Since that claim was made, the United Soybean Board's (USB) annual report the Consumer Health Tracking Study, funded by the soybean checkoff, has shown a 39 percent increase in the awareness of the health benefits of soy. (Www.kysoy.org) The Kentucky Soybean Board would like to remind you to … BURN THE BEAN! THE LEADING EDGE IN CONCERT AND RACING PROMOTIONS www.gowrpm.com 2008 Upcoming Events Western Kentucky State Fair Hopkinsville, KY July 4th & 5th 7:00 pm 6, 8, 10, SF, 4, P4 The fair is in town and it’s the 4th of July!!! Come spend some time with the Mid-South Pullers Association at the Fair on the 4th of July weekend. The Western Kentucky State Fair, located in Hopkinsville, KY, will be hosting a 2-day event on July 4th and 5th. There's nothing like taking in a few rides and sampling some of the fair food. Then to top it off, get a seat in the grand stands and watch a great pull. The fair pull has been an annual event in Hopkinsville for many years. For those that have never been to the fair pull you can get there from I-24 by turning on HWY 68 or HWY 41A. Hopkinsville has always drawn in great competition so you don't want to miss this pull. You may very well see some Grand National pullers make there way in. The Hoptown area is home to many pulling families such as David Folz, Jon Hancock, Darrin & Brandon Hunt, Rob Bonino, and the late Ronald & David Berry. Paris, TN July 12th 7:00 pm 6, 8, 10, SF, 2, 4 The Mid-South Pullers Association is headed to Paris! On Saturday, July 12th, the MSPA invades the Henry County Fairgrounds located in Paris, TN for the 16th annual "Volunteer Fire Department Championships". This pull benefits Cottage Grove, Whitlock, Jones Mills, and the Airport volunteer fire departments. Paris, along with Henry County, is rich in traditions. One tradition is the World's Biggest Fish Fry which is held every year, in Paris, the last full week of April. While in Paris do what the French would do and visit the Eiffel tower. Yes, the Eiffel tower is in Paris, TN. It's a scaled down model but it's there. The rich tradition in Paris spills over to pulling. Paris has its hand deep into the history of pulling with Sonny & Randy Crutcher, and current pullers such as John Smith & Jerry Stewart. Temple Hill, KY July 18th 7:00 pm CST 6, 8, 10, SF, 4, P4 (8SS no points) The Mid-South Pullers Association heads to Temple Hill, Kentucky for the Temple Hill Lions Club “Mega Pull”. On Friday night, July 18th, the sounds or roaring motors accompanied with the smell of alcohol and diesel will fill the air when the Mid-South Pullers Association invades Temple Hill, Kentucky for one night of pulling action. Come out and feel the raw horsepower right down to your toes! Also, come out and support local puller Randy Payne & Guesswork. Bardstown, KY July 19th 7:30 pm EST 6, 8, SF, 4, P4, SMT (8SS no points) The Mid-South Pullers Association is headed to the Eastern time zone to “My Old Kentucky Home”! And that's located in Bardstown, Kentucky. On Saturday night, July 19th, the Nelson County Fair will be filled with the smell of food, the sounds of happy fairgoers, and the roar of a truck and tractor pull. There could very well be a battle on the track that could be a mild reenactment of a Civil War battle. Well, how about a North vs. South battle. Bardstown has more history in pulling also. It is home to Mike Wilhite and Jimmy Mattingly to name a few. Tanner, AL July 25th & 26th 7:00 pm 6, 8, 10, SF, 2, 4, P4 The Mid-South Pullers Association's is headed to Tanner, Alabama for some more Alabama clay. On July 25th and 26th, the Tanner High School Quarterback Club will be hosting their 32st annual “Alabama Championships” truck and tractor pull. The event will take place at 7:00 pm sharp each night at Tanner High School behind the football field. Tanner was the co-winner of the 2007 2-day pull of the year and has won the award many times in the past so expect nothing but the best. The Tanner area is also home to many pullers such as Keith & Shirley Haney, Louis & Leon Haney, Tommy Williamson, and Darrell Norman (just to name a few). 2008 Event Pictures Upper left: Brad Ferrell takes the new Tremor truck down the track in Lexington. Lexington, AL - June 6th On June 6th & 7th the Mid-South Pullers Association headed to Lexington, Alabama for the 30th annual "Heart of Dixie" truck and tractor pull. Friday night the conditions were hot and dry and the pits were full of vehicles and fans. The PSFWD class was the first to hit the Alabama dirt and hometown puller Denny Ritter was going to give his best. The Fire Pro sponsored DangerZONE laid down a pass of 274.23'. Denny Allen and his Ford F250 was next and Allen stretched the mark out to 282.93' which was good enough for third. The Silver Bullet driven by Jason Lee shot straight down the track and into the lead with a pull of 286.00'. Brad Fowler was the last hook and could he knock of Jason Lee? The Eliminator Ford built a great