AJANDA 6 DQ İSTANBUL TASARIM BİENALİ ISTANBUL DESIGN BIENNIAL The first Istanbul Design Biennial, which aims to emphasize the positive effect of design on production, economic growth, social and cultural development, cultural interaction and the life quality of individuals, will be held in Istanbul between October 13-December 12. Held by İKSV, the biennial is curated by Emre Arolat and Joseph Grima, and it embarks on its path with the belief that the different viewpoints from Istanbul and the surrounding geography will enrich the global design discourse. The biennial seeks to secure Istanbul’s participation through innovative and creative works that have become mobilized recently. The theme of the first Istanbul Design Biennial is Imperfection. As a theme, imperfection both praises Istanbul’s different creative potential and supports a wider outlook on design in today’s world. One of the two main exhibitions of the biennial, Musibet will take place at İstanbul Modern, while Adhokrasi will take place at Galata Private Greek Elementary School. October 13 – December 12 At various venues Tasarımın üretime, ekonomik kalkınmaya, sosyal ve toplumsal gelişime, kültürel etkileşime ve bireylerin yaşam kalitesine olumlu etkisini vurgulamayı hedefleyen İstanbul Tasarım Bienali’nin ilki 13 Ekim – 12 Aralık tarihleri arasında İstanbul’da gerçekleştirilecek. Geçtiğimiz yıl Temmuz ayında SALT Beyoğlu’nda ‘Superstructure (The Ammunition of the Nation)’ adlı müthiş bir performansa imza atmıştı Khan. Bu yıl ise dOCUMENTA (13)’e katılan sanatçılardan biri olarak yine gözler üzerindeydi. Şimdi ise İstanbul, SALT Beyoğlu sayesinde Khan’ın uluslararası platformda bugüne kadar gerçekleştirdiği ilk kapsamlı retrospektifine ev sahipliği yapıyor. Kahire’de yaşayan ve 90’ların sonunda işleri sanat kurumları tarafından sergilenmeye başlamadan önce underground sanat ve müzik ortamında üretimler yapmış bir sanatçı, müzisyen ve yazar olan Hassan Khan, daha çok deneysel müzik ve video alanlarında yaptığı işlerle tanınıyor ve öncü sayılıyor. İşlerinde kendine has bir biçimsel dil oluşturan Khan, video, dijital animasyon, heykel, yazı, fotoğraf, ses, performans dokümantasyonu ve enstalasyon gibi mecralar üzerinden çok katmanlı bir üretim anlayışına sahip. Khan’ın SALT Beyoğlu’ndaki sergisi 1990-2012 tarih aralığında Khan’ın daha önce sadece Mısır’da gösterilmiş ya da hiç gösterilmemiş işlerini bir araya getiriyor. Yılın ilk döneminin en önemli sergilerinden biri bu, bizden söylemesi. 21 Eylül - 6 Ocak Salt Beyoğlu DISCOVER HASSAN KHAN AT SALT It’s impossible not to enter the field of gravity of Hassan Khan, which has been growing and mesmerizing since the early 90’s. Last year in July, Khan put on an incredible performance called “Superstructure (The Ammunition of the Nation)” at SALT Beyoğlu. This year, he was once again on the forefront as one of the artists who participated in dOCUMENTA (13). Now Istanbul, thanks to SALT Beyoğlu, hosts the first comprehensive retrospective that Khan’s put on to date in an international platform. The artist, musician and writer lives in Cairo and produced works in the underground art and music scenes before his works began to be exhibited by art institutions at the end of the 90’s. He’s better known for his works in the fields of experimental music and video, and he’s considered a pioneer. Khan creates an authentic visual language in his works, and he has a multi-layered approach to production with channels like video, digital animation, sculpture, writing, photography, sound, performance documentation and installation. Khan’s exhibition at SALT Beyoğlu brings together works from 1990-2012 that were only displayed in Egypt previously or not displayed at all. This is one of the most important exhibitions of the year’s first season; don’t say you haven’t been warned. This tournament will be one of the most important sports organizations to be held in Turkey. As a result of 52 women’s tennis tournaments held around the world, the best 8 solo tennis players and best 4 doubles teams will compete in Istanbul. The most prestigious WTA event, TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships Istanbul will come to an end with one competitor winning $4,500,000, the largest prize given in a women’s sports event. The cities that define trends, London, Paris, Milano and New York, are ready for spring/summer 2013 fashion. Are you? YAZI-BY CEYLAN ÖZGE KUNDUZ oda endüstrisinin gözbebeği, trendlerin belirleyicisi moda haftaları yıllardır modanın öncüsü kentlerde düzenleniyor ve bir sonraki sezonun öne çıkacak eğilimlerini dikte ediyor. Bazen bir hafta, bazen daha az süren moda haftaları, yeni ve genç moda tasarımcılarına ve markalara görücüye çıkma ve tanınma fırsatı sunarken yerlerini sağlamlaştırmış isimlere de başarılarını yeniden tasdik ettirme ve şov yapma şansı veriyor. Bir sonraki sezon neyin gözde olacağı kadar neyin asla el sürülmeyecek, gözden düşmüş parçalar olduğunu da bu moda haftaları belirliyor. Berlin, Singapur, Tokyo, Madrid, Toronto, Barselona ve Los Angeles gibi dünyanın birçok kentinde düzenlense de sözü geçen moda haftaları bir elin parmaklarını geçmiyor. En hatrı sayılır moda haftaları başta New York olmak üzere, Milano, Paris ve Londra’da, yani dünyanın dört moda başkentinde gerçekleştiriliyor. Haftaların sırası bile yıllardır belli. Önce New York, sonra Londra, ardından Milano ve en son da Paris… M he darling of the fashion industry and the determinant of trends, fashion weeks have been held for years in leading cities of fashion around the world to dictate the trends of the upcoming season. These fashion weeks sometimes last a week and sometimes less, giving new and young fashion designers and brands the chance to build an audience while the established icons get to reestablish their success and deliver a show. These fashion weeks determine not only what’s going to be popular in the next season but also what’s definitely not going to be in style. Even though they’re held in many cities around the world like Berlin, Singapore, Tokyo, Madrid, Toronto, Barcelona and Los Angeles, the fashion weeks we’re talking about are few enough to be counted with one hand. The most revered fashion weeks take place primarily in New York, Milan, Paris and London, or in the four fashion capitals of the world. Even the order in which the weeks are held hasn’t changed in years. First New York, then London, followed by Milan and lastly Paris... T 11 12 Moda haftaları senede iki kez gerçekleştiriliyor. Bir moda haftasının adı, bu ürünlerin dükkanlarda bulunabileceği sezonun adıyla anılıyor. Örneğin bu eylülde gerçekleşen moda haftası 2013SS (spring/summer) adıyla anılıyor. Arada bu denli bir zaman farkı bulunması boşuna değil. Kreasyonlar görücüye çıktıktan sonra mağazaların bu ürünleri sipariş etmesi, basının da bir sonraki sezona hazırlıklı olup bir ön izleme şansı bulması sağlanıyor. Fashion weeks are held twice a year. The trends of the upcoming season are determined in February and September. The fall/winter creations are put on display in February, with the spring/summer collections of the next year meeting with fashion lovers and the press in September. Each fashion week is named after the season in which these collections will be offered in stores. For instance, the fashion week this September is called 2013SS (spring/ summer). This time lapse is not accidental. After these creations meet with viewers, the stores get to order them and the press gets a preview to prepare for the next season. Moda haftalarıyla ilgili merak edilen en önemli konulardan biri tasarımcıların bir sonraki yılın trendlerini nasıl belirleyebildiği ya da öngörebildiği. Bu bir sanat olduğu kadar bilim de. One of the aspects people wonder about the most when it comes to fashion weeks is how designers can determine or predict the trends of the next year. This is just as much of a science as it is art. Expert trendsetters observe patterns in societal behavior and consumer behavior; in fact, they work diligently to do so. Moreover, they attend fairs in different disciplines (decor, industrial design, furniture design, etc.) in an attempt to view fashion trends, even if they are in different fields. Some of the more “ironic” designers, on the other hand, “feel” the trends. So the trends of the next year emerge partially out of observation and partially out of inspiration. NEW YORK NEW YORK MODA FASHION HAFTASI WEEK 1943, ilk New York Moda Haftası’nın gerçekleştiği yıl oldu. Etkinliğin tek amacı İkinci Dünya Savaşı sırasında dikkati Fransız modasından alıp Birleşik Devletler’e çekmekti. Zira savaş sebebiyle moda endüstrisinde çalışanların Paris’te bulunması ve çalışması mümkün olmuyordu. 