WHAT IKEA`S STANDARD 10` x 10` KITCHEN PRICE
WHAT IKEA’S STANDARD 10’ x 10’ KITCHEN PRICE DOESN’T TELL YOU A Publication of Inspired Kitchen Design IKEA cabinets are very practical and IKEA is the only major retailer to offer a quick price for each and every door style (The door style and kitchen measurements are the first things that professional designers ask the homeowner when embarking on a kitchen renovation). IKEA also offers a swift quote for a standard kitchen measurement. These prices are deeply flawed, though, because they refer to a 10’ x 10’ standard kitchen layout and who really knows what that is? Even if you did determine how a standard 10’ x 10’ kitchen was designed and calculated, it’s not really relevant because your kitchen design will be completely different. Every kitchen is unique and therefore, your kitchen measurements are unique. Many retailers and cabinet manufacturers use the 10’ x 10’ standard kitchen measurements because they haven’t taken the initiative or effort to compare the linear feet (LF) to the final price for a range of actual designs. This is a shame because correctly calculating non-standard kitchen measurements, as IKDO carefully does, is the only accurate method to determine real-life linear feet pricing. If you want to get a quick and approximate idea of what your IKEA kitchen cabinets will cost, then you will need accurate linear foot pricing – not abstract 10’ x 10’ standard kitchen pricing models that will most likely not fit into your kitchen. Every kitchen is unique! IKDO has professionally designed thousands of IKEA kitchens for North American homeowners and has determined precise linear feet pricing using the following criteria: • 125 designs were randomly selected for each unique door style • A total of 2,125 designs were averaged (17 door styles x 125 designs per style). • Not a single one happened to be a 10’ x 10’ kitchen with IKEA’s standard layout. • Designs were selected from 2012 and 2013, therefore these layouts are current. • Of the 125 designs per style, the five most and least expensive designs were eliminated from the sampling for a better statistical average. • Islands and peninsulas were included. • Measurements were taken from corner to corner, covering the kitchen from top to bottom. • The price used in the average includes wall, base and tall cabinets. • Knobs and handles were not included. Why are IKDO linear feet prices higher than IKEA’s? None of the kitchens that we averaged were a 10’ x 10’ standard kitchen size! Real-life kitchens cost more. Our actual customer designs included storage accessories, moldings, glass doors, wall, tall and base cabinets and countless other different layouts. IKDO “covers our bases”! 2. If IKEA shows an equal linear feet price for several door styles, then why are IKDO linear feet prices different for each door style? • Some kitchens are designed with accent doors. Combining door styles does change a “standard” price. The standard IKEA prices are often not realistic. • IKDO’s one-on-one personalized designs provide countless “extra” items that IKEA does not provide: multi-sized cabinets, moldings, glass doors, as well as a variety of different and innovative layout plans. • Typically, islands and peninsulas include additional panels, doors and trims. These have also been taken into consideration for the total prices used in the linear feet average for each door style. 3. Examples of the types of designs used for our LF averages can be seen at our design portfolio, which is easily accessible on our website: www.inspiredkitchendesign.com/portfolio Now that you understand IKDO’s linear feet prices and how they are determined, you’ll need to know how to roughly calculate the linear feet of cabinets for your new kitchen: • Measure the entire wall where cabinets are to be designed and determine the total amount of inches. • Subtract the door openings, as well as all appliances mounted on the floor from the total linear inches. (Average widths:door: 36”, Refrigerator: 36”, range: 30”). • Divide the remaining total by 12 to convert from linear inches to linear feet. • Multiply the amount of linear feet by the amount in dollars (US$) for your selected door style from the chart above to get an approximate total cost of IKEA cabinets for your remodeled kitchen. • Example: A 22 linear feet in LIDINGO doors ($191.74 per linear foot) will be 22x191.74 = $4,218.28 Measure the entire wall where cabinets are to be designed and determine the total amount of inches. Using these steps will help you understand just how far you can go with your budget! You will also save a tremendous amount of time, energy, and money by understanding that most standard kitchen layouts are not 10’ by 10’. This is where IKEA “steps out” and our professional designers at IKDO “step up” for the homeowner who wants an efficientlydesigned kitchen. You know how it is.