head of steam but when the dust settled he came up short with a distance of 285.26' and settled for second. The second class of the night was the 6,000# Super Stock tractors. Cody Haney was test hook and he lit the tires up on J.R. as he made the initial run of 279.04'. Head's Up was up next and Don Head headed down the track and out the gate for a full pull. Louis Haney got everything right on Cujo and made a great pass out to 295.38' good enough for third place. Last hook of the night went to Bob Barbee. Stormy had to go the distance to force a pull-off. Bob didn't disappoint as he piloted the big New Holland down the track for a full pull. There was an agreement to split instead of having a pull-off. Up next was the Open FWD trucks. Test hook went to Jerrett Curtis and his Pop Tart Monkey. The Pop Tart Monkey became a wild ape and went on a tear and tore out to a distance of 296.31'. Sandy Bugg hit the track and set the mark to beat at 307.66' in Black Magic. Randy McConnell pulled his newly built "Yellow Fever" out to 291.04 that was good enough for fourth. Shane Greer hooked late in the class and had a chance for the win. Super Chevy make a good pass but fell short of the leaders and had to settle for third with a distance of 292.86'. There was a full pull party going on in the Super Farm class. Jed Pettus, Cranford Jennings, Kelly Keith, Jared Bradley, and Larry Dean all took Sam Swann's Southern Impact the full distance. In the pull-off Jed Pettus was up first in the pull-off and the Dixie Deere set the mark at 326.82'. Bare Bones Binder, driven by Cranford Jennings, was hoping to add victory over the Dixie Deere but came up short at 205.94 placing him in third. Kelly Keith has engine troubles that cut his run short at 162.91. Jared Bradley experienced engine troubles also that kept he out of the pull-off. Last hook went to Larry Dean and The Ride. Larry had a great hook but the ride was about 13'short of the leader and he finished second with a distance of 313.49. Wesley Foster was the test hook in the TWD class. The Barbwire Dodge was hooked and was headed toward the state line and finished with a pull over 350'. The sled was reset after that picture perfect run and Wesley would come back last. Keith Slayden followed Foster and set the mark at 288.57'. The rest of the class tried their best to knock of Keith and his American Made truck. The Bad Boy dodge drive by Will Teasley made a strong run but it ended too early at 278.91'. Will had to settle for fourth. Larry Douthit made a strong pass with Papa Bear that was good enough for third at 286.73'. It came down to the last hook and the Barbwire Dodge was up for the task. Wesley repeated the picture perfect run again and got the win with a winning distance of 291.39'. The 8,000# Super Stock tractors were the last class of the night. John Orndorff started the class off driving Bob Barbee's Stormy. John made a good pass out to 280.28'. The 280' mark got crowded with Monica Shaw and Ryan Henley taking their rides out to 280.39' & 280.47' respectively. Ray Haggard was aboard Gus's Toy and had a good run but never got the RPM's where they need to be. Ray's run put him on top of the pack with a pull of 292.33'. He just needed to survive three more hooks. Marty Chandler and Leon Haney both fell back in the field but Randy Head was waiting in the wings for his turn. Randy made a very impressive run out to 301.09' that dropped Gus's Toy down to second. A fuel leak at the end of Randy's run added to the excitement of the first place run. Friday night was a hot and so was the action. If you've never been to Lexington you should put it on your schedule for next year. Congratulation to all the winners from Friday night. For full results from both Friday and Saturday night check out the results page on our website. Wilber’s Winners... Springfield, Tennessee - June 28th On June 28th the Robertson County Fair board held their annual Summer Nationals in Springfield, Tennessee. Mike Baggett and the rest of the board members do an excellent job in this pull and the pull during the fair. This hard work pays off to our pullers and the fans. The Robertson County Fair pull has been name the 1-day pull of the year numerous times. The night started off with the 6,000# PSFWD trucks. Denny Ritter was test hook and took DangerZONE down to track 269.02'. The officials determined that the sled was set correctly and the sled was official. Denny Allen and his Ford F250 that Johnny Malone as nicknamed "Lightning Strike" was up next. The Ford F250 managed to get out to 274.45' which was good enough for third place. Jerry McKinney was up next in Code Blue. I think that Jerry has been to the Chitwood driving school after seeing his pass in Hazel Green. This time Code Blue keeps all the tires on the track an pulls 275.62' and into the lead. Last hook of the night goes to Brad Fowler. The Eliminator Ford is up to the task and finished with a distance