2007 Haak Winery Concours
Two tours were given of the winery especially for the participants of LSRPCA and we learned that all of Haak’s wine is made exclusively of Texas finest grape crops from around the state. This year was an unfavorable growing year with too much rain in some areas and hailstorms in other parts of the state. For those connoisseurs of vintage out there who turn your noses up at anything other than a pricey French bottle or a California Napa or Sonoma bouquet, you really should try the Haak wine. It is a very good wine. It was a cold and stormy night. No. It was a warm and stormy day. Yeah, that’s it. That accurately describes the Concours d’Elegance held at the Haak Winery on Oct. 7. Although the weather was mostly un-cooperative, a great time was had by the approximately 40 concours enthusiasts, who brought out 20 fine examples of Stuttgart’s excellent machinery. Even though it rained, stopped, rained, stopped again, rained (you get the idea) we still managed to have a great time eating the Haak Winery’s best German cuisine, drinking their wine and beer, and listening to the great musik from the German band. 16 For those of you who could not make the event, I hope to see you soon at another concours event! The rain meant that the exteriors of the cars were mildly judged. Burnell Curtis, LSRPCA President, suggested that perhaps the exteriors could be judged based on how well the rain beaded on the exteriors! I don’t think the judges took his advice however. Sylvia Lanz, our faithful Chairperson, awarded trophies for places 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, as well as Best of Show. A special award was given to Howard Fender for the farthest traveled—all the way from College Station in the rain! We had many first time participants and it was good to see some old faces (as in familiar, not as in aged) again as well.
