Report on Flood Relief Fund Raising Music Program for
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka
Telugu Association of San Antonio (TASA) and Kuvempu Kannada Sangha,
San Antonio, successfully organized a music program on November 14,
2009 to raise funds for reconstruction projects in flood-affected areas of
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This program was co-sponsored by India
Association of San Antonio (IASA) and Hindu Temple of San Antonio
(HTSA).
The highlight of this program was the rendering of memorable songs in
Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages from old and new
movies. Smt. RajaRajeswari Kalaga from Vagdevi School of Music, Houston, coordinated the music program. Saji Pullad, who also came from
Houston, sang songs in Tamil and Malayalam. The upcoming young Telugu
pop music singer, Raghuram entertained one and all, especially the youth
with well-known hit songs from his album “Raghuram”. Veena Prasad from
San Antonio delighted the audience with few old Kannada songs. Old
Hindi song lovers in the audience enjoyed the sweet melodies of yesteryears presented by Sujata Venkateswar and Bhavesh Shah.
Mr. Madhav Rao Govindaraju, President of TASA, stressed the critical
need for funds to carry out the reconstruction projects both in Andhra
Pradesh and Karnataka. Mr. Govindaraju outlined TASA’s continued efforts in finding suitable non-government agencies (NGOs) for teaming up
in utilizing the funds judiciously. Appreciation plaques were presented to
all artists. The program ended with a vote of thanks from K.V. Prasad,
Secretary of TASA. A total of $7,000 was raised during the program.
TASA informed the audience that on-line donations would be accepted
until the end of December, 2009.
TASA gratefully acknowledges and thanks the support
of Rajani and Srinivas Reddy Karla, sponsors of this
issue of TASA Newsletter.