2010’a kadar çeşitli yerlerde gerçekleştirilen moda haftası bu yıldan itibaren Lincoln Center’da gerçekleştirilmeye başladı. New York Moda Haftası 2013 ilkbahar/yaz trendlerini belirlemek için bu sene 6-13 Eylül tarihleri arasında gerçekleştiriliyor. Genellikle Londra Moda Haftası başlamadan hemen önce sona eren New York Moda Haftası’nın bir sonraki raundu ise 7-14 Şubat 2013 arasında gerçekleşecek ve bu tarihte 2013-2014 sonbahar/kış trendleri başta A.B.D. olmak üzere tüm dünya için belirlenecek. 1943 marked the first year New York Fashion Week was held. The only purpose of the event was to divert attention from French fashion during World War II to focus on the United States. Yet Bilbao isn’t all about its new identity; the city’s historic center is also very charming. Narrow streets, old churches that differ from other European architecture, pale-colored stone buildings and small squares that barely found themselves a place among all of these keep the city at a good balance between the old and the modern. Aside from that, Bilbao is also the region’s economic and shopping center with long, elegant avenues covered in trees and boutiques lined up next to each other. The trademark of Basque cuisine, tapas come to the rescue. Yet this best-known element of Spanish cuisine is called pintxos instead of tapas in its birthplace Basque; there’s no reason to insult the Basque with the Spanish version. The system is very simple and successful, when you’re standing with an empty plate in your hand in front of the pintxo that are hard to come by anywhere else in the world, lined up like pearls on a table, you might feel like a chicken in a corn maze. If you’re a fan of long tables with great variety and small portions in the meze style, you won’t want to leave the Basque region once you get a beer to go with your pintxo plate. The city with the most famous pintxo in the region is the beautiful San Sebastian (San Sebastian is already the city with the most Michelin-starred restaurants by the kilometer in the world). The tapas in the Basque region are a little different from those in the rest of the country, almost all of the tapas lined up like an open buffet on a long table inside the venues are prepared on slices of bread, and they’re dry snacks like seafood/cheese/olive oil & thyme (generally consumed with beer). You can try the best of Basque cuisine at Bar Nagusía (Calle Nagusía 4). RÖPORTAJ-INTERVI E W P I N A R M A M A K Ablanız Esra Akkaya’nın konservatuvar günlerinden gördüklerinizle oyuncu olmaya karar verdiğiniz okumuştum bir röportajınızda. Bize biraz oyunculuğa karar verme sürecinden bahseder misiniz? O süreç ablamın okuluna gide gele başladı. Kaya’yla beraber ( Sarp Akkaya’nın ikiz kardeşi) 6 yaşında Esra’nın okuluna gittiğimizde abi, abla dediğimiz insanları oyun oynarken görüyorduk ve çok mutlulardı. Biz de o hayatın içine girdikten sonra 35-40 yaşına geldiğimizde de oyun oynayabileceksek o zaman bu hayatın güzel olduğuna karar verdik. Sonra ablamın arkadaşları çalıştırdı bizi konservatuvar için. Benim için o dönem konservatuvara girebilmek çok önemliydi ve girdim. Konservatuvar döneminde gelecekle ilgili nasıl hayalleriniz vardı? Geriye dönüp baktığınızda şu anki hayatınızla parallellik gösteriyor mu? Açıkcası ben konservatuvara girerken sanata dair, tiyatroya dair büyük bir bilgiyle girmedim. Ben oyun oynamaya dair bir istekle girdim. O yüzden ben biraz şaşırdım girdikten sonra. “ E hani oyun oynayacaktık?” noktasına geldim. Çünkü orada beni işe yabancılaştıran bazı dersler vardı. Dolayısıyla dönüşen bir şey bu da; oyuncu da bu dönüşen şeyi takip etmeli ve ayak uydurabilmeli bence. Konservatuvar bu dönüşüm sürecini tamamlayamamış bir kurum. Bu yüzden samimiyetsiz buluyorum. Ama Murat Karasu ve Müşfik Kenter için bir parantez açmam gerekiyor. Müşfik Hoca bize sürekli “insan olun, insan olun” derdi. Ben 16 yaşında “Tamam da 4 sene boyunca bunu mu söyleyecek” diye düşünürken gördüm ki ben ölene kadar bunu söyleyeceğim kendime. Bence en temelde yatan şey bu. Samimi ve insan olabilmek. O yüzden Müşfik Kenter’in ve Murat Karasu’nun hakkını hiç ödeyemem. Ama onun dışında öğrendiğim şeylerin bir kısmını unutmak için çok çaba sarfettim. I once read in an interview that you decided to become an actor because of what you witnessed of your sister, Esra Akkaya’s conservatory experience. Could you tell us a bit about this decision process? That process started with trips to and from school with my older sister. When we were 6, my twin brother Kaya and I would go to Esra’s school and see her and her friends acting, but we thought they were playing games, and they were so happy. We decided that if that life meant we could play games when we were 35-40 years old, then that’s a life we’d like to have. Then my sister’s friends started preparing us for the conservatory. That period was very important for my acceptance, and I made it in. During your days at the conservatory, what sort of dreams did you have for the future? Looking back today, do you see any parallels with how your life turned out? Truthfully, when I entered the conservatory I didn’t do so with a great deal of knowledge in regards to art or theatre. I wanted to be there to play games. So I was quite surprised and confused by what I discovered. There were a number of classes that turned me away from the whole thing. I failed and had to attend summer school. By the time I’d completed my schooling, I’d reached a different understanding about acting. I think that the education system at conservatories in Turkey is both insufficient and incorrect. Why is that? Because people are organisms that change and grow because of their relationships and socialisation. Thus, acting is a constantly changing art form. Sir Laurence Olivier’s performance in Hamlet is legendary, it’s achieved classic status, but when I watch it today, I don’t feel any response to it. This, too, is a changing thing; and I think that actors have to be able to follow and adapt to these changes. Conservatories are establishments that haven’t been able to complete this period of development. That’s why I find them insincere. But I have to make an exception for Murat Karasu and Müşfik Kenter. I worked with Müşfik Kenter in a master and apprentice relationship; with Murat Karasu, my work was more technical and knowledge-based, but I learnt a lot about being a person from them. Müşfik Hoca would constantly remind us to “be a person, be a person”. As I was 16 and didn’t know any better at the time, I asked “Okay, but is he just going to repeat himself for 4 years?” but now I see that I’ll be repeating it to myself as a mantra until the day I die. I think that’s the foundation: to be sincere and to be a person. I can never repay Müşfik Kenter and Murat Karasu for what they taught me. Other than them, I spent a lot of time trying to forget many of the things I learnt. 