of 276.62' and drops Jerry McKinney into second. Larry Douthit was first hook in the 6,200# TWD truck class. Larry rolled Papa Bear out a good distance before hammering the throttle. Papa Bear finished with a distance of 282.48' which was good enough for seventh place. I heard Larry say later he wished he twisted the throttle a little earlier and harder. Mark Ford has some real good runs with the new good looking and good running Tremor truck. Tonight he stretched the mark and put it out in front with a pull of 302.55'. Brad Ferrell was hoping to knock off the Tremor truck with Southern Rage. He fell a little short with a run of 297.78' and settled for third. Jacob Fuqua was playing the role of hired gun and spoiler as he got to drive the HyTek. The last hook worked for Brad Fowler and it worked for Jacob as he took first with a pull of 302.69' dropping Tremor to second. The first shall be last and the last shall be first. Would this hold true in the 6,000# Super Stock. Larry Phillips was first and blew it out the end (350'+). He would drop to last... Mike Wilhite was up in Blue Blazes and made a good pass out to 282.29 that would put him in fourth. Kevin Essary hitched up Evening Thunder and thundered past Wilhite with a pass of 288.87'. Bob Barbee had Stormy hitting on all cylinders and pulled towards the 300' mark. When the dust settled he was out to 298.77. Larry Phillips was up last. Could he make it three for three on the last hook of the class? The alcohol powered Insanity made a picture perfect full pull for the victory. The 9,300# Super Farm class was exciting as always but had extra excitement when Jared Bradley broke something in the steering of Tennessee Red leaving him helpless and along for the ride (which resulted in a DQ). Josh Mile, one of the "Big Dogs", came down to play in Springfield. The High Mainten$e Case IH took fifth with a pull of 292.64. Kelly Keith took forth with Plan "B" on a pull of 292.99. Cranford Jennings pulled into third when he took the Bare Bones Binder on a run of 295.53'. The class was down to two green ones. Russell Counce powered down the track and into the lead with a pull of 303.95. The last hook belonged to Jon Hancock. Could he make it four in a row on the last hook winning? Unfortunately for Jon Jon the luck of last hook was broken as the pulled 295.70' good enough for second place. The Open FWD trucks were the fifth class of the night. Pop Tart Monkey was first and Jerrett Curtis took advantage with a pass of 290.85'. Would it hold up? Jerrett watched as seven other competitors tried to knock him off the top. Randy McConnell took Yellow Fever and came up two feet short at 288.85'. Nathan Replogle gave his best effort with Let-R-Rip and finished at 286.12'. The rest of the class had tried but failed to knock him off. But, last hook went to Clint Gregory with the turbocharged Thunderstruck. Clint made good power but fell in the back of the pack and rookie Open FWD puller Jerrett Curtis got his first victory. The 8,000# Super Stocks hit the track and Larry Phillips had the first hook. Larry piloted the IH 1066 out to 307.00' and would wait for his fate. John Orndorff had Stormy steaming down the track and into third place with a run of 296.69'. Last year's points champ, Russell Davenport, had a wild ride and ended up leaving some of the parts on the track. Brandon Hunt and Ryan Henley made strong passes with distances of 294.78 & 294.69 respectively. Chris Blackburn was in the driver's seat of Blue Blazes and called on the big blue tractor. Blue Blazes responded with a wheel standing full pull and the victory. The 10,000# Pro Stock were the last class of the evening. The class was a little short on equipment as we still have pullers that are working in the fields. But, it was still a great class. Russ Freeze and Dave Gambill stepped it up and jumped in from the super farm class to make it interesting. Russ and Deere Traxx finished in third with a pass of 260.07'. Michael Fanning and his IH 3688 called Bad Habit finished in second with a pass of 311.02'. Brad Moss took the victory as part of the Young Buck pulling team with a pull of 319.70'. Congratulation to all the winners from Springfield. Full results can be found on our website under the schedule section. I hope to see everyone at the Western Kentucky State Fair in Hopkinsville! The opening must be 3.750 inches long and 3 inches wide. The drawbar hole was increased 4 years ago but some of you haven't changed the size of the drawbar opening. This wasn't a problem until this season when the hook on the sled was increased to match the opening. If you come to the line and we can't hook your vehicle to the sled you will not be able to make a run until you have the proper size hole. This is your responsibility, if there is a cutting torch on the grounds you can drop 6 positions but not any lower than that by NTPA rules. If there's no torch, you will not be able to pull at all.
