AVNASH From the President’s Desk W hen a fun filled and activity filled month has ended, We "March"ed on in style and the efforts were rewarded with your appreciation and some brickbats too,but then it was a fulfilling month. The talk by Sri Amit Das Gupta, the former diplomat and author on TRANSFORMATIVE THINKING was well attended and the presence of the senior members was so heart warming. The Committee was also of the opinion that the expenditure is better spent on the members and so as the huge Mega Tambola on the day, prior to Ugadi. The response was overwhelming and we were frantically getting the chairs, tables and pads organized. Thank you Club members for such a lovely response. If there is any shortcoming, forgive us and we will do better next time around. The next day, in the true telugu tradition, we welcomed the new year with Ugadi Pacchadi and Panchanga Sravanam, followed by breakfast. That weekend was fun filled but tiring. The musical program by Dr Sharathchandra was to say the least-Melodious. It was glorious trip down memory lane, for all those who watched telugu movies of the 50s to the 70s and heard the legendary Ghantasala. The setting was perfect at Jubilee deck., a gentle breeze, friends , a little spirit and the mood was set .We are in fact lucky to have such an environment and it is my earnest desire that the Club members should participate in such programmes in greater numbers. The setting is awesome (as the younger generation would call it) and we are blessed to be members of a Club with such a green environment. This also reminds me that the tree plantation is almost complete and the results will be visible in a few months time and total greenery would be in full bloom in a few years. The hard work put in by the Hon Secretary is admirable and of course special thanks to the man with the greenest thumb that I know - Mr. Raja Babu of SUNRAY. He is a walking encyclopedia who of course works free for the Club. The culmination of the month was the Mela /Fun Carnival by the ladies committee, which again saw a record crowd in attendance and stalls with a variety of items in stock. Mrs.Vani Murali and her team also deserve a huge round of applause for the stupendous effort. This is what happens when the month is so fun filled and busy-you end up with long reports Yours in Service, Programmes for April – 2015 MEMBER HONOUR 1. 2. TALK BY AMIT DAS GUPTA - As a part of the ongoing programme to bring eminent people to talk in the club, we invited the noted author and diplomat Sri Amit Das Gupta, former Ambassador and Consul General to Australia as our guest speaker. He chose the topic-"Why we do what we do -The need for transformative thinking" which was closely related to his latest publication. In an interesting speech of over 45 minutes, Sri Amit traced the manner in which we are conditioned to think and of the need to adopt transformative or new thoughts. OBITUARY We regret to announce the sad demise of our Regular Member Mr.K.V.Ramprasad (R-116) on 17th March, 2015. May his soul rest in peace. FUN CARNIVAL HELD ON 29TH MARCH 2015 The FUN CARNIVAL activities started sometime in the mid-afternoon, with the excited and anxious stall owners and exhibitors, locating their allotted stalls and displaying their goods and some took time to decorate their stalls too. As the time neared for the carnival to be opened to our members and guests, the weather too decided to become pleasant and cooler. Once the place was ready in line with our ladies committee's vision, it was the perfect carnival setting. The jubilee ground was adorned with close to 100 stalls showcasing their goods ranging from clothes, jewellery, handicrafts, magic plants, different play rides for children, displays, our funny men on stilts, DJ playing his music, Candy floss, Pop corn, Mouth-watering food stalls, Game stalls by children, Parrot fortune teller .... The list is endless and it was PERFECT! The crowd walked into this fun ambience and thoroughly enjoyed by themselves, adults and children equally. This joy expressed by them made the ladies committee members even happier and our hard work and efforts had paid off. This tempo and fun activities continued late into the evening and ended with sumptuous dinner hosted by the Club. Vani Gannamani Chairperson Ladies Committee. UGADI EVE MUSICAL NITE SUPER BUMPER TAMBOLA The advent of the Manmadha Nama Samvastram was celebrated in a different style this year with a huge Bumper Tambola. Instead of spending money on musical programmes, dances, etc, it was decided to give better and greater prizes of about Rs 4 lakhs to the Club members only. The entire focus was on the members. Sponsorships were obtained from VAIBHAV JEWELLERS and every prize was given in gold only. The second prize was a VESPA Scooter sponsored by ORA MOTORS. The record crowd stretched the facilities to the limit, but then we managed to finish the Tambola in style, without too many hiccups. The Super Bumper prize of 50 Grams Gold was won by Mrs.Indubala Gupta, W/o.Ashok Kumar Gupta (A-78), while the scooter was won by Mr.Ch. Indraneel(I-15 ) On behalf of the Club Committee, we thank all the members whose participation made the event a memorable one. After the resounding success of Lamhe, the evening of Hindi melodies, it was decided to have an evening of Telugu songs of the GANA GANDHARVA of TELUGU -Sri GHANTASALA VENKATESWARA RAO. After a long search, we narrowed down on Dr.Sharathchandra Tamada, who is a renowned singer of this genre of songs. The setting was perfect at the Jubilee Deck with a good breeze flowing and true to his belief, Dr.Sharathchandra Tamada took everyone down memory lane with his wonderful renditions of the classics sung by the maestro himself. For those who missed the evening, it was something to rue about and for those who attended the evening, it was a sure trip down memory lane. Sri Rama Taraka Yagnam was held at Auditorium on the appearance Day of Sri Rama Navami on 28th March, 2015 and Kirtan, Nama-Ramayana Bhajan was performed. Prasadam and Lunch was served to our Club devotees. Total 50 couples have attended the Yagnam, which was well conducted by Akshaya Patra Foundation, Visakhapatnam.