27 Ekşi Sözlük’te sizin için yazılan 11 sayfa entry’de en kötü yorum “bir Al Pacino değil”. Sonra Stüdyo Drama Topluluğu ardından Alchera Tiyatro Topluluğu ki Kerem Deren benim hayatımda dönüm noktalarından biridir, oyunculuğa bakış açısı anlamında bana çok şey öğretmiştir. Üç oyun yaptık, sonra bu televizyon dizilerinin yoğunluğu nedeniyle ben tiyatro yapamadım. Among Ekşi Sözlük’s 11 pages of entries, the worst review I came across about you was “he’s no Al Pacino”. How do you feel about receiving so many positive comments in a place like Ekşi Sözlük, that’s known for it’s high level of criticism? Do you respond with, “of course, that’s what I deserve” or “that’s very kind of you”? Of course I think it’s very kind. Though I don’t think it’s right to compare people in our field because everyone creates their own dream world and tries to exist within that world. I have a dream world too and in that world, my concern is remaining sincere. It isn’t a competition for me, but a game, an activity. Before ‘Ezel’ and ‘Suskunlar’ came into your life, you were involved in Stüdyo Drama Theatre Company, Alchera Theatre Company and Tiyatro Adam. During this period were you motivated by the attitude that “I’ll act in whatever I want and I’ll earn money”? Well, I did earn money from the theatre, but not when we first started out. I was covering the set designs with the scholarship I received from the Education Foundation of Turkey. I’d established that theatre with Onur Bayraktar, may God rest his soul, and he would use his pocket money from home to try and keep the theatre aloft. We went backrupt. Then, after the Stüdyo Drama Company there came the Alchera Theatre Company and my life reached a crucial turning point thanks to Kerem Deren who taught me a lot in terms of my attitude to acting. I count him as my third teacher. Following that came the Tiyatro Adam period, which my friends and I formed as İstanbul and Mimar Sinan University Conservatory graduates under the supervision of Serdar Akın. We performed three plays; afterwards my intensive television schedule led me away from the theatre. Bu teklifleri kabul ederken hem dizilerin hem de karakterlerin böyle bir fenomene dönüşeceğini bekliyor muydunuz? Ben tahmin edemedim, tahmin edilebilir bir şey mi o onu da tam bilemiyorum. Orada siz ne kadar iyi ya da kötü oynarsanız oynayın senaristin hikayesine hizmet ediyorsunuz aslında. Bölge odaklı diziler, dönem dizileri, uyarlamalar... Sizce sektör Ezel gibi farklı işlere ne kadar açık? Ezel de bütün bölümlerinde reyting rekorları kırmadı. Ezel’den daha çok izlenen başka projeler de çıkmış olabilir o dönemde ama ben onların içinde olmayı tercih etmezdim. Eğer genellersek ben seyircinin değişik bir şeyden ziyade anlaşılır bir şey izlemek istediğini düşünüyorum. Halk buna hazır mı bilmiyorum ama bence zaten verilmesi gereken bu. Halka hak ettiğini vermesi gerekenler hazır mı daha önemli bir soru. Ezel gibi Suskunlar gibi işler, benim zaten para kazandıran işlerim var bir de prestij çalışmam olsun diyenlerin yaptığı işler. Ben de mümkün olduğunca o tip işlerde yer almaya çalışıyorum. O yüzden reytinglere hiç bakmam, bilmem de. Ben sadece içinde olmak istediğim projelerde olmak istiyorum. It’s thanks to the characters of Servet in ‘Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu’, and then Tefo in ‘Ezel’ that Sarp Akkaya has become a widely recognisable name. Did you know, when you accepted those roles, that those shows and characters would become so immensely popular? I couldn’t foresee it, no, and I’m not even sure that that’s something that can be predicted. You can act as well or badly as you want, but in the end you’re a slave to the screenwriter’s story. You try to bring it to life; so the development of that role rests on the tip of their pen, and in the hands of the producers. Obviously your performance has the ability to influence this as well. Ezel’s plot was unlike anything the Turkish audience had ever seen before, and so it drew a lot of interest. But it’s clear that they’ve mostly returned to the standard formulas: Region-based drama series, period dramas, adaptations... How open do you think the sector is to deviations like Ezel? It isn’t as though all of Ezel’s episodes broke ratings records. Different shows with higher ratings may have been on at the same time as Ezel, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be a part of them. If we were to generalise, I think viewers want to see things that they understand more than they want divergence. I don’t know if viewers are ready but I think it’s what they need to happen. A more important question is whether the people responsible for giving the audience what they deserve, are ready for a change. Shows like ‘Ezel’ or ‘Suskunlar’ are undertaken by people whose main objective isn’t money, but prestige and recognition. I try to be a part of projects like that as much as possible. That’s why I’ve never checked the ratings. I only want to work on projects that interest me. 30 Ezel’in ardından Suskunlar geldi. İki dizide de duygusal derinliği yüksek roller de görüyoruz sizi. Diziyi çeken yönetmen samimiyse, yazar samimiyse ve bize dair bir şeyleri bize dair bir dille söylüyorsa seyirciye de samimi geliyor. Ben samimi oynuyorsam seyircide de karşılık buluyor. Son dönemde ayrıca El Yazısı ve Labirent filmlerinde rol aldınız. Sinema filmlerinin devamı gelecek mi? Ben ilk defa uzun bir süreçte böyle bir disiplin içinde bulundum ve sinema filmi çekmek çok keyifliymiş bunu gördüm. Keşke hep sinema filmi yapsam ve hayatımı öyle kazansam. Ama ülkenin ve sektörün durumu ortada. Ancak diziler yaz tatiline girince oyuncu bulunabilen ve film çekilebilen bir ülke burası. 5-6 günde 90-110 dakikalık diziler çekilmesi bekleniyor ki bu zaten insan üstü bir şey ve dünyada bir örneği daha yok. Bizim derdimiz oyunculuk mesleğinin her türlü meslekle uyum içerisinde olabileceği You followed up ‘Ezel’ with ‘Suskunlar’. In both shows you’ve taken on roles with great emotional depth. Would it be fair to say that that’s something you’re particular about? I choose the screenwriter. If the producers, screenwriter and director interest me, then I already want to be involved in their project. I don’t need to know where it’s going to go, it’s clear where they want to take it. Since it first came on the air, ‘Suskunlar’ has gathered a devoted audience. How do you feel about the viewers’ level of enthusiasm? I think it all comes down to sincerity. If the director is sincere during filming, if the screenwriter is sincere, and writes in a language that the audience is familiar with, then it seems more sincere to them. If my acting is sincere they the audience can connect with me. You recently starred in the films ‘El Yazısı’ and ‘Labirent’. Do you have any plans to continue making films? The truth is that it’d been a significant amount of time since I’d been involved in a discipline like film, and discovered that creating for the big screen is actually a very enjoyable experience. If only I could devote all my time to films and earn a living that way. But the future is uncertain for both the country and the sector. Unfortunately in Turkey films can only be made during the summer hiatus when actors finally have time. In television, 90-110 minute episodes are filmed in 5-6 days and this, already, is an extraordinary achievement, the likes of which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Maybe if that system can achieve some normalcy, then films can start being made in the winter as well. As well as your work in television, for the past two years you’ve been a part of AKKAdemi Theatre, which you created with your siblings, Esra and Kaya. What made you decide to undertake this project? AKKAdemi was initially Esra and Kaya’s project. I heard about ve her türlü mesleğe faydalı olabileceğini anlatmak. Oyunculuk eğitiminin kendini ifade etmede büyük kolaylık sağlayacağını düşünmemiz üzerine kurs açalım dedik. Benim en büyük korkum “Bir okulumuz olsun, buradan oyuncu yetiştirelim” demek. Çünkü öyle bir şey yok. Oyuncu yetiştirmek sorumluluk isteyen bir iş; hem öyle 20-30 kişilik sınıflarda olabilecek bir şey değil hem de siz oyuncu yetiştiriyorsunuz ama ona bir iş imkanı yaratamıyorsunuz. Türkiye’nin her tarafına konservatuvar açıyorlar ama iş imkanı yok. AKKAdemi de, oyuncu yetiştiriyoruz iddiası ile değil oyunculukla kendinizi ifade etmeyi denediniz mi sorusu üzerine çıkmış bir oluşum. Bir konservatuvar mezunu olarak tiyatro sizin için ne ifade ediyor? İleride tekrar tiyatro projeleri olacak mı? Yaza doğru düşünüyorum ama bu tempoda tiyatro yapmak olanaksız. Dizi ne zaman ki belli bir sisteme oturur o zaman tiyatro yapmak