MISCELLANEOUS PERFORMANCE
Laurte’s flrtvet Column
Greetings, Eanhtings! Hope you alt had a frog-tastic hohdaq season. (It is weird.
wnting this since I am starring this coLumn eaittj and Thanksgiving hasn’t even happened.
yet.) Anywa.y, aren’t tjou qiad that this issue of “The Rag” arrLvect in time to Liven up the
“mi%-wiater-after- the-hoU1ays bI.ues?” I aLways find that the time between New Year’s
Day and MemoriaL Day absolutely CRAWLS by. And speaking of crawLing...
I just serL.t our ilLustrious alt-knowing, alt-seei.nq Editor, Kay F., (Kay here Very
good you’re beginning to make up for some of your earlier /ibe/ous remarks) cm
article I cut from the paper (a feat in and out Use/f? Or was that “FEET?”) about “My
a
Pet Slug.” Seems this guy in Oregon or Washington (Sc’mswiwre up that-a-way
friend of Linda. or Daphnes, pethaps7) (It’s Washington...) manufactures fake slugs that
you. can buy for $1 9.95. (You get four slugs per box.) (You can a/so buy them s/ng/y, too,
at shops like “The Emera/d Fox,” in Seatt/e, just up from the Westm Hotel.)
According to the article, “These [ifeWQe slug replicas ei’en have sets of rubbery antennae
(Guarnnteed. for 2,000 flicks) and a glossy lacquer sheen...sure to provoke shriek’s of
aurpdse and astonishment wherever you graze theirL. (Like, perhaps, on your desk or
f//es at work.) ‘It’s very lifelike,’ says Sporting Edge’s Scott Mc Credit. ‘You can realty fake
people out. They even have this Little what caudat mucous plug.’ No cheap facsimile,
this. My Pet Slug is the finest alt-cedar slug replica money can buy.” (They even have the
“Giant—s/zed” version, that runs about a foot long, a/though most of the ones / see
are only about S Thches.)
The article goes on to specuLate on why the sItup are suck a popular gag item. and.
they suggest that “sporadic Latex-vomit availabiLity” may be a key factor. (Of course,
Washington State has a thriving /ndustry making fun of its ever—present s/ag
/
population. toes th/s sound like the voice of exper/ence ta/king? It should
happen to own a My Pet S/ug? / was qu/te offended when Laurie sent me this
ad ide, saying “Can you be//eve this??” We//. as a matter of fact, / can? So can the
majority of peop/e in my office? You see, our home office is located in downtown
Seatt/e, WA, and it is the custom for anyone who visits to bring back a Pet Slug to
Phi/fr. So, when (was there in October, (shopped around for one
mine, of course
does not st /ie there, s/ug—/ike. M/NE is far more talented than that? /f I can get
a p/c done in time, I’ll include it...)
I had a pet slug once. I was Living in the dorrri. at Cat Poly and pets weren’t allowed..
(How did your roommate explain you then??) A friend, of mine saw how much I missed.
having a pet and brought me 5” (I’M NOT EXAGGERATING) long 51.14g. I named. him “Siuggo”
(Brilliant...) and he ate Lettuce a.M crawled about his industriaL-size pickle-jar, making
happy-slug-slime-trails up and down the sides. This story ends on a sad note, however.
One morning I went to admin.ister Sluggo’s morning meat and found that he had. decided
to go nUdnigFLt )acuzzi-ing in his water pan and had (*SOB) drowned.. (Pethaps he
slipped.?) Anyway, he was ceremoniously interred, in the Cat Polti rose gfdn. I have had
other wierd. pets. But I wilt save telling you about them for another time. Has anyone else
