LABOUR PAINS A mom sat with her three oldest children and watched a TV special showing the birth of a baby. The mom thought it would be a good starting point for answering questions about the facts of life. As her five-year-old studied the baby coming out of the birth canal, he asked, "Mom, does that hurt?" "Oh, yes, it does," she said, remembering her difficult deliveries. "Wow," he continued in awe, "does it hurt the mother too?" Page 9 Typo Seen in a Real Estate Listing: "Three bedroom one bath fireplace." (Big fireplace!) Submitted by Jennifer Cormier On Saturday, February 2nd at 7:30pm The Bert Church Theatre is proud to present one of the finest and most critically acclaimed musicians ever to come out of Canada. He has entertained millions of people both here and abroad. Rik Emmett (formerly of Triumph) will be here along with colleague Dave Dunlop to promote their most recently released Strung-Out Troubadours CD. Rik has over 10 gold albums to his credit (10 with Triumph, 1 Solo), 4 of which went Platinum in Canada. He was recently awarded the 2005 Canadian Smooth Jazz Award for Best Guitarist and also inducted into the Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his former Triumph band mates. Multiple Juno Award nominee and winner of Best Guitarist at the Junos in 1981, Rik Emmett is one of the international music industry’s most accomplished guitar players. Featuring remarkable proficiency in several genres of music including rock, jazz, blues and even some flamenco, this is your opportunity to experience a true legend-in-the-making. In 1990, Dave Dunlop became a faculty member at the National Summer Guitar Workshop, a U.S.-based school starting up a satellite program in Toronto. While teaching at the Workshop, Dave met and jammed with Canadian Hall of Fame legend Rik Emmett, and became a regular member of his touring band. Dave Dunlop’s working relationship with Rik Emmett grew to (Continued on page 11) “Diligence is the mother of good fortune.” - Cervantes Page 10 (Continued from page 10) the point that they released a duo project together, called “Strung-Out Troubadours”. The strength of the duo’s chemistry led to their winning 'Album of the Year' and 'Best Group/Duo' at the 2007 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, where they were the most heavily-nominated act. Each of the “Troubs” was also up for "Best Guitarist". Dave and Rik continue to tour on the strength of that CD, but far from resting on their laurels, their follow-up release has just hit the market, entitled “Live at Hugh’s Room” showcasing the acoustic duo in a magical evening captured just before Christmas 2006 at the fabled “Hugh’s Room” in Toronto. On the live front, Rik and Dave are veterans of the stage. Their charm and down to earth friendliness help to make this a truely entertaining and memorable show. Tickets are selling quickly. Where else could you see this kind of talent for $24 for adults and $20 for students and seniors? Our local ticket outlets include Music Centre Canada, Page and Turner’s Bookstore, Air-Alta Insurance, and the Rockyview IDA in Crossfield.