istiyorum. Çünkü tek bildiğim şey 3 senedir tiyatro yapmıyorum bu beni üzüyor, beni mutsuz ediyor. Türkiye’deki yoğun set koşullarından fırsat bulup arada ufak seyahat kaçamaklarınız oluyor mu? Yazın sezon tatil olduğu zaman ancak fırsatımız oluyor. Ben İzmir’i çok seviyorum, Çeşme’yi çok seviyorum. Orada dinlenebiliyorum. Bir de Ege’de bazı sessiz sakin koylar var; orada kafa dinlemeyi seviyorum. Peki Sarp Akkaya setten çıktığında nasıl bir adam olur, neler yapar? Setten çıktığımda aslında yorgunluktan bayılmış oluyorum. Daha arabada uyumaya başlıyorum, eve gidince de devam ediyorum. Onun dışında 10-12 kişilik bir arkadaş grubum var. Bunların bir kısmı 4 yaşından beri arkadaşım ve hiçbiri oyuncu değil. Onlarla vakit geçirmek beni çok dinlendiriyor. Hiç vazgeçemeyeceğim kişiler onlar benim için. Eskiden bir Kamil Abi’m vardı; sahilde Amatör Balıkçılar Derneği’nde oraya giderdim. Sonra sağ olsun belediye yıktı orayı. Gayet üzgünüz onu da söylemem gerek. Denize, suya bakmak beni çok rahatlatıyor. Zaten başka da bir şey yapacak vaktim kalmıyor. it from them and was excited about their plans. What I found so interesting about it wasn’t the idea that we’d open a course or school and train actors, our aim was to convey the idea that acting, as a profession, could co-exist harmoniously with other disciplines and be useful for other professions. We decided to start this course because of our collective belief that acting instruction can greatly assist selfexpression. My biggest fear was that we’d say “let’s have a school and train actors”. Because that isn’t what this is. Training actors is a job that requires a lot of responsibility; neither is it suitable in a class of 20-30 people, nor can you create employment opportunities for them after their training is complete. Conservatories are opening all over Turkey but there are no job opportunities. AKKAdemi was not founded on the idea that we would train actors, but on the question of being able to express ourselves through acting. As a conservatory graduate, what does theatre mean to you? Do you see a return to theatre projects in your future? I’ve been considering it for the summer but at this tempo it’s unlikely. Whenever drama series manage to establish a consistent system, then I want to do some theatre. All I know is that I haven’t been involved in theatre in three years and I’m not happy about it. With the intense conditions on set in Turkey, do you ever find time for short getaways? We only have time during the summer hiatus. I love İzmir and Çeşme. I find it very easy to unwind there. There are also a number of quiet coves in the Aegean where I enjoy relaxing. What kind of man is Sarp Akkaya when he isn’t on set, what does he like to do? By the time I leave the set I tend to be completely exhausted. I fall asleep in the car and just keep sleeping when I get home. Socially, I have a group of 10-12 friends, some of which I’ve known since I was 4 years old and aren’t actors themselves. I find it very restful to spend time with them. They’re people I won’t ever turn my back on. I used to have a friend, Kamil Abi, who I’d meet at the seaside because we were both members of the Amateur Fishermen’s Association. Then the council went and knocked it down. We’re all rather upset about it. Looking out over the sea relaxes me immensely. That’s it, really; I don’t have time to do anything else. That’s why I find them insincere. But I have to make an exception for Murat Karasu and Müşfik Kenter. Just as in almost all Ottoman recipes, vinegar, saffron and eggs are used together in this soup, as well. Curd Cheese Salad with Pistachios & Mastabe & Circassian Fresh Bean Salad (15th-19th c.) Buğdaylı Balık Çorbası (18.yy) Buğdaylı balık çorbası 1700’lü yıllarda yapılan, çok emek isteyen, bolca tabak kirlettiren bir tariftir. Bu çorbanın terbiyesi ayrı, suyu ayrı, içindeki malzemeleri ayrı yerlerde hazırlanır ve pişirilir. Osmanlı’nın hemen hemen tüm tariflerinde olduğu gibi bunda da sirke, safran ve yumurta bir arada kullanılıyor. Fıstıklı Lor Salatası & Mastabe & Fasulyeli Çerkez Salatası (15-19.yy) Osmanlı’daki aşırı salatalık tüketimine şaşıran Batılı seyyahlar, annelerin acıkıp ağlayan çocukları susturmak için ellerine salatalık tutuşturduklarını anlatırlar. Salatalıkla süslenen Fıstıklı Lor Salatası bu yüzden menüde kendine yer buluyor. Diğer bir meze türümüz olan Mastabe de 15. yüzyılda sultanların sofrasından eksik olmazmış. Fatih döneminin muhasebe defterlerinde gün aşırı olarak Mastabe-i Hassa için yoğurt ve pazı alımları kayıtlıdır. Diğeri ise tarihte Fasulyeli Çerkez Salatası diye geçen fasulye salatamız. Günümüzdeki Çerkez salatasından çok farklı olan bu mezeyi ister fındıkla isterseniz cevizle hazırlayabilirsiniz. Biz sizler için fındığı tercih ettik. Mahmudiyye (15-16.yy) Kestaneli bulgur pilavı, 1473 yıllarına ait muhasebe kayıtlarına göre Has mutfakta pişen pilavların başında geliyormuş. Bu yüzden 15 ve 16. yüzyıllarda çok revaçta olan kuru meyveli ve ballı bir tarif olan Mahmudiyye orijinal tarif olan arpa şehriyeli yapmak yerine kestaneli bulgur pilavı ile servis ediliyor. Terkib-i Çeşidiyye (15.yy) Şirvani’nin tarifleri arasından alınan bu enfes yemek hem bol meyveli olması hem de misk kullanılması ile diğer tariflerden ayrılıyor. Fakat günümüzde bu yemekte misk yerine gül suyu kullanılıyor. Helva-i Hakani (15-19.yy) 1700’lü yılların ortalarında yapılan bu helvanın en büyük özelliği kaymak kullanılmasıdır. Bu yüzden Helvaların Hakanı ya da hakanlara layık helva adını almıştır. Diğer helvaları aksine burada üç çeşit un kullanılmıştır; normal un, pirinç unu ve buğday nişastası. Kaymaklı Kayısı Tatlısı (19.yy) Kaymak, 19. yüzyılda Osmanlıların çok severek tükettikleri süt ürünlerindendi. Evliya Çelebi Seyahatnamesi’nde İstanbul’da 40 tane kaymakçı dükkanı olduğunu ve en ünlü kaymağın Üsküdar’ın Beyaz Taze Kaymağı olduğunu yazmıştır. Kaymaklı kayısı tatlısı da o dönemlerin vazgeçilmezlerindendir. Western travelers who were surprised by the Ottomans’ excessive cucumber consumption tell stories about mothers who give their hungry, crying kids cucumbers to quiet them down. This is why the curd cheese salad with pistachios, topped with cucumbers, finds itself a place in the menu. One of other mezes, Mastabe, was a staple on sultans’ tables in the 15th century. Accounting notebooks that date back to the Fatih era record daily purchases of yogurt and Swiss chard for Mastabe-i Hassa. Another flavor is the bean salad that’s known in history as the Circassian Salad with Beans. This meze is very different from the current Circassian salad, and you can prepare it either with hazelnuts or walnuts. We’ve preferred the hazelnuts for you. Mahmudiyye (15th-16th c.) According to accounting records from 1473, cracked wheat and chestnut pilaf was one of the most frequently cooked rice recipes in the Has kitchen. That’s why the Mahmudiyye, a very popular recipe from the 15th and 16th century that includes dried fruits and honey, is served with cracked wheat and chestnut pilaf instead of the original recipe, which calls for orzo rice. Terkib-i Çeşidiyye (15th c.) Gathered from among Şirvani’s recipes, this delicious meal is unique in that it uses lots of fruits as well as a fragrant ingredient called misk. Today, the dish is made with rose water instead of misk. Helva-i Hakani (15th-19th c.) The most significant characteristic of this helva made in the mid-1700s is that it uses clotted cream. That’s why it’s known as the Ruler of Helvas or the helva that’s worthy of rulers. Unlike other helvas, this one uses three kinds of flour: regular flour, rice flour and wheat starch. Apricot Dessert with Clotted Cream (19th c.) Clotted cream was a dairy product that Ottomans consumed fondly in the 19th century. In his book of travels called ‘Seyahatname’, Evliya Çelebi wrote that there were 40 clotted cream shops in Istanbul and that the most famous one was the fresh white clotted cream from Üsküdar. Apricot dessert with clotted cream was another essential flavor of the time. 33 34 Buğdaylı Balık Çorbası (6 kişilik) Fish Soup with Wheat (serves 6) Malzemeler: 200 gr. buğday, 1.5 kg. Levrek, 300 gr. soğan, 1 demet maydanoz, 1 demet nane, 90 gr. tereyağ, 60 mlt. sirke, 50 gr. buğday nişastası, 3 adet yumurta, 200 gr. limon, 2 gr. safran, 10 gr. tuz Ingredients: 200 gr. wheat, 1.5 kg. sea bass, 300 gr. onion, 1 bunch parsley, 1 bunch mint, 90 gr. butter, 60 ml. vinegar, 50 gr. wheat starch, 3 eggs, 200 gr. lemon, 2 gr. saffron, 10 gr. salt Yapılışı: Bir gün önceden buğday ıslatılır. Ayrı bir kapta safran ve sirke 3 saat dinlendirilir. Buğday 5 bardak su ile kaynatılıp piştikten sonra süzülür. Balıklar temizleyip tuzlanır. Soğanlar kalın halka şeklinde doğranır. Maydanoz ve nane kabaca doğranır. Tencerede tereyağı eritilir. Soğanlar kavurulup sonra nane ve maydanoz eklenip kavurulur. Altı bardak su ve iki fincan sirke ilave edilip kaynatılır. Hazırlanan bu su başka bir tencereye süzülür ve balıklar kısık ateşte kaynatılır. Balıklar çıkartılıp etleri ayırılır. Balık suyu yeniden süzülüp temiz bir tencereye konur. Kaynamaya başlayınca buğdaylar ilave edilir. Bir iki taşım kaynadıktan sonra sonra kısık ateşe alınır. Ayrı bir kasede yumurta sarıları iki limonun suyuyla çırpılır. 