Did You Hear the One About?
Woofstock Festivals:
Days of Peace, Music, and Drool!
Wanna get some good vibes, have a pawsitively groovy day, and make your premier pooch howl with joy? Then go to one of
hundreds of far-out Woofstock festivals taking place throughout California during this summer of canine love.
The largest doggie love-in, er, Woofstock, in North America occurs in Toronto each June; this year, over 300,000 pet owners and
their dogs attended dressed in tie dyed shirts, beads, bell bottoms and flowers in their hair. It was no drag, man. Like hundreds
of similar, albeit smaller hip Woofstock festivals, the name comes from the legendary Woodstock rock music festival held in
1969 in upstate New York.
Dig it, man! Many Woofstocks feature tail-waggin contests such as hippiest costume, best howl, pet/owner look-a-like, biggest
dog, smallest dog, and prettiest dog. Also featured are Grateful Dog walks, puppy parades, mutt struts, ruff races, and pawcake
breakfasts. Vendors are on hand with Woofstock bowtiques and the like; their participation means you don t have to lay out a
lot of bread to attend.
Beneficiaries of these groovy happenings include dog rescue groups, humane societies, dog clubs, service dog groups, police
department K-9 programs, and animal care and control organizations.
So if helping out a worthy local animal group is your thing, and enjoying a day of fun with your pooch is your bag, then get your
groove on and seek out one of these bone-a-fits for hot dawgs and cool cats! Should be a blast!
Peace and love to all!
