Special Event Grant – Clearview Minor Hockey Association
RECOMMENDATION(S):
That the Regional Board approve a special event grant of $3,500 to the Clearview Minor
Hockey Association for the purpose of hosting the Female Bantam Championships in March
2014.
BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:
The Clearview Minor Hockey Association will be hosting the Female Bantam Provincial
Championships this coming March in Fort St John. In doing so, they are seeking a $3,500
grant from the Board to assist with the costs of the event and specifically the ice rental costs
(approximately $5,000). In the past the Regional District has provided a grant of $3,500 to
$5,000 from this function for similar events. Please note that at the January 16, 2014 Rural
Budgets Administration Committee meeting a Fair Share grant of $1,500 from Electoral Area
‘B’ was also awarded to the Clearview Minor Hockey Association for this event.
This event meets the criteria for funding under the Grants to Community Organizations –
Special Event policy statement.
The Clearview Minor Hockey Association is a non-profit society in good standing with the
Province of BC.
STRATEGIC PLAN RELEVANCE: none
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATION(S): $11,000 is budgeted and currently remains in the 2014
Grants to Community Organizations budget for special event grants. Please note that there
are two special event grant applications pending (Clearview and Tomslake) and if both are
awarded then $2,500 will remain for the year.
COMMUNICATIONS CONSIDERATION(S): The Regional District will work with the Hockey
Association to ensure that the Board is recognized for its contribution to the event as per the
sponsorship guidelines provided by the group.