2 kaşık nişasta eklenir. Biraz çorba ile inceltilip, safranlı sirke de ilave edilipp karıştırıldıktan sonra azar azar çorbaya yedirilir. Yoğunlaşmaya başlayınca tuzu ilave edilir. Balık parçaları servis tabağına koyulup üzerine çorba ilave edilir. İnce kıyım maydanoz ile servis edilir. Directions: Soak the barley one day in advance. Rest the saffron and vinegar in a separate container for 3 hours. Bring the wheat to a boil in 5 glasses of water and drain when cooked. Clean and salt the fish. Cut the onions in rings. Roughly chop the parsley and mint. Melt the butter in a pan. Roast the onions, then add the mint and parsley and continue to roast. Add 6 glasses of water and 2 cups of onion. Drain the juice you’ve prepared in a larger pan and boil the fish over low heat. Remove the fish and separate the boneless meat. Re-drain the fish juice into a clean pan. Once it begins to boil, add the wheat. Bring to a boil twice, and then turn down the heat to low. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the juice of two lemons. Add 2 spoons starch. Thin with some soup, then add the saffronvinegar mix and stir. Slowly incorporate into the soup. When the soup begins to thicken, add salt. Place the fish on a serving platter and add soup. Make the tarrator sauce with bread crumbs, hazelnut kernels, garlic and olive oil. Slowly add the vinegar until it reaches the consistency of paste. Chop the boiled beans and add to tarrator sauce. Curd Cheese Salad with Pistachios: Blend cucumbers and onions in a mixer. Squeeze and drain the water. Flavor with salt, lemon and olive oil. Add curd cheese and blend until it reaches the consistency of paste. Add pistachios and serve. Mastabe: Boil the stems and leaves of the Swiss chard separately. Thinly chop everything except the thick stems. Squeeze the water out and mix with strained yoghurt. Crush garlics and mix. Su azalınca biraz daha su ilave edilebilir. Ayrı bir yerde kıymaya tuz atıp yoğurulur ve küçük köfteler hazırlanır. Tencerede pişen et yumuşayınca köfteyi, kabukları soyulmuş bademi, kayısı ve erik ilave edilir. Tuzu kontrol edilip kısık ateşte 20 dk daha kaynatılır. Kayısılar yumuşayınca elmaları soyulup yarım ay şeklinde doğranır ve yemeğin üzerine döşenir. Tüm malzemeler piştikten sonra yemeğin suyunu nişasta ve gül suyu karışımı ile koyulaştırılır. Terkib-i Çeşidiyye 500 gr. lamb rump, 150 gr. minced lamb meat, 150 gr. dried apricots, 150 gr. prunes, 150 gr. almonds, 300 gr. apple, 50 gr. sour pomegranate sauce, 20 gr. honey, 10 gr. starch, 30 ml. rose water, 10 gr. salt Directions: Dane-i Saru Rest the saffron in rose water for 2 hours. Remove the almonds’ skin. Wash and drain rice, then roast in a pan with butter. Add almonds. Mix in salt, drain saffron-rose water and add to rice. Once it soaks the water, keep on low heat for 5 minutes, then rest. Terkib-i Çeşidiyye; Mix honey and sour pomegranate sauce in a glass of lukewarm milk until thoroughly blended. Roast the lamb meat, diced in small chunks, over low heat. Add the honey mixture and salt to roasted meat. Cook covered for 45 minutes on very low heat. You may add more water once the water gets soaked up. In a separate container, knead the minced meat with salt to form small rounds. Once the meat in the pot softens, add the rounds, de-skinned almonds, apricots and prunes. Check the salt level and cook for 20 more minutes over low heat. Once the apricots soften, de-skin the apples, slicing them in half-moon shapes, and place on top of the food. Once all of the ingredients are cooked, thicken the juice with starch and the rose water mixture. 37 38 Helva-i Hakani (6 Kişilik) Helva-i Hakani (serves 6) Malzemeler: 75 gr. un, 50 gr. buğday nişastası, 60 gr. pirinç unu, 300 mlt. süt, 125 gr. tereyağ, 300 gr. bal, 125 gr. badem içi, 150 gr. kaymak Ingredients: 75 gr. flour, 50 gr. wheat starch, 60 gr. rice flour, 300 ml. milk, 125 gr. butter, 300 gr. honey, 125 gr. almond kernels, 150 gr. clotted cream Yapılışı: Kabukları soyulduktan sonra bir kaç badem süsleme için ayırılıp kalanı havanda dövülür. Üç çeşit un bir kapta karıştırılır. Ayrı bir yerde süt kaynatılıp içine bal eklenir ve sıcak tutulur. Tencerede yağ eritilip, ateş söndürülür, yağ biraz soğuyunca un ilave edilir. Ateş tekrar açılır ve un tahta kaşıkla karıştırılarak kavurulur. Bademler ilave edilip kısık ateşte rengi değişene kadar kavurulur. Sonra ateş iyice kısılıp sıcak süt ve bal karışımı ilave edilir. Tahta kaşıkla iyice karıştırılır. Tencerenin ağzına bez örtülür ve kapağı kapatılıp 20 dk dinlenmeye bırakılır. Kaymak küçük parçalara bölünür ve helva henüz ılıkken üzerine atılır. Sonra karıştırılıp tercihe göre gül suyu veya tarçınla servis edilir. Directions: De-skin the almonds, setting aside a handful for decoration and beating the rest with a mortar and pestle. Blend all three types of flour in a container. In a separate saucer, boil the milk and add honey, keeping them over heat. Melt butter in a pan, then turn off the heat and add flour once the butter cools down. Turn the heat back on and roast the butter, stirring with a wooden spoon. Add the almonds and cook over low heat until they change color. Turn down the heat to low, then add the hot milk and honey mixture. Blend with a wooden spoon. Lay a piece of cloth over the pan, cover, and then rest for 20 minutes. Separate the clotted cream into small pieces and place on top of the helva while still warm. Stir and add rose water or cinnamon based on preference. Üzerine kayısı marmeladı yayılır. Şamfıstığı serpiştirilir. En üste kalan kaymağın yarısı döşenir. Beş yıl öncesine dayanan bir yazarlık hayatım var. Bu işe yemek ve gurme yazarlığıyla başladım ama yazdığım dergilerde tarifleri hep bir kurguyla verdim. Hiçbir zaman yemek isimleri ve ölçülerle bitmedi iş. Yarattığım hikâyeleri sonunda bir tarife bağladım. Bu çok sevildi. Onur Air ile bir çalışmam oldu, dört yıl Sofra dergisi için yazdım. Kurgu ile yazmaya Varan grubu ile çalışırken başlamıştım. Kurgudan kastınız nedir? Olmamış şeyleri kurgulamak. Örneğin “Lizbon’a gittiğim zaman orada bir balık gördük, hemen arkasından da şöyle bir yemek yaptık” diye verirdim tarifleri. Geri dönüşlerden bunun çok keyifli olduğunu anladık. Devil Toy Elif Güner Geveli talks about her first book Şeytan Oyuncağı. Could we get to know you a little? I was born in Istanbul in 1969. My writing career dates back five years. I started this profession as a food and gourmet writer, but in the magazines where I wrote, I always gave the recipes with a setup. It was never just about the names of the foods and measurements. I created stories and then tied them into a recipe. This was greatly appreciated. I worked with Onur Air, and I wrote for Sofra magazine for four years. I started writing fiction when I was working with Varan Group. What do you mean by fiction? To establish things that haven’t happened. For instance, I used to give recipes by saying things like, “When I went to Lisbon we saw a fish there, and right afterwards we cooked a meal like this.” We understood from feedback that this was very enjoyable. I later wrote for monthly magazines like Maison Française, Arena and other decoration magazines under the name decorative foods. For a while, I did professional food styling professionally for the international catalogs of big brands. So, I started the writing profession in an enjoyable way. Yemek yapmayı da seviyorsunuz herhalde… Çok severim ama ağır sofraları sevmem. Daha çok sürprizli sofraları severim. Kendim de öyle yapıyorum zaten. Sofra dergisi için Vodafone ile bir proje yapmıştık. Türkiye’de ilk internet üzerinden görüntülü yemek tariflerini ben yaptım. 