The ld Getting lder! - City Dog Country Dog Training
City Dog Country Dog provides people-friendly, dog-wise, and professionally
excellent services that teach dogs to behave well in our world and provide
them with more opportunities to enjoy theirs. We offer services in two
locations: Portland, Oregon and the Central Oregon Coast.
Services include in-home training and behavior consulting, Day Training, Board
and Train, service dog training, camps, retreats and other enrichment events.
OUR MISSION is to foster healthy, happy relationships through deep understanding of human and canine nature – and we’re always exploring new
ways to do this! Check out what’s new in 2016.
The Wild Is Getting Wilder!
Dogs get us off our couches, away from our screens, and outside into
the world of nature. In 2016, we’re introducing The Wild is Calling! –
an exciting program of workshops, classes and other events that will
connect us with wild places in ourselves, teach us who our dogs
really are, and give us a deeper appreciation of the natural world. In a
sense.
Camps and Retreats
Our flagship event, the Call of the Wild Dog Camp, is taking a break this year. In a sense, Call of the Wild is
getting wilder, as we go off the map and explore possibilities. We like to keep things fresh and interesting!
Call of the Wild Dog Camp may be back in 2017, and Reactive Dog Camp and Vacation Training Retreats will
take place this year as previously.

Befriending Wildness
Night Quests
Dogs have a natural ability to explore
tiny inches or broad swaths of terrain
with their noses. In this two-day
adventure, we’ll do the same with our
cameras. We’ll watch our dogs, follow
them, and explore with our own senses
in open meadows, on forest trails and
beside waterways. We’ll hone our
photographic skills, learn more about
our dogs, ourselves, and the natural
world. And we’ll have a lot of fun in the
process.
These one-day adventure treks
through dramatic forested terrain
will include several classes on the
move: wilderness etiquette and
survival, first aid for dogs and
people, using a tracking device, scat
and track identification, and more!
We’ll follow our dogs’ noses off–trail
as we heed the call of the wild and
befriend the unknown in ourselves
and in nature.
A Night Quest is an opportunity to
sleep out with your dog on the earth, in
a back-to-basics guided adventure.
You’ll learn how to walk in wild places,
get in touch with your senses, befriend
your instincts and tame your fears.
Enjoy wilderness survival instruction,
track and scat identification, staryarns, story-telling, and more!

When: Monthly Spring-Fall, 2016. Classes forming – contact us for
information
Cost: $25 per class (one person, one dog); $225 for 10 class punch

We are very excited to announce the launch of this
new and unique certification program. Adventuring in
nature can be a wonderful experience – but it can also
be disastrous for untrained, ill-equipped dogs and
handlers, and the wildlife and habitats they encounter.
Our tri-level certification course prepares you and
your dog to head out into nature safely and skillfully,
working as a team to respect the land, wildlife, people,
dogs, and other animals you meet on your adventures.
“City dogs” have various tests of sociability and good
behavior in human environments. With this new
certification program, “country dogs” now have the
opportunity to become credentialed wilderness
companions!
Training takes place in outdoor class settings appropriate to participants’ levels of ability and fitness.
For registration contact: [email protected]
Testing assesses a dog’s responses in real-life outdoor
scenarios such as on trails or in other natural terrain, and
includes encountering other people, dogs or wildlife.
Teams have the option to test at 3 levels: Basic (on a 6 ft
leash), Intermediate (on a 30ft line) and Advanced (off
leash) Levels. Test items include: reliably coming when
called, becoming unobtrusive on cue (go behind, quiet,
down-stay on various surfaces), waiting calmly on a tether,
ignoring other trail users, wildlife and other tempting
sights, sounds, and smells.
Handlers sign a multi-item pledge to respect and protect
nature while enjoying wild places with their dogs.

Service & Healing through Nature
City Dog Country Dog is a major sponsor of A Dog’s Dream, a non-profit project that provides vacations for service
dog teams.
Service dog teams may lack access to nature due to physical challenges, financial constraints, lack of transport, and
insufficient support. A Dog’s Dream provides relaxing and restorative vacations for service dogs, rewarding them
with the chance to just be dogs in beautiful natural settings, deepening their bond with their human partners, and
building networks of support for the team on its return home.
Make a
Connection!
A Dog’s Dream
Retreat
A Dog’s Dream has
provided three vacations
so far, each to an
individual team. In 2016
we will hold our first group vacation, hosting 6-10 teams
over a three day weekend, August 12-14, in Yachats, OR.
We are seeking volunteers to be part of this project –
drivers, support staff, and more!
If you have enjoyed Call of the Wild Dog Camp in the
past, this is a great opportunity to share your skills and
experience with others who don’t have easy access to
the outdoors, and give some service dogs the time of
their lives!
Rewilding is achieved
through that most
radical of acts:
opening ourselves
to others. In essence
it is about unleashing
our hearts – Marc Bekoff
City Dog Country Dog supports dog enthusiasts to
extend our affinity with dogs to include a wider diversity
of human and nonhuman animals, and with the environment. By connecting with social initiatives like the Intertwine Alliance and the New Nature Movement we join
others who are committed to more compassionate,
empathic and positive ways of living on the earth.
Make 2016 an exciting, enriching year for your dog – please join us!
