The Telugu people have inherited a great cultural tradition from the various
dynasties that ruled the State of Andhra Pradesh, right from the Sathavahanas,
Ikshvakus, Pallavas, Chalukyas, Kakatiyas, Vijayanagaram kings, Qutub
Shahis, Mughals, to the Asaf Jahis. All have contributed significantly to the
State’s rich cultural tapestry and have left behind a heritage studded with
spectacular monuments, temples, mosques, palaces all vibrant with arts,
crafts, dance and literature.

The Patrons of the WTF Cultural and Heritage Charitable Trust had a vision
to Recreate History, preserve, and pass it on to the future generations just
to ensure that we don’t loose our cultural heritage in the present day chaos,
and retain much of our regal glory and mystic charm, in collaboration with
Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA), Andhra Pradesh.
Thus the Telugu Heritage Museum was born and it narrates the glorious past
with Murals, Sculptures, Paintings, Sound and light.

Saathavahana
TThe Andhra Kingdom was founded by Shree Mukhudu of Saathavahana
cclan in 3rd century B.C. The prominent Emperor Haala was a poet himself
aand complied 700 verses recited by other poets who visited his court in
Prakrit language and called the collection “Gaadhaasaptasathi”.

Saathavahanas
- Kotilingala coins
Coins minted out of silver, lead, potin, copper, brass were found in Kotalingala

oof Karimnagar District. Some of them have letters engraved on them while
oothers have punch marks. The rulers of Kotalingala released these coins.

Kakathiya
Architecture ( 13th Century )
TThe Thousand Pillar Temple and the Ramappa Temple are the fine examples
oof Andhra Architecture in the whole of south India and is still a wonder and
research subject for the present day Architects.

Ajanta
Paintings in the caves mirror the talents and mastery of Andhra
ppainters of yesteryears. The Artists were promoted and patronized by the
Sathavahana Kings. The natural colours and pigments used portrays the

gglorious history of the past.
Rani Rudrama Devi
Rudrama, the brave daughter of Ganapatideva, ruled the kingdom from AD
11262-1291, Subdued vassals who revolted against her and was the beloved
Queen of the people since she was always concerned about their welfare.

Padakavitha Pithamaha Tallapaka Annamacharya
was a staunch devotee of Tirumala Sree Venkateswara Swami. He was one

oof the Trinity who were the originators of Carnatic music and the first Telugu
Saint Poet. He compiled 32000 devotional songs praising lord Venkateshwara

aand was also instrumental in converting the folk tunes that swelled in the
vvillage songs into Classic Carnatic music.
Krishnadevaraya’s Court
TThe greatest of the Vijayanagara rulers, Sree Krishna Devaraya belonged to
the Tuluva Dynasty and that era was the golden period of Telugu Literature,
th
Art and Culture. Bhuvanavijayam was the name of his court where his eight

ccourt poets (ashta diggajas) and other noted scholars assembled to discuss
FFine Art, Literature and Culture.
First Andhra Poetess Molla
Molla the daughter of Aatukuri Kesana, a devotee of Lord Shiva was a great

ppoetess. Though she had no formal education in Telugu Literature, she
ccomposed Ramayana at the behest of Sriramachandra. Being a woman and
a non Bhramin, she occupies a special place in Telugu Literature. She was
ssaid to belong to the times of Sri Krishnadevaraya.( AD 1509 – 1530)
Y Vemana was born in AD 1652 at Mugachintapalle in Nellore Mandal and

ddecided to follow the path of Lambika Sivayogi and travelled all over south
India to rid the society of rot and reform it. He was a people’s poet and a

worldly wise Philosopher. He composed his Telugu poems in Ataveladi meter.

Thanjavur Nayakas (16-17 AD)
TThe Vijayanagara Kings allowed Madurai and Thanjavur to be ruled by the
Nayaks whose mother tounge was Telugu, as their representatives. Raghunadha

Nayak was more prominent among Thanjavur Nayak Kings and he was a great

sscholar in Music and Literature as well. Raghunadha Mela Veena was his artistic
invention and he also composed poetries describing the story of Valmiki.

Qutub
Shahi Dynasty
TThe Qutub Shahis Ruled Andhra country for two hundred years. They admired
Telugu language and culture and Patronized Telugu Poets. Mohammed Quli
Te
Qutubsha built the city of Hyderabad.