30 gün 30 menü adı altında. Günde altı menü çekiyorduk. Bir de televizyon programları vardı. Biraz yoruldum, yemekten sıkılmadım ama yapmaktan sıkıldım açıkçası. 42 Yazarlıktan önce neler yapıyordunuz? 16 yıl işletme müdürlüğü yaptım. Klasik Otomobil Kulübü’nün ilk üyelerindenim. Hayatımda hep otomobilcilik oldu. Hatta 10-15 yıl önceki ilk dergi röportajlarımda “Türkiye’de ilk otomobil toplayan kadın” olarak anıldım. Son yaptığım iş de Klasik Otomobil Müzesi’nin işletme müdürlüğüydü. Ama kitap hep kafamda vardı. Herkes benden yemek kitabı beklerken, roman yazarak büyük bir sürpriz yaptım. You probably like cooking too... I love it, but I don’t like serious dinner tables. I prefer those with a surprise. That’s what I do anyway. We did a project with Vodafone for Sofra magazine. I was the first person in Turkey to do video recipes via the Internet. It was called 30 menus for 30 days. We shot six menus a day. There were also television programs. I got a little tired, and I was bored not by eating but by cooking, to tell you the truth. What did you do before you became a writer? I was an operating manager for 16 years. I’m one of the first members of the Classic Automobile Club. Motoring has always been in my life. In fact, in my first magazine interviews 10-15 years ago, I was named “Turkey’s first woman to collect automobiles.” The last position I held was as the operating manager for the Classic Automobile Museum. But books were always on my mind. I surprised everyone by writing a novel when people were expecting a cookbook from me. We know that you wrote your novel based on a story in a newspaper. What was this story? In 2008, when I was flipping through the newspapers one morning, I saw a story on the corner of page three. It was about an atrocity that took place in Adana. The word Facebook really got my attention. It was a much more heartbreaking version of my story. Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa are all fine, but I was really affected by the fact that a woman used Facebook to find her old lover in a place like Adana. But in the end, the woman’s husband murdered her. I started writing my book with a pen, not a computer. We were on a blue cruise when I wrote the first lines. The setup was perfect, but I didn’t have the material. I needed to feed my characters. I used that trip, and I associated my close friends with the characters in the book. I actually started very fast but I have two kids; I had to take breaks for reasons like their school and exams. When I finalized it, I understood that I did the right thing. Even though many movies like this were filmed, not many books had been written at the time. İnsanların kendi kişiliklerini saklayabilecekleri büyük bir sahne oldu internet. İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Bursa tamam da Adana gibi bir yerde, bir kadının eski sevgilisini bulmak için Facebook kullanması beni çok etkiledi. Ama sonunda kocası kadını öldürdü. Kitabımı yazmaya kalemle başladım, bilgisayarla değil. İlk satırları yazdığım sırada bir mavi yolculuktaydık. Kurgu çok güzel oturdu ama malzemem yoktu. Karakterlerimi doyurmam gerekiyordu. O seyahati kullandım, yakın dostlarımı kitaptaki karakterlerle bağdaştırdım. Aslında çok hızlı başladım ama iki çocuğum var; okulları, sınavları derken aralar verdim. Finali koyduğumda doğru bir şey yaptığımı anladım. Buna benzer çok film çekilse de çok kitap yazılmamıştı o sıralarda. Karakterlerden kısaca bahsedebilir misiniz? İki ana karakter var. Geçmişini sorgulayan bir kadın büyük gelgitler yaşayarak sonunda Facebook sayesinde aşık olduğu Ziya’ya ulaşıyor. Aradan 20 sene geçmiş, ikisi de çok güçlü noktalara gelmişler. Adam modern yaşantısına rağmen bir aşiret reisi. Kadın bir medya imparatorluğunda. Bir başka etkin karakterse, kendime en yakın bulduğum Damla. Her zaman dinlemeyi bilen, çözümler üreten, inanılmaz fedâkar ve çok dengeleyici bir karakter. Bir de ana kadın karakterin bir eşi var. Çok fazla ortaya çıkmasa da, kadının eski sevgilisini bulmak istemesinde onun da etkisi var. Yani bu biraz Adana’daki facianın büyükşehir versiyonu. Could you tell us briefly about the characters? There are two main characters. A woman who’s questioning her past experiences has many ups and downs, and in the end she contacts Ziya, whom she loves, thanks to Facebook. It’s been 20 years and both of them have reached very important positions. Despite his very modern lifestyle, the man is the head of a clan. The woman is in a media empire. Another influential character is Damla, who’s closest to me. She’s a very balancing character that always knows how to listen, comes up with solutions and is incredibly self-sacrificing. There’s also the husband of the main female character. Even though he’s not always on the foreground, he plays a part in the woman’s attempt to find her old lover. So, this is a little bit like the metropolitan version of the atrocity in Adana. Do you think that the Internet’s taken on a dangerous form? Yes. To me, technology is moving at a very frightening speed. The age has come where people are turning into androids. You can’t go anywhere without a phone. Communication is done with buttons. Even if you’re really angry at each other, you send messages instead of fighting in person. This tears people apart and makes them introverted. You can’t fight the way you want to, and people avoid eye contact. This is very dangerous. People display different identities than who they are on the Internet... Ta ki karşı karşıya gelene kadar. O zaman da işte depresyonlar başlıyor. Çalışma sisteminiz var mıdır? Aynı filmlerdeki gibi oluyormuş. Herkes yattıktan sonra, gece sakinliğinde çok hafif bir müzikle açtığım zaman makineyi çok iyi ilerliyordum. Gece telefonunuz çalmıyor, kapınız çalmıyor. Kitaptaki hikâye teknelerde, New York’ta, İstanbul’da geçiyor. Benim hedefim oydu, hedefime ulaştım. Pozitif geri dönüşler aldım. Okuyanlar kitabı çok çabuk bitirdikleni, hikâyeyle birlikte New York’a da gitmiş gibi, İstanbul’da Lacivert’te balık yemiş gibi olduklarını söyledi. Karaketerleri çok yakınımda olanlardan beslediğim için ailemden ilginç tepkiler de geldi. Ana kahramanın eşini kendi eşim zannedenler de oldu. Karakterleri çok analiz ettiğime dair bir eleştiri aldım. Kitabı “tek bir gözyaşı damlasıyla bitirdim” ya da “siz benim hayat hikayemi mi biliyordunuz” diye yorumlar geldi. Kitapla birlikte ben de konuşmaktan ziyade yazarak daha iyi anlattığımı anladım. Kitabı üslup açısından nereye koyuyorsunuz? Üslup çok eğlenceli. Çok devrik cümle kullanan bir yazar hide their own identities. Everyone takes on the identity in his fantasies. Until people come face to face. That’s when depression sets in. Do you have a working system? Turns out it’s just like it is in the movies. I got very far when I turned on the machine after everybody went to sleep, in the calm of the night with some very light music. At night your phone doesn’t go off, your doorbell doesn’t ring. But when you go to sleep at five and wake up at six to send the kids off to school, that gets hindered too of course. Really, there’s no template for this. How have your readers’ reactions been? The book is a perfect sun bed book, it turned out really fun. It’s a fast read. There’s wealth in the book. It feeds people’s fantasies. I think the poor girl-rich boy love story has had its turn. The story in the book takes place in boats, in