world. This door has five locks, each requiring a key. As a believer in Christ, you have all the keys you need to be free” (Unbound, pg. 53) Deliverance is removing the power of the lies so that we can hear the voice of our Father that has always been speaking deep within. Knowing the Father through the Son is our place of deepest freedom: it is where broken humanity is healed. The “Unbound” book can be purchased in the church gift shop. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. By teaching “total body safety” we further efforts to stop child sexual abuse When teaching parents, stress that their child’s entire body is private and to be watchful of adults who might be “grooming” a child by constantly tickling, kissing, or hugging them. A child will often tell a parent he or she does not want to hug or kiss someone. Teach parents to listen to their children and respect their wishes! Stress to teens the importance of “total body safety” in their relationships with others. Tell them, “Just because a person is a close friend or even a girlfriend or boyfriend, that does not give them a right to touch you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable.” By teaching “total body safety” to adults, children, and young people, we are furthering our efforts to stop child sexual abuse and to make the world a safer place for all of God’s children. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article, “Beyond the myth of the bathing suit,” email: [email protected].
