Video Instructor, Jon Hudson
Multimedia in Focus Workshop is a fun and exciting camp
where the students learn how to
create various media arts with
professional tools and software.
The camp began this year on
June 11th and ended on July 20th.
The day usually began with
prayer. Being that we are a faith
based organization, prayer was
very essential. Afterwards Vision
Time began. This was a special
time for the campers to see professional work done by seasoned
pros, as well as hear how they got
their start and what they have
learned along the way.
Next, came the morning and
afternoon work session. This was
the time that the students used to
create their various projects.
In the interactive media class,
the students created web sites
1
using iWeb. The pages in the site
gave viewers a better understanding of who the campers were and
what they liked to do. They also
created a blog section where they
could comment on their day, the
projects completed, and what they
learned during the day. There was
also a project and photos page
that shows the photos taken during the photoshoot and the other
graphic and audio projects.
Campers also created their
own 3D environments. Some
chose to make home interiors
showcasing their house in the
future while others created city
blocks. All projects were created
with Google SketchUp and rendered as photos or animations.
PSAs, or Public Service Announcements, were also designed
in Adobe Photoshop showing
images and a message that the
youth felt compelled to speak out
about. They also used this program to create their own personal
logos with text and/or pictures
that would help represent them.
Garageband was the audio
program used to help the students
create their songs. With the help
of loops and MIDI keyboards, the
students composed their songs as
well as recorded lyrics to accompany them. Soundtrack Pro was
also used to compress the vocals
to bring out the best in them.
On the video side, there were a
lot of projects completed. Numerous commercials, PSAs, and
short films were created. Campers
started each project with storyboards drawn on paper to help
them better understand how the
footage should look through the

Daniel Miller
Channel 8
By Malachi Carter
Daniel Miller is a news anchor at
Wish TV in Indianapolis. He started
out as an Assignment Editor whose
job was to find stories for the news.
He had a lot of experience from his
mentor while he was in the south
searching for more experience. You
may recognize him as the first to
break the story of the Hamilton Avenue murders. You may also see him
on the news every weekend. Even
though he may face criticism and
stories that might get personal, Miller
still says, "It's not a hard job." He encourages the youth to take advantage of the fortunate things that go on
in their lives and make the right
choices for their benefits. " It's important to have a good attitude," he
says. Daniel Miller is a prime example of a person who loves his job and
enjoys what he does and encourages
others to do the same.
Jacob Leffler
MediaSauce
By Jahari Thompson
Jacob Leffler,
the Marketing
Director from
MediaSauce,
came to our
camp. He talked
to us about his
job duties - it
was very entertaining. He had
been in the media field for over
10 years and he
was one of the owners of MediaSauce. MediaSauce helps businesses advertise in innovative ways.
Let!s say you have a small business
and you want to sell your items to a
very prominent customer, Medi-
aSauce would help you in that field.
His presentation was very interesting
to me. He showed us his website and
some of the recent projects. He told
us that the website would be updated
within the month. If you would like to
visit the website you can go to

Steve Mitchell is a Photojournalist
who works for Environmental Protection Agency. Before Mr. Mitchell became a Photo Journalist, he had
been selling steel for over 20 years.
But 7 years ago a friend of his
asked him if he would be interested
in shooting a Fever's player. He happily accepted, because photography
had always been a hobby of his. His
career just skyrocketed from there.
He said "I have been unbelievablely
lucky in my job. It is the most unusual
way to become a photojournalist."
In his seven years as a photojournalist, he has shot over 500 music artists, including Nelly Furtado and Rihanna. He has also shot at different
Sporting Events, Celebrations, and
Concerts. Some of the events were
the Track and Field Championships,
the 2007 AFC Championship Game,
the celebration of the Colts Super
Bowl Victory on Monument Circle,
and even The Pit Crew Accident last
year with Sam Earnheart Jr. in the
Indy 500. He shot every Colts game
up to the Super Bowl game. On that
day he was assigned to shoot
pictures of people in Indianapolis
celebrating on Monument circle.
After an event he publishes all of his
photos on a website. He has even
had a few of his pictures go into
Sports Illustrated and in to the Indianapolis Star.