New York, in Istanbul. That was my goal and I reached it. I received positive feedback. People who read the book said they finished it very quickly and felt as if they had been to New York or had fish at Lacivert in Istanbul. Since I fed the characters from people who were closest to me, I received very interesting reactions from my family. There were people who thought the main character’s husband was my husband. I received criticism for analyzing the characters too much. There were comments like “I finished the book with a single teardrop” or “do you know my life story?” Thanks to this book, I understood that I expressed myself better through writing than through words. In terms of style, where do you place the book? The style is very entertaining. I saw that I’m a writer who uses many inverted sentences, but my editor restrained me. It flows well. People who read it said they didn’t have to go back to the previous pages wondering, “Who is this?” It’s very funny. It makes people laugh because I wrote it in a conversational tone. That’s also the reason why people don’t get bored when reading it. We wrote the sections in New York 45 olduğumu gördüm ama editörüm beni frenledi. Çok akıcı. Okuyanlar “bu kimdi” diyerek önceki sayfalara gitme gereği duymadıklarını söyledi. Çok komik. Konuşma diliyle yazdığımdan güldürüyür. Sıkılmadan okunmasının sebebi de bu. Kitabımın ham kopyasını da ona okutmuştum. Jean-Christophe Grangé’ye bayılırım. Stephen King çok okurum. Türk yazarlardan da Osman Aysu’yu severim. Tess Gerritsen benim tarzıma hitap ediyor. Sevmediğim bir kitabı okumam, bırakırım. Felsefi, sosyal içerikli kitaplar çok sevmem. Ama son kitabına kadar okuduğum Mehmet Eroğlu vardır. Bilmediğim bir dönemi onun sayesinde öğrendim. Kendi kitabımı edebi anlamda değerlendirmek benim için daha çok erken. İkinci kitaptan sonra kendi tarzım oluşacak diyebilirim. Bu şezlong kitabını yaza denk getirdik. İkinci kitap başucu kitabı olacak. Gelelim yeni kitaba… İlki bittikten hemen sonra bunu yazmaya karar verdim. İkinci kitap kriminolojik. Yazmaya başlamadan önce İstanbul Emniyet Müdürlüğü’nün internette yer alan bütün adli tıp kayıtlarını okudum. Bu kitapta yine zenginlik var ama bu kez New York yerine Moskova var, Rus mafyası var. Aşk yine var. Kurgu tamam, karakterlerimi oturttum, Moskova’ya gideceğim. Daha kalın ve hareketli olacak. Araştırmayı tam yapmadan yazmamak lazım. She’s a family friend anyway. I had her read the rough draft of my book. I love Jean-Christophe Grangé. I read a lot of Stephen King. From Turkish writers, I like Osman Aysu. Tess Gerritsen appeals to my style. If I don’t like a book, I don’t read it; I leave it. I don’t really like philosophical books with social material. But I’ve read every last book by Mehmet Eroğlu. I learned about a period that I didn’t know thanks to him. It’s too early for me to evaluate my book in some sense. I could say that my own style will form after the second book. We had this sun bed book coincide with summer. The second book will be a bedside book. Let’s talk about the new book … I decided to write this right after the first one was finished. The second book is criminological. Before I started writing it, I read all of the forensics files on the website of the Istanbul Police Headquarters. This book also features wealth, but instead of New York, now there’s Moscow and the Russian mafia. There’s still love. The setup is complete, I’ve settled my characters, and I’ll be going to Moscow. It’ll be thicker and more action-packed. You shouldn’t write without doing full research first. The book starts out with the body of a woman washed up on the shore... Dedeman Rize distinguishes itself from the other hotels in the city through its corporate identity and traditional Dedeman hospitality. Primarily, our guest-focused approach and our effort to continually increase our quality of service make a difference. Kış aylarında da 500 kişiye kadar düğünler kapalı mekanda gerçekleşiyor. Otelimizin bölgede tercih edilme nedenlerinden birine bunu da ekleyebiliriz. What 3 things do you value the most in the hostelry industry? Why? (Or what’s essential to you?) Guest satisfaction is one of my top priorities. Since this is a concept that encompasses many things, I believe that it represents the essence of the service industry. I also believe that it’s very important to act as a team to guarantee guest satisfaction. In light of a guest-focused approach, I also care about maintaining a standard of service in order to achieve success. The Black Sea region has its own flavors. Rize cuisine is also ambitious on this front. How do you present these traditional flavors at Dedeman Rize? The first thing that comes to mind when someone says Rize is our tea. Rize is also a lucky province in terms of fish. Depending on the season, garfish, horse mackerel and whiting are on our hotel menu, with trout offered year-round. Every morning during breakfast, we serve our guests “Muhlama,” made with corn flour and kolot cheese. Another essential Rize flavor, “Rize Roast,” is a popular dish at our hotel. I invite everyone to Rize to try the delicious anchovies who’ve been “touched by snow water” in December and January and to enjoy a well brewed Rize tea. Aside from accommodation, do you host events like weddings and launches? How often? As soon as schools close in June, wedding season begins in our hotel. During the summer months, we hold countryside weddings in our seaside garden for up to 500 people. If we also use our 300-person indoor space, we can organize wedding of up to 800 people at once. In the winter months, weddings of up to 500 people take place indoors. This is another reason our hotel is preferred in the region. When it comes to meetings and launches, our hotel operates with four rooms of varying sizes. We have a main meeting room and a workshop room, as well as other meeting rooms equipped with modern technology to host various events. What attracts your guests’ attention the most about your hotel? The first thing that strikes them is the view of the hotel. When they enter the lobby, the view from the terrace balcony makes them feel as if the Black Sea is beneath their feet. Rize’de öncelikle otele 4 km mesafede yer alan Rize Kalesi’nden şehri izlemelerini öneriyoruz. Ayder yolunda yer alan Fırtına Deresi üzerindeki balıkçılarda doğal kırmızı benekli Alabalık yemelerini özellikle tavsiye ediyorum. Yazın rafting Fırtına deresinin vazgeçilmezleri arasında yer alıyor. Ayder Yaylası’nın muhteşem manzarasını da mutlaka görmeliler. Burada trekking yapacakları güzergahlar mevcut. Ayder’de belediyeye ait tesislerde termal havuzları deneyebilirler. Sonrasında otelimize 50 dakika mesafede yer alan Uzungöl gidilmesi gereken yerler arasında. Because Rize is a true nature’s heaven thanks to its plateaus, rivers and mountains. We first recommend that they watch the city from the Rize Castle, located 4 km from the hotel. I especially recommend that they eat the trout with natural red spots in the fishermen’s shops around the Storm River, located on the way to Ayder. During the summer, rafting on the Storm River is a must. They should also definitely see the incredible view from the Ayder Plateau. There are routes here where they can do trekking. They could also try the thermal spa of the facilities run by the municipality at Ayder. Uzungöl, located 50 minutes away from our hotel, is also a must-visit destination. If you want to transform your trip into an international vacation, you can also plan to visit the city of Batumi in Georgia, 1.5 hours away from our hotel. YAZI-BY GÖRKEM BEREKET Binkılıç (Saray – Kırklareli) Kırklareli’nin Saray ilçesinin Binkılıç köyü civarında birden fazla yürüyüş rotası alternatifi var. Birisi Binkılıç Deresi’ni takip ederken diğeri de derenin oradaki yolda ilerledikten sonra ormana dalıyor. Ormanda yapacağınız yürüyüş sırasında köylülere mantar toplama sırasında yardım edebilirsiniz. Karanlığa kalmamak için gidiş dönüş saatinizi ve toplam harcayacağınız vakti önceden hesaplamakta fayda var. Derenin yanından devam eden parkurdaysa yol meyve ve ıhlamur ağaçlarıyla dolu. İki saatlik bir yürüyüşün ardından derenin kaynağı olan tepenin eteklerinde piknik yapabilirsiniz. Kılıçkaya (Sakarya – Gebze) Sakarya’nın Geyve ilçesi sınırları içinde bulunan Kılıçkaya bölgesi Kapıorman Dağları’nı bir kısmını oluşturuyor. Yükseklik 1500 metre civarında ve birçok yürüyüş rotasından öne çıkan iki tanesinden birii Doğancıl köyünden başlıyor. İstanbul’a dört saat uzaklıktaki bu köye Geyve – Taraklı arasındaki Kazkıran Geçidi’nden gidiliyor. Konuksever köy halkıyla biraz vakit geçirdikten sonra sonbaharda pastel renklere bürünen ormanın içine giden patikaya girebilirsiniz. Daha sonra performansınıza göre diğer küçük patikaları takip ederek kendinize alternatif bir rota oluşturabilirsiniz. Yürüyüş sizi zorlamıyorsa sırt boyunca devam edip zirveye ulaşabilirsiniz. Buradan açık havalarda Uludağ’ı görmek mümkün. İkinci rota da yine köyden başlıyor ve zirvenin etrafından dönüyor, yine aynı yaylada sonlanıyor. Zirveye çıkmadığınız sürece her iki rota da oldukça keyifli ve yürümesi kolay. 59 Binkılıç (Saray – Kırklareli) There are two walking route alternatives around the Binkılıç village of the Saray district of Kırklareli. One of them follows the Binkılıç Creek, while the other veers into the forest after moving along the road near the creek. As you’re walking in the forest, you can help villagers pick mushrooms. It’s a good idea to calculate your departure and arrival times and the total amount of time you’ll spend before leaving so you don’t get lost in the dark. On the route that extends next to the creek, the road is full of fruit and linden trees. After a two-hour walk, you can stop for a picnic in the skirts of the hill where the creek originates. Kılıçkaya (Sakarya – Gebze) The Kılıçkaya region located in the Geyve district of Sakarya makes up part of the Kapıorman Mountains. The height is about 1,500 meters and one of the two best walking routes among many starts from the Doğancıl village. Located four hours away from Istanbul, this village is accessible through the Kazkıran Passage between Geyve and Taraklı. After spending some time with the hospitable village locals, you can start on the path that leads into the forest, which takes on pastel colors in the fall. Later, depending on your performance, you can follow the smaller paths and draw your own alternative route. If the walking doesn’t wear you out, you can continue along the shoulder and reach the top. It’s possible to see Uludağ from here in clear weather. The second route once again starts at the village, going around the apex to finish in the same valley. Bolu yönündeki çıkış kapısından başlayan bir diğer patikayı takip edip işaretleri izleyerek anıt çamı ziyaret edebilirsiniz. Yolu takip ettiğinizde manzara seyir noktasına ulaşıyorsunuz ve buradan Yedigöller’i izlemek kesinlikle muhteşem. Orman içindeki geyikler sizi korkutmasın, bu yüzden yürürken dikkatli olun. Zaman zaman çöken sis dağıldıktan sonra ortaya çıkan manzara karşısında insanın hayrete düşmemesi işten bile değil. 61 Yedigöller (Bolu) Located in the Bolu province, Yedigöller is accessible both from the center of Bolu and from the Mengen side. After following the signs for a little while, you’ll find yourself in the lap of nature. Every turn leads to a different view on the earthen path where regular vehicles can pass. You can reach all of the lakes by following the paths around them and watch the reflections in the water. You’ll see mushrooms all along the road, so don’t forget to take your camera with you. You can take another path that starts from the exit door in the Bolu direction by following the signs to visit the pine tree memorial. When you follow the road, you’ll reach the viewpoint, and it’s definitely incredible to watch Yedigöller from here. Don’t let the deer in the forest scare you, and be careful while walking. Yenice Forests (Karabük) Thanks to an effort by the Karabük Governorate, 15 walking paths, five camping routes and two bicycle routes have been marked inside the forests. Yenice Forests take on a thousand and one colors in the fall, while the variety of fauna and the endemic species make it a unique place. The Çitdere and Kavaklı areas inside it are under protection due to the ecosystem. Çitdere has badgers, hazelnuts, black pines, maple trees, sessile oaks and mountain elms, while the Kavaklı region has memorial badgers and hazelnut trees. Those who want to set up camp can stay in the forest house of the General Directorate of Forestry. You can follow many of the marked walking paths in the forest, but for those who have a limited amount of time, the best route is the one that starts out from in front of the General Directorate of Forestry Facilities. If you’re in luck and it just rained, the floor of the forest might be covered in mushrooms. It’s a good idea to open your eyes and look on the ground. It’s not at all difficult to be shocked at the view once the occasional fog clears. What’s worse is that it’s impossible to know why this happened without the help of modern technology. 15 years after the event, the world lives through the same experiences as it did right before the industrial revolution. Families live in really small rooms, and lanterns and candles are lit after the sun sets. Life has slowed down in a way and taken a sweet, livable form. Even though his interpersonal relationships are horrible, he makes up for it both in the scenario and in the viewers’ eyes with his bright intelligence and accomplishments at work. Sonbahar’ı alt üst edecekti. Hüzünlü, sarı, siyah renklerle donatılmış bu ara mevsimin yüzünü güldürmeye gidiyordu. Yeni bir hayata adım attığı koridor onu 12 saat sonra hayallerine götürecekti. Kim bilir belki Ayla da onun kurduğu bu yeni hayata dahil olmak isterdi. Büyücülerin ünlü sözü geldi aklına : “Abra Kadabra” … Arami dillerinde “Konuşurken Yaratırım” demekti bu sihirli kelimeler. Yol boyu tekrarladı: “Abra Kadabra, Abra Kadabra, Abra Kadabra….” He sat at the coffeehouse by the shore and ordered a well brewed tea. He took out his worn down cell phone and looked at the screen with hope. He hoped he’d see a message or the green light of a new life. He took a sip of the tea and inhaled smoke deep into his lungs. He then went through his smoky thoughts and looked for his dreams there. He came across one or two that he postponed and threw a sheet over and a smile appeared on his face hours later. His eyes got stuck on the bus company across the street. “What do I have to lose?” He left 2 coins in the tea dish and crossed the road. “I want a Bodrum ticket in 2 days.” “Yes sir, there’s a bus at 11.30 at night. What seat would you like?” she asked, laying the chart with the empty seats in front of him. “Let’s make it 7.” 7 was his lucky number. Maybe his luck was taking a turn. He always wanted to get into the olive business. He wanted his feet to touch the earth, to conceive of writings in a house that smells like earth with the aide of fertile olives, to impregnate the woman he loved, to lead a life that would fit any storybook in a small rustic house with kids they’d name after nature… He excitedly called his dear childhood friend Hakan, who lived in Bodrum. “I’m coming Hakan, are you available? I have things to consult you about,” he said, leaving the details for later. He spent the last 2 days packing up and trying to write a letter to Ayla. When he was waiting at the bus station, he thought about how he wasted the last couple of days of summer in this city. He was ready for fall. More than ever before, he would turn fall upside down. He was going to put a smile on the face of this gloomy, yellow and black intermediary season. The hallway where he took a step into his new life would carry him to his dreams in 12 hours. Who knows, perhaps Ayla would want to be a part of this new life that he set up. The thought of the famous magicians’ saying. “Abracadabra.” In Aramaic languages, these magical words meant “I’ll create as I speak.” He repeated it to himself throughout the journey: “Abracadabra. Abracadabra. Abracadabra…”