Angela Cain was a successful news
anchor in Dallas, Texas. Now she
works at Channel 13 as the Community Affairs Director. That means that
she lets people know about things
going on their community. She also
tells them how to get involved in such
activities. She is very skilled at talking, remaining calm under pressure,
and explaining to the
public what
they need to
know. Over
the duration
of her career
she has developed
many techniques concerning how
to look, talk,
and react to

do what she does. She has a very
deep and loving, passion for helping
kids respect themselves and others.

talks about how family issues and
domestic abuse takes place in the
home. It is an hour long special that
could potentially change you and
your family for ever. On a more per-
sonal level, Angela Cain loves to sing

way to get into college was getting
good grades and not getting ''D's''

Dave and Josh White came
to media camp to show the campers
some of their work and explain their
usual day-to-day business. DreamVi-

that were created from a 3D program. The PSA's dealt with underage drinking and smoking as
well as gun safety.

They explained that the work
they did was very fulfilling and that

Field Trips
Getting a closer look at the media industry
By Terika Bollen
On June, 13 2007 the Multimedia In Focus Camp took a
field trip to Channel 13. We learned about everything that
goes on in a TV news station. A lady named Younghee
Yedinke gave us a tour around the building. We learned
that there were a total of two hundred people working at
the station, and that 100 of the 200 people worked in the
news department. With five hundred hours of local news
every week, there are a lot of things that you have to
have in place. They have a separate sister station called
SkyTrak that shows different programming. They sometimes re-air programing from Channel 13 but also has
their own programming. We met graphics designers who
told us about After Effects, a software that they use, and
Photoshop to produce many of their motion graphics for
the news. Also we checked out the news room, where it
was very busy. There were computers everywhere, accompanied with news staff, producers, anchors, editors,
and photographers. We also had the chance to see the
conference room, where editors and producers went over
what would be shown in the news. Then last, but not
least, we met with Chris Wright, the weather person. He
briefly described everything in the weather station to us,
and answered our questions concerning the green
screen he stands in front of during the weather. He told
us that whenever it storms he has to go to work - even if
it was his day off.

for our future careers.
At Bennett Innovations, we met with
two men in different departments of the
company. The first man our group met
with was in the video editing field. His
job was to help produce and edit videos
for clients. We saw his work that ranged
from car dealership commercials, to advertisements for the Channel 8 news. He
explained some of the technology and
equipment and how he uses it to do his
job.
The second man we visited worked

music and song production area. I

Friday we went to Earshot Audio
Post. Earshot specialize in dialog replacement, foley and scoring for film and
radio and TV commercials. During the
Earshot studios field trip, I learned about
a lot of different machines and a lot
about other technology related things,
too.
Some of the things we learned about
were foley, which makes sounds such as
foots steps or opening doors. There was
also something called defusers that I was
very interested in. Defusers break up
sound to give music more of a warm
feeling. We also learned about condensers which use two charged plates so that
when you yell into it and when the plates
hit each other then distort.
The field trip was very fun and I
really enjoyed it.
Channel 8 WISH
By Jeremy Smith!
Today, we went to Channel 8. We
got a tour and saw how everything works.
The first cool thing we got to see was the
control room. That room had a whole
bunch of computers and TV screens of
all the news stations.
The next thing we saw was the
newsset, where we also saw the weather
station. There were robotic cameras that
filmed the news. They also used them to
projected the words so that the anchorman knew what to say. The anchors had
to put on makeup so they won't look too
bright on the set from the lights shining
on them.
The weatherman had to work on a
green colored screen. The cameras
could take the green colored screen and
put the forecast and staff on the screen
for the viewers. Now if the weatherman
wore green, all you would see is just is
head.
I thought the trip was cool and
worth going.